That was the closest set of races that I've seen on here. Both cars looked great and were a pleasure to see on the strip.
I don’t know why this channel doesn’t have a million subs I could watch it all day two beautiful cars thanks to you and the drivers for bringing these classics out.
Great matchup! Have to say I was surprised by the Goat. I picked the LT-1 Z28 all day long. Those things were real runners and surprised a lot of guys with big blocks back in the day. Never saw a 389 GTO run this quick. Hats off to the car owner/driver.
There are some royal bobcats running 12's on this channel
@@christopherlyons8220 - Yeah, a Royal Bobcat is a whole different animal (cat😉) than this car.
@@danmyers9372 not really.......they had different packages. A recurved distributor, tweaked carbs, advanced timing aka a super tune and a few other things. They could also stuff a 421 in there for you if you wanted.....lol.
When cars are this evenly match its all on the driver ...SUCH a pleasure to watch!!
This was some of the closest racing I've seen on C & Z. I thought the Camaro would win by several car lengths, it was insanely close. The Goat was picking em up and putting em down !
I could actually hear the GTO's shifter clicks at every gear change. That was some mighty smooth shifting there driver! Sounds like he's had some practice or something. Seems like the goat made it easy too.
What a GREAT match up!! Shows why skill IS a part of drag racing.......
Great cars and great racing. Line them up 10 times, and they’d keep swapping wins. Thank you, as always.
This is by far the most even matchup I have seen on this channel and I loved every bit of it. I was rooting for the Camaro, but in the end, both of those cars are equally fantastic.
GTO vs Z28 what a race so evenly matched both running mid 13s not only are they great looking but fast as well. Great race. I could watch this kind of racing all day.
Both great cars and both drivers were really good. I think the superior aerodynamics of the Camaro was just enough...
One of the best races I’ve seen on here yet, thanks for bringing it to us, and thank you to the car owners
That was awesome. Closest races I think I've seen on the channel. Tale of the tape said it was gonna be close- really down to how well the GTO driver could shift. Loved it. i was pulling for the GTO. Thanks for posting!
My first ride ever in a musclecar was in a 65 GTO back in 1966. It had a powerglide. The car was violent, powerful, and the axle tramp was severe..
Great race. Glad both cars have the same axle ratio really Level the playing field
Camaro ran 13.58, 13.59, 13.60!!
I would love to see some 1987 Grand Nationals on here.
two even steven cars with same weights, power and rear gears. The Goat has the Royal Bobcat decals on the roof line. Whoever gets the holeshot wins! Nice close races and no redlights.
That GTO driver must have weighed about 80 - 100 lbs... Camaro driver about 200...
Nice..I had no idea The Camero in that yr was so heavy
That was a great set of races. Running neck and neck like that was super.
Very good, very close!
Love these even matches, where it comes down to the driver. I knew it would be close... just not this close.
Awesome , Close Race , Thanks C&Z
Now that's a race!
This is where the driver plays a bigger role than the car with all things being equal. I for one was a little disappointed when they dropped the DZ for 1970 in favor of the LT1. The LT is a awesome engine it's just we associated the Z28 with the 302 and a 4 speed. Also gone was the optional dealer installed cross ram induction.
The LT1 gave the Z\28 guts by adding stroke. There were 3 302's MO, MP and DZ. The MO 67,68 2 bolt main small journal crank. The MP most 68's, 4 bolt main, larger main journals still has oil filler intake. The DZ 69 adds the sexy valve covers.
Another great race! Nice matchup…so close. Both great cars.
Can hear the camaro's shift kit. Lol 👍
That's weird. I'm pretty sure I was hearing that 4 speed clicking.
Wow that was a well-matched set of cars to race. The only thing this video was missing was a couple of crude comments/jokes. :-)
That's a good running 350 to outrun that Pontiac especially since the Camaro was heavier. Neat cars and good matchup. Thanks for the vid. 👍
Its fun daily driving a 1965 GTO all summer, but mine has a fuel injected 455 under the hood. Its interesting that a basic small hydraulic (200/207@.050) cam garden variety Pontiac engine with a tri power intake can run with a 250@.050 solid lifter, aluminum manifold, Holley carbed chevy engine. Pull the 067 cam out of the Pontiac, put a 744 or 041 in it and try again. Neither of those are even close to 250@.050, the 041 is only 231/240@.050 but still factory cams from before 1970.
Ah the woulda coulda shoulda things.. Fun to think about.
