  • Cock-ups abound as Denis Norden treats us to out-takes from around the world, featuring such diverse luminaries as Peter Sellers, Paul Merton, Bob Mills, Gary Lineker, some horses, and a pope. Originally broadcast in 1997, this recording seems to come from Saturday, 17th March, 2001 - though I'm willing to be corrected on that - and unless I blinked, it's been edited down from its original running length. (Or did I miss a break in the recording?)
Contains naughty bits, it should be mentioned, but nothing worthy of an 18+ rating. By the way, note the unexpected incidental Stephen Mulhern at 35.27, who'd have been unknown on original broadcast but a regular CITV presenter by the time of the repeat.

Dang! The 5th element had it's tv premiere in 97.

This was not 1997. The program was made in 97, but this was a repeat airing from 2001.

I guess someone at ITV was feeling nostalgic and wanted a 1997 themed evening? :D

I used to like watching, it'll be alright on the night.
Did Johnathan Ross take over this show, or am i imagining it?

I think it was Griff Rhys Jones who took over from Denis Norden.

@@VideotapeFTW oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Not sure why I thought it was wossy.

Griff Rhys Jones took over, then after him David Walliams presented it in voiceover.

The program was made in 1997, HOWEVER, this airing was a repeat from 2001, you can easily tell by the LWT logo and that British Airways advert toward the end.

Can we stretch as far as March 2001? That's what the surrounding things on the tape suggest.

You edited that. ;-) Thanks for the tape, by the way.

@@VideotapeFTW Yeah I'd say around Feb/March 01 was likely when this repeat was broadcasted.

@@VideotapeFTW Yeah, I should have watched the two ad breaks first before I commented whoops. But luckily I saw that BA ad and saw that promotion which closed in the timeline a lot better then I did. Though I knew that music for the LWT ident did change slightly, likely around the start of 2001. It was actually the ident that made me think 'wait, was it really 2000 or 2001'. Again, whoops. :D As always you're very welcome and thanks again for uploading this. :)

Or @0:42 where it literally says "Source: ICM Research 2001" during the advert for the Observer newspaper.
