In this episode I clean up the old heads. Lap in all the valves, and install new valve seals. We then head down to the shop and turn our short block into a long block!
Those heads look a lot different than my 243 heads....hehehe. Glad to see you use premium gaskets. I wonder if the last guy did as greasy as the engine was outside. Great work again.
I use the old hand tool method, I feel the drill method will damage the guide. Also you should clean up the ports and bowl of any obstructions, It's not that hard and the extra efficiency is well worth it.
You didn't check the valves for leakage. Fill the chamber with water a bad leak will show water leaking into the ports. Then apply compressed air into the back of each valve, any bubbles means you have to do more lapping.
On my old Mopar small block, I used a pair of '90 "308"-castings. Little bit of clean up, new guides, replaced all the exhaust valves, multi-angle valve job, matched the springs to the cam (it was a bit better than the stock 'broomstick' profile, but not crazy). It definitely is a bit more peppy than how it came in '76, but we built it with a specific goal & a good combo that works together. Ironically, better MPG than it had before
@@threeriverswrench I think some people get entangled in the "It has to be 100% as it left the factory" or " I need to make 650 hp," whereas I want to drive & enjoy them, upgrade things within reason.
Love your channel, man!
😁👍🏻

Agreed!👍🏻 What model Mopar do you have?

Very cool! I had a ‘78 Fury back in the early 90’s. Only a 318, but I loved that thing.