A "garden variety" 11:23 to 1, tri-power, 1965 389 Pontiac engine. Yeah, those things were slow.
@@chevyblue10 Same engine as the Bonneville, all the 4 barrels had compression in the 10:1 range, it wasn't over 11:1. The 389 even had the small valves and 24 degree heads, not the 2.11 intakes, 1.77 exhaust and 14 degree inclination of the 67 and up heads.
All of the D port engines are garden variety, not the round ports that are on high performance models. Those heads all flow about the same in the same inclination group, 66 and earlier, 67 and later. The 67 to 79 D port heads all flowed within 10cfm of each other, with the 350 heads from the 74 GTO flowing the most... through small valves even.
Not much difference between the 421 head and the 389 head unless it was a 2 barrel 389, then it got the small valves. So the Bonneville/Catalina engine was the same as the GTO engine, provided it had a 4 barrel or Tri Power, because they all ran the same 067 cam and heads to match the induction, the big difference was chamber size which was how Pontiac adjusted compression ratios.
Now if you want to consider Super Duty, HO, and RA II/IV engines, they are not the garden variety engines, they are kinda hard to come by. Sorta like how the LT-1 wasn't just plopped in everything else chevy made. The 389 was the equivalent of the 300hp 327 and 350. Far more of them built and installed than LT-1s.
The Pontiacs were very mild engines, not oversized valves, 11:1, 250@.050 solid cams, and Holley carbs on aluminum intakes. Do all of that to a Pontiac and its gonna suck the headlights out of that poor little orange lump.
The Qjet intakes flowed better than the Tri Power, and we only put the Tri power on for the looks, if we want to go fast we do it with a single 4. The limiting factor was the Carter AFB used before the QJet, they were tiny and didn't flow much, so the Tri Power was a decent upgrade from the AFB. Why do ya think the Max Wedge Mopars had two AFBs on them? Same reason the 421 SD had two. They were kinda small.
The only small block that has ever impressed me is the 351C 4V. Those things are monsters. Which is why I own four of them and a bunch of parts.
Of course the 389 doesn't need as much help as the chevy, since they did go 406mph in 1960. No chevys have gone over 400 yet, have they? Two Hemis did recently, Danny Thompson did it with Hemis, his dad, Mickey, did it with Pontiac. Where are all the oh so awesome chevys setting LSR records? Also the 389s were stock heads, blocks, and cranks. Garden variety stuff with some other stuff thrown in.
I love when you do the Star wars with the cars 😂😂😂
Great racing. Great drivers!! Thank you for bringing them to us?!
That was some good racing, that camaro was really consistent both speed and time. Thank for the great video.
Because auto tranny
evenly matched....happy to see the Camaro come out on top
WOW! great race!
A really great matchup!
Thanks!
My favorite Camaros are 70 to 73 Z28 or RS I do love the split bumpers so I guess that would be an RS 👍👍👍
Boy that guy on the bike is always there
You notice that too lol
I purchased a brand new 1970 Z28 when I returned from Vietnam great car raced it a few times but I have to admit it wasn't a drag car and like others have said here a lot of this depends on the driver.
Semper Fi
My cousin Clint bought a '70 Firebird Formula 400, when he got home from Vietnam. He's 20 years older than me, but, riding in that car and other cool cars he had over the years turned me into a car guy.
I had the same 410 gear th400 in 70 Z28 the engine was 383 with 555 cam an jessel belt drive the car was fun .hugger too
Good race! Thumb up for posting it.
I love how you do your videos they're very funny informative and entertaining 👍👍👍👍👍 I know you do all the car racing I like the Chryslers when they drag race the best I never say Mopar I always say Chrysler's so I think of the corporation all the time I'm an old-timer 😂😂😂 I know you know a lot about the cars but do you know what Mopar originally stands for and still does but people don't use it like that it stands for motor parts if you didn't know continue the good work with the videos they're great 👍👍👍
I always wondered how Chrysler Corp. got the nickname Mopar. I tell folks it stands for More Power lol. I'm an old timer too, by the way.
@@chevyblue10 👍👍👍😊
Didn't know the 70 Camaro was so heavy
I have a bunch of 2nd gen Firebirds, and they aren't exactly a small car. They have some heft to them, and it got worse as the years went by.
@Your Pappy thats about what my 79 Formula weighed, the 455 didn't mind though, it went 11.40s with a really mild build and 3.42 gears.
