  • In this episode I clean this 350 Chevy and measure the main and rod bearings. Then do the final assembly on the crank and pistons.

Great video. Thanks a lot. I'm going to remove my engine from my 1983 Chevy K5 so it's perfect for me all these explanations. Just a simple question : why don't you change the piston rings ?

Based on what I was seeing, everything looked really good. Saved a few bucks. If the rebuild had more than 50k miles I would have replaced the rings and honed the cylinders.

@@threeriverswrench ok, mine is more than 100k miles maybe 150k... So I may replace the rings. Which type: cast, moly, plasma moly? For the honing do you have a video? Thanks.

I learned a lot, thanks. I subscribed so I will learn more. One quick question ... after using Plastigage to check the main bearing clearance, and then reinstalling the crank, and torquing to specs, would you not scrape off the used, stuck-on Plastigage (maybe with just a fingernail, to prevent the residue lodging in an oil passage somewhere?

Absolutely Dave! I should have said that in the video. Definitely remove all the plastigauge after your done and reassemble. 👍🏻
