That turned out to be a good pairing, I was very interested to see what kind of performance we would see from a nicely optioned stockish GTO, those 64’s are supposed to be a good bit lighter than what followed. The jokes never get old, although I’ve gotten old, but I’ve yet to grow up.
Man that 442 is badass, I have a 1970 442 (non-W-30 plebian edition) with a 4 speed myself. The thing is an absolute torque monster and so much fun to drive. Even though I've been fortunate enough to drive Porsches, AMG's and other fun modern stuff nothing really compares to the experience of an old muscle car with a big block and a 4 speed.
You are on 10 in this one! It's more sophomore humor than freshman Imho! What's not to like, stats, specs, and amazing muscle cars. Nirvana for some of us, the humor is the cherry topping. "He said cherry" lol
Tough decision, older bro had a 64 Tripower Goat that I wrenched on and drove, I had a 70 W30. Both were 4 speed cars. I surely miss those days and older brother is long gone. 😒 Good race and Thumb up. 😊
Yes indeed, Oldsmobile amd Pontiac were storied automakers, that made some badass cars, these two here are prime examples. I'm an Olds guy, but love Ponchos too. Love watching all these legends of the street go at it. Back when America made real cars man!
I’m picking the 442, especially with the W30 package. Looking forward to this! ~ Chuck. EDIT: Great racing, close match-up, and hilarious! Thanks as always! 🌮 🌮
@@gearmeister Those W31 350s were awesome! The “Ram Rod” was not only an answer to higher insurance rates, but a stout performer in its own right. I am envious of your friend. Tell him congratulations.

I've got more than a little experience with GTO's from that era and it was TOUGH to get one off the line without nothing but tire smoke. Especially with the tires of the time.
Love the 442!! The GTO looks like the tri-power 4 speed car my science teacher had in his backyard in 1978. Love the orange and black so much I have a 72 W30 clone.
Not really. Maybe the 442 W-30 with the "328" cam. No power brakes or a/c available for that one and 3.91's standard. Also the "L88" style converter was standard if the TH 400 was selected. This car had a/c, which shows that it was the tamer W30 package. BTW, the 1970 GS Stage 1 was reported to be quicker/faster than the W30 in pure stock form. I have all of the old 1970 "hot rod" magazines to prove it from "back in the day". Cheers. .... Larry Rose
390 horsepower was W32 - a Tornado option - Cutlass had W31 350s. I don’t remember 455s in non 442s. Although - there were low-po versions. Highway-cruisers with 2 56 or such gears.
@@1badhaircut I think you could get the Buick Wildcat with a 455 though. Those things had tons of torque. The 1970 Wildcats are very rare (less than 24,000 made).

I had a 66 GTO that turned 13:28 104 and a 66 olds 442 was a car length behind me and passed me before the lights like I had popped a drag shoot! Got to hand it to him, he had a great car. Gold and ran out of Petersburg Va. in 1966.🦇
Back in the late 80's guy nearby had a 65 GTO with a 389 Triple, changed the internals to a 421. Thing sounded like a 2 stroke burning posi through all 4 gears. Loud and clear from well over a mile away....
What made all W-Olds engines special was that they were factory balanced and blueprinted. Olds put out a standing order in their internal parts department to hold all perfect dead-nuts spec pistons and such for their W-engines. Cost effective brilliance! That's why a non-rebuilt Olds W-engine is arguably better than a random rebuild W- Olds engine.
