Grandstand clips (8/11/86)
Roland Ratzenberger and Philippe Favre battle it out for the chequered flag in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, the horse racing results are in, Great Britain's rugby league team have been stuffed by Australia and coach Maurice Bamford has some explaining to do, we go round the football grounds as we near full-time, and then it's over to the Vidiprinter as Steve Rider gives us the final scores - all from Saturday, 8th November, 1986's Grandstand.
That Ratzenberger vs Favre duel is really something, and, without spoiling the outcome, the eventual winner takes it by no more than half a car length. Also fighting for position are British drivers Steve Robertson and Pete Rogers, the latter of whom was sadly killed during a race less than a year on from this.
Meanwhile, in the football, the two Manchester clubs are unbelievably rubbish. City register a victory, but it's only their second since February (we're in November, remember), and United take an embarrassing beating in their new manager's first match in charge away to Oxford. He'll obviously never amount to anything.
Huge thanks to Ben for providing this recording.

Roland Ratzenberger vs Roland Rat: The Race of the Century (1985)
zhlédnutí 188Před 5 hodinami
It was on this weekend 30 years ago (at the time of writing) that the catastrophic events of Imola changed Formula One forever. The great Ayrton Senna was killed during the race itself, and being a three-time champion meant that the tragedy the day before was overshadowed. The death of Roland Ratzenberger during qualifying has sadly become something of a footnote, or even the answer to a morbid...

The quality and randomness I again apologize for, but at least everyone is enjoying these. :) Yeah, we do have Uno still here in the UK, the regular one and a few variants. 2002 obviously was a year that they tried getting kids to be part of it by contacting them, having their opinions be on teh show etc. it was a campaign they seem to have taken very seriously. McDonald's UK sure saved money on that Monsters Inc. Happy Meal ad, as they simply took most of an NTSC American ad (done by Pixar themselves) and just added a British narrator, exclusive text and an end image, they certainly wanted to get their monies worth from using them to create the ad I'm sure and they must have done, as it would have been used in many more countries around the world. Ah yes that Walkers ad.....Erm moving on. :D DFS, they should just basically have their 4 years interest free credit and nothing to pay for the first-year thing a permanent part of their store. But what can you do? :D

No problem with the quality, and randomness is good! Thanks as always for the tape - I love these ones that show exactly what the era was like. All that texting and e-mailing in is a far cry from what it was like when CITV first went live back in 1987! And seeing which films were big at the time and whether they're held in high regard now (Monsters Inc passes that test) is always interesting.

@@VideotapeFTW Of course it would, it's a Disney/Pixar film, they usually for the most part do standup well. :) I'm glad you're enjoying the content too, despite the randomness. I do recall going on to the CITV website back in the day. I never imagined that one day I would be talking about the old CITV website. :D

That was all that's on the tape I'm afraid. The aspect ratio depends on what TV you had and if it could support widescreen or not. If they are black bars, then it supports 14:9, if it didn't, then it's a 4:3 broadcast.

As an Ethiopian I was of course rooting for Cameroon I remember watching the first match where a 9 man team beat Maradonna's Argentina with a goal from an amazing leaping header from Oman Biyik. I cried of course when Cameroon just barely lost to England. Interestingly enough, a year later my dad got posted to Cameroon and we moved there. I was so excited cause it was the land of Roger Milla, Makanaky and all those great Cameroonian players. So many great memories, when life was so much more vivid.

Fox Kids doing NO research into the rangers at all. Having a mysterious Gold Ranger and then the guy who would become the Gold Ranger being next in the countdown (That would be Jason played by Austin St. John, recently being investigated for a COVID charity scam but nothing has been proven yet as far as I'm aware of his involvement, just allegations). If I knew you had this and were going to upload it, I wonder if there was any way to blur Wild Force Red Ranger Cole's face (Ricardo Medina Jr. ). It's just what he deserves after the actor murdered his roommate and served a jail sentence because of it. I wish I was making that up, but I'm not. :( And right after is Tommy, R.I.P. Jason David Frank. And of course he's listed TWICE! Then there's Pua Magasiva (Shane the Ninja Storm Red Ranger), who like JDF, committed suicide. 'sighs' It's 'Dana', not 'Donna', you Fox Kids cockney idiot! In fact, Fox Kids were idiot's period! The evolution to Jetix by Disney was probably a God send. I was actually surprised to see a recycled Coco Pops high diving ad seen again with a 2001 copyright date by Kellogg's. :) The Honey B's ad would have had Disney animators working on it for sure. :) I wouldn't be surprised if that Irn Bru ad with the baby in it did get MANY complaints. :D Ah the irony of having 'Zoids' advertised on a show which has mecha in it called 'zords'. LOL. :D McDonald's playing the field there with a dual Hasbro/Bandai promotion. :) Yeah that Legend of Zelda ad was epic with the use of Mozart's Dies Irae in there. :) Yep, this would be before teh may half-term, plus that June 2nd release date for the Ultimate Rangers DVD and Video helps confirm it. 0:30 - That Simpsons clip was from the Series 3 episode 'Flaming Moe's' which I have it on a DVD set and on a VHS compilation, 'The Simpsons Go To Hollywood'. This was ITV Digital's last ditched attempt of a barker channel promo to attract more subscribers of this DTT service, they signed a deal with the Premier League on a £315 million deal, but Carlton and Granada, the same ones that homogenised ITV couldn't afford it all, so their football deal ultimately murdered off ITV Digital

The cellar concerts were legendary. Nice memories!! Nice people!!
