What a guy ! Awesome video very informative, well presented! I enjoyed watching it
@@josecastrejon414 Thank you!!
Hi I'm going to be doing mine on Monday but I was wondering does the engine have to be on the compression stroke ?
@@AlexMaya-f3f I believe it’s the best way for an accurate adjustment. So I’d say yes.
@@threeriverswrench thank you 🙏 I've watched a bunch of videos on here and Your's is the best one made it easy to understand All the other's make it look more complicated than it is thank you again 🙏
This video doesn’t get enough credit!
@@danielharing6807 🙂Appreciate it bud!
I've got a 2005 GMC Yukon 5.3L 4x4 with 234,000 miles, all stock. It makes a clicking noise that I can usually only hear with windows down and driving next to something like a wall or tall curb. It only does it when applying gas though, and in a forward gear. I have examined the u-joints and driveshafts and they look fine and tight. It does look original. Do you think this is the issue? Thanks!
@@thesetruths1404 Definitely a possibility.
Outstanding job Brian. What an education we are all learning from your knowledge and work. Happy 4th. Take care.
@@user-zj4cb4dd1j Love the feedback!!🙏🏻
honest question.... should police cars have operable rear window and door handles....
I don’t think so. I think one of the previous owners refitted the locks and window cranks.
Ok. Talked to the experts. The door lock rods were disconnected and taped inside the door and the window cranks were removed. 👍🏻
@@threeriverswrenchwhat's going to be the scenario on this one...functional or disabled.
@@szweed Functional
it`s Great job sir 😎😎
Thanks so much Mohammad! Appreciate it!👍🏻
Great Video, thank you for sharing, I am curious however why do you opt for half a turn after 0 lash, my service manual states to go 1 full turn after 0 lash and another very common one is 3/4 turn after 0 lash is found, it seems to be quite the debate, how often do you like to adjust the valves on a stock 350? I will be doing the lash adjustment on my new to me 99 tahoe after a long list of other things and absolutely love the obs chevy Regards
I am from Iran. It is interesting to know that this car was also produced in Iran, in Iran's General Motor Company. In addition, many General Motors cars such as Buick Skylark, Cadillac Seville, Blazer, Jeep Wagoneer, etc.
Grateful 🫡
She's coming together!
Excellent work as always Brian. Top notch mechanical ability and your steps telling us what you are doing are great. Great learning video tearing a door apart and what it takes to work.
I'm restoring a 70" Nova and am now ready to install brand new diff, pinion & axles on my 8.5 10 bolt housing that I stripped down, cut off the leaf spring seats and welded 4-link brackets and repainted and now ready for all the innards. When you heated up the bearings and put them on the pinion & diff. Was that method done on both sides of the diff & pinion? And was that info in that book you mentioned? Very informational video. Thank you for making it! it explained in detail allot. I have a great understanding of doing this myself now with confidence. I will be watching this several times and most likely while I am installing all my new parts.
Yes, heated both bearings to install on the carrier, and you only have to heat the “bottom” bearing on the pinion gear.
Hey i have a new under hood insulation u can have for that project. LMK Bob it will fit its for a 77
Great! Lemme see if we need one. I’ll get back to ya!
@@threeriverswrench ok
Great work! The bodywork episode(s) will be well worth checking out too. Can't wait.
Great job Brian. Excellent detail. Your mechanical work is the best. Taking your time and doing it right.
Great videos. I really appreciate it.
Thanks for watching Damon!! Love the feedback!!
I love your videos. Always look forward to new ones. I watch all the other big you tube car channels, and honestly yours are just as good. Keep it up.
I appreciate that! I’m a big Cletus McFarland and ViceGrip Garage guy. They were my motivation to start this channel. Thanks so much for the feedback!🙏🏻
Alot of great steps in this episode, can't wait to see the engine run, but agree that the body work is key with the summer weather. Nicely done Brian!!!
How do you feel about putting a couple of coats of clear over the black, thanks in advance, Paul.
I’ve been told that works as long as it’s compatible with the interior paint you use. Guys have reached out and told me they have had great success using the clear as well. 👍🏻
Like others have commented, very informative. Before this video i was 40% confident in doing my own re-gearing. Now I'm 99% sure i can do it! Thanks for the class!
I'm curious, you did not mention if you do have the number on the pinion gear. In my case I do now what do you do when you have this number?
Paint the lower part of your car gloss black. Front bumper line over the the front wheel about 2 inches then down the body line towards the rear wheel over the wheel line to the rear bumper. Its just an idea.
Hi, I have a G80 10-bolt and a machine shop removed the pinion bearing for me. Long story short they claimed there was no shim. Does the tool you used determine the correct shim you would need?
Yes it will. Keep in mind, it’s rare, but sometimes there is no shim. Doesn’t hurt to check though. Thanks for watching!
