Peter Serafinowicz’s dead pan ‘that’s none of your business’ bit and then his commitment to the abdicates skit remains one of the best cats does countdown moments
Always like the Morrissey biography too
And was brilliantly sprinkled through the whole video perfectly 😊
@ConfidentClownXx He's a bit of a tw*t really - he was implying that Jimmy should leave the program due to the media story that Jimmy was involved with at the time. The same sort of thing happened with Angus Deayton on HIGNFY, but Angus did actually leave.
@@RangieNZwhy does that make Serafinowicz a t*at?
@@RangieNZat the time? The episode was filmed in 2014, Carr was exposed by The Times in 2012 for only paying 1% tax on 3.3m earnings. It was very old news by the time Pete went on the show, he’s clearly not referencing a two year old story
Remember, if anyone ever asks you if you’re a fan of word games, do tell them that you don’t think it’s any of their business
It should be put on a shirt that from the opening clip. Absolute 10/10 delivery. Kinda breaks Jimmy.
Are you a fan of word games?
@@martybhoy72 is it any of your business?
It is now a mandatory response
I don't think what I tell people who ask me if I'm a fan of word games is any of your business.
A torturous attempt at humour, admittedly, but an attempt, no less. 😅
Hennins “you got four eyes” line was delivered just perfectly
A super-quick idiomatic joke in a second language - that's so smart!
@@zantas-handleIt's 'Henning'. And please don't use the word 'idiomatic' if you can't refrain from accidentally falling into a tautology. :)
@@sysum9459 That's a very strange message from you, correcting my spelling of 'Henning' when I didn't use his name at all. Did you get confused? And where's the 'tautology' my friend? I'm not English so I'm happy to learn, but I wonder if you're confused about that too.
@@zantas-handle No tautology in your original statement, since there aren´t any redundant terms. Obsessively pedantic. Is a great example of a tautology.
@@sysum9459 Is there any way I can give you a down vote more than once? I'd say 9 or 10 would be about right.
Susie’s gasp just makes it funnier, the actual disbelief that Lee got a nine letter word, brilliant!
The first thing about Lee Mack is that he is both highly intelligent and a super quick thinker, making him perfect for this sort of game. The second thing about Lee Mack is that he hides his abilities behind his "I'm a typical thick northerner" persona. Sue Dent was obviously taken in by that persona, and fair enough because he is after all (and this is the third thing about Lee Mack) a good actor. So if you haven't watched "Would I Lie to You?" as much as I have, how could you know about the first thing about Lee Mack? :)
@@84homeyYou nearly quoted Victoria Coren Mitchell word for word there.
@@84homey To be fair, Lee typically doesn't get 9-letter words that often. He was probably just as shocked as Susie was, especially given that STEADINGS isn't exactly used often.
Really? Well I'm flattered. Mind you, she's another that's just as clever if not more so, and fairly quick too, though Lee probably has the jump on everyone there, right?@@Mubashir_AK
He did look genuinely surprised. But I'd ay the reason he normally might not score so high is because he's too busy fooling around and doing what he does best, being very entertaining. @@TeamPaul17
"you must be annoyed about it John"
"I'm FUCKING FINE about it!"
😆😆😆
You can tell he was pissed off about it and Lee wanted to maintain the peace the he threw all future rounds for the rest of that episode.
threatens to stop donating to the rescue dog so Lee said it could come to live with him on his 'Steadings' 🤣 Salt in the wound 🤣
That and his reactions to Carrot In A Box are my favorite Jon Richardson moments
When Lee accidentally broke Jon's Smugometer.
he got so pissed he decided to try and be the only other person to ever get 9 letter words. (until 2 other people got them)
Lee's "Steadings" moment is right up there with his Wilty improv with the bunch of keys, and the stuffed rat. Three iconic Lee Mack TV moments.