Love it, thanks C&Z
Thanks for great video always a pleasure
Good race..
Goodday C & Z,
Hope this message finds you well considering the crazy times we are living through.
It is Sunday morning, at my favorite cafe at South Melbourne Market having a ice latte & a Portuguese Tart enjoying the serenity before going down to Port Melbourne Beach for a swim, it is Labour Day Weekend here in Melbourne so no work on Monday.
What a awesome 3 up race, plus my favorite body shaped Camaro. You forgot to mention that it was a RS optioned as well.
Same horsepower, better torque in the Poncho, but disadvantage by the
4 speed so all up even Stevens.
Love it when it is so close all 3 races.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia
Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
What's up in the Southern Hemisphere? Beautiful 70° Spring "fishin" weather here in the big city (jk) of Dublin, Georgia, USA. Just long-distance waving at ya. Have a great holiday!
@@chevyblue10
Happy Spring Fishing, beautiful weather all 3 days here, got to the beach on Sunday.
(jk) ?
Thank you for your greetings
Small Change ☺👍
Both cars ran very strong in stock form
That was a drag race! 2 great looking & performing cars.
Great match up!
Wow pretty much a get off the line first & hit the shifts & you'll get to the finish line first..
Great race cars are very close .
Great racing by both drivers. The Camaro by a you know what hair!
The kids nowadays don't know what those are.
My dad had a 1964 GTO 389 tri power 4 speed which I was apparently conceived in the back seat of.....lol. So Pontiacs were in my blood for many years......until I discovered 1986/87 Turbo Buicks. Nothing like hearing a tri power set up roaring down the road......although setting them up could be a bit tricky.
It's great to see muscle cars doing what they were meant for, Straight line dominantion
I love this channel
Close races!
Nice runs, didnt think the goat was that heavy
The comments of the LT1 75-8000 rpm forget it!! lol
Not gonna happen
Believe it or not I was hired by a CEO family friend to drive 70 Z28 from Colorado Springs my home, to Seattle Washington. I picked up the car 1 week before I graduated High School , dark green, 4 speed. Needless to say when I arrived in Seattle the Goodyear Eagles were gone, front and rear. Our CEO friend had to buy his executive a new set of tires. Posi 4.11 rear end limited my top end to 125 as I recall. I had a great highway race across eastern Washington with a 911. Pretty sure the driver was too scared to pass, I kept waiting for the Porche to zip by but he never did.
Reaction time won these races😁😁
The best engine they didn't have in this GTO. The best engine would have been the 455 high output tri power. If it was that engine we wouldn't be having the "these races are close conversations."
Never heard of that as a factory engine. Are we just making stuff up now?
I MISS THE FART SOUNDS😞😞
1970 1/2 Camaro
Any El Caminos?
Oh ya, may the best driver win.
Hey CZ, for some reason you forgot to mention that this particular GTO is a Royal Bobcat edition, or so it looks to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Why don't you guys race the same year models? It seems like you guys have it for Pontiac. How about you race the 1970 Z28 against the 1970 Trans am
even match .
The best year gto ever in my opinion .
The Z28 would rev to 7200 RPM's. If you left it in 1st, it would automatically shift into 2nd and 3rd at 7200. I know because my brother had one and I'd do that all the time while street racing. I'd beat big block cars all the time including LS6 Chevelle's only because even with the 4.10 gears the tires would only spin for 5 ft or so while the big blocks couldn't get any traction.
I'm a tad bit confused, if the Camaro ran a 13.59 how did it lose to a 13.61?
The GTO had a better MPH and probably cut a better light at the starting line.
The Z28 is one of the sexiests cars i've seen
The Z seems allittel slow ,i lived those times and street raced all of the cars from that era
13s is decent for a 70 Z
Hmmm.
I think the GTO would have been better off with 3.90 gears. Pontiacs are torque machines. A 410 gears don't really make them faster. It winds it up to fast, a higher gear will allow the torque to be used more. The LT1 has a usable recline of 7500-8000 rpm. Ponchos at 6500 rpm are done, they won't put down any hp higher than that. 3.90 gears and the GTO gets him. MHO
Those Lt1s wont make it to 7500-8k on a bet.
HELL Yea Camaro all the way
Where are the memes and farts man :(
TOILET HUMOR OR NOT ...... HAVING THE COMMENTARY JUST COMPLETES THESE VIDEOS .... NO COMMENTARY IS LIKE A MOVIE WITH NO SOUND !!!!