A lot of amazing work has been done Brian! Incredible job!!
excellent 😅
This brings back memories from the 70s one older brother had a maroon 75nova with a350, another brother had a Vega that color. Love the choice of z28 rims, great job!
Love to hear it!! Thanks so much for watching!!
Great episode! The bodywork will be fun to watch. Keep it up!
Nice episode Brian. Engine and trans install was excellent. Bear taking more steps each time.
Brother this video is awesome! By far the best I have seen (and I've watched tons at this point). Thank you so much for the in depth explanation and taking the time to share your knowledge with us all. This is going to same me a TON of time and headache when I tackle this project. Keep em' comin!
So glad to hear!!Thanks for the positive feedback!! I’ll do my best!!
The speedo adapter is for the specific gear set. I had a ‘79 K15 that came with one. When I got rid of the 1/2 ton axles with 3.08 gears, I only had to remove the adapter for my 3/4 ton axles (4.10 gears) to make my speedo work correctly.
Perhaps bigger tires were installed and the gear reducer was used to compensate? Or speedometer gauge went higher than a typical vehicle .
That’s a great theory. Makes sense! Thanks!😊
Again nice job Brian and attention to detail. Learning a lot watching his videos.
Thank you!!😊
You're doing something I always thought about doing with my 4th gens, but always got lost in the "oh I'm just going to hot rod it a little" then it goes out of control. Your originality looks amazing, can't wait to see a factory correct 4th gen.
Appreciate it Gary and thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the work, I’m gearing up to do this soon, a little apprehensive, excuse the pun
👍🏻Thanks for watching!!
Mine was a 1975 9c1 that was used by the RCMP in Alberta, Canada. It had been an unmarked. No a/c due to the location. The rear doors had come from 2 other cars. The rear seat came from another car as well. The previous owner was using it as a 1/4 mile car at the Gimli, Manitoba NHRA dragstrip. Paid $150 for it in 1992.
Awesome! Do you still have it?
Awesomer, but ,put oil/grease on pinion iner bearing during final assembly, been 20yrs since ive done this so thanks for the remainder of the procedure 😊
On my old Mopar small block, I used a pair of '90 "308"-castings. Little bit of clean up, new guides, replaced all the exhaust valves, multi-angle valve job, matched the springs to the cam (it was a bit better than the stock 'broomstick' profile, but not crazy). It definitely is a bit more peppy than how it came in '76, but we built it with a specific goal & a good combo that works together. Ironically, better MPG than it had before
Awesome!!
@@threeriverswrench I think some people get entangled in the "It has to be 100% as it left the factory" or " I need to make 650 hp," whereas I want to drive & enjoy them, upgrade things within reason.
Agreed!👍🏻 What model Mopar do you have?
@@threeriverswrench '76 Valiant sedan. Has the HD cooling, certified speedo, handling package
Very cool! I had a ‘78 Fury back in the early 90’s. Only a 318, but I loved that thing.
Can you tell me the size of the torx screw that's on there? 16:35 ....Thank you so much for this video...I've been in and out the house running this back and forth doing my 78 Scottsdale Column.

Great video….I’ve been dealing with a sticky slimy steering wheel for years on my 73 LT Camaro. gonna try your method.
It definitely works! Just remember prep is everything. Thanks for watching!😊
I have a 1973 Z28, please let me know how yours turned out, thanks in advance, Paul.
You have more patients with por 15 than I do. Trying to keep a whole Dana 44 and the first 1/3 of my 78 Scottsdale frame wet for 20 min was exhausting work....let alone a whole undercarriage. Outstanding work!!
😂 Yep,that bottle sure tires your hand and wrist out! Thanks for watching!!
My 78 Scottsdale 4x4 wheel is in the tub as we speak. I also ordered the paint. Thank you so much for this advice. I had not wanted to restore this truck and not update the wheel, but now it will be completely restored and NO parts from China will be used. Thanks very much!!
Hell yeah!!👍🏻 Thanks for watching! Glad I could help!!!
Congrats great job Brian.
Thank you 😊
Did the blue reflect that GM identified the motor as a 305? Or was just coincidence? Love the original though process on the build way to Novas with headers and go fast stuff anyways lol
From what I understand, around 1977 Chevrolet switched from orange to blue regardless of engine size.🤷🏼♂️ This one’s a 350.
ok thanks@@threeriverswrench
I had a ‘77 K5 back in the day with a 400 SBC. It was blue like this.
Congratulations on hitting the 1K sub's!! I didn't skip any ads so you can get the full benefit of being monetized.🙂👍
😄Thanks Dave! Appreciate it!
I live in NC so I've never seen anybody install the smog parts back on a SBC. Interesting. We be taking that stuff off, not on. Great work as always, better than new.
Trying to keep it as original as we can!😁
I lived in California for 55 years. That equipment is like gold. Everything ‘76 and newer still has to get smogged every 2 years. I had to put all that crap on my ’85 K30 when I built it. So glad I’m in a free state now that doesn’t have testing!