Lee Mack on WILTY, that’s him at his best on panel shows. Really brings out his quick wit
Don't forget his missed royal wedding on Wilty. I watched taht so many times ...
Also his first standup gig story on Graham Norton.
You’re forgetting his carrot in a box
There was the map with the blue and orange dots on it, and I think in the full edit he lost his rag because it was an impossible task! 😁
8:32 The evil of Rachel, putting down a longer word with the leftovers.
I didn't notice that! It's beautiful.
if you pay close attention, she often have fun with the leftovers
The ”Ok I Squirt” is a Classic.
That's genius 😂 i totally missed that
I hate it when people correct minute things, so I apologise beforehand; it’s a great catch but I had to rewind because I missed the first second, focused on catching all the lingo; so perhaps for non native English viewers here is the link slightly earlier where she completes DRONE after putting up Alan’s find: 8:30
I think the most impressive one is the "unclaimed" because Jon is really stressed out by the tension round and still managed to achieve it.
36 points well earned 👏 👌
What pissed me off is that they didn't add those 36 points correctly. At 15:32 you see they have 21 points, and then at 15:46 it shows 54. How the hell do you add 21 and 36 and get 54?
@@CodeMage the scoring was all over the place. They started the round with 18 points.
13:56 John claims he has a nine: 16 - 18
15:12 John is congratulated: 16 - 27
15:18 John takes a bow: 16 - 21
15:47 Final score 16 - 54
Some of the others were way harder. I managed to figure out unclaimed in about 50s (paused) vs some of the others I didn't find after a few min. Constable was super scrambled, with no two letters in a row.
Unmedical
"Stone.. cutting edge" - absolutely underrated joke from Jimmy
Yeah I caught that one too, I'm trying to think of another pun but honestly I'm between a rock and a hard place
@@Imperial_SquidThat joke rocks but maybe that’s just cause I’m stoned
@@georgerendell7292im cracking up, these puns are solid, keep em coming
It's doable, but you'd have to be a bit boulder to pull it off.
These last ones aren't very gneiss. We have to put in ore effort!
I love how Susie Dent fits in as well on Cats Does as she does on the regular Countdown. .
Susie is just lovely.
I love that at 8:30 when Katherine says STAB the leftover letters spell a longer word (CLONE)
That killed me and I was sad the audience didn't pick up on it.
“I don’t think that’s any of your business” is one of the best one liners I have seen on a show
And I still don't get it. British cultural reference?
"for the sake of argument I'm gonna say 4"
@@michaelengelby732The humour is that it's a needlessly hostile and absurd reaction to lighthearted small talk
@@aselunarit’s funny, but nowhere near hilarious
Yeah I dunno the premise just isn't that funny to me. One of my least memorable one liners if it wasn't everywhere
I love it that Susie is so proud whenever someone gets a 9! :)
👍 that joyful gasp she often does is adorable.
Proud teacher vibes!
For one glorious moment, I forgot that Sean had departed the Earth. What a bastard 😂
Unforgiveable.
So you mean he abdicated?
Yeah I do that sometimes mid watch. Fucker.
How could he 😪😪😪😪
Peter's delivery of abdicates is just perfect every time.
Ab-dick-a-teez
king
Ab-dik-a-tees 🤣
no its not, its boring. best person on this show was sean lock, closely followed by lee mack and jonny vegas. peter isnt funny.
@@1stswimThe argument was nothing to do with who is the best, and it’s almost as if comedy is subjective… You sound like a tit.
Does anyone else find it delightful as hell every time Susie enthusiastically confirms when a 9-letter word is correct?
Hell yes! It’s like solving the conundrum (which I’ve done!).
There's the ones she knows in advance and is expecting someone to get so she delights in confirming them- and then there's steadings which she never in a million years thought anyone would get
You know you’ve done well when you get Sean Lock clutching his side laughing…
The think I love most about Cats Countdown clip videos is all the weird stuff sitting around, with absolutely no context.
Absolutely! Like camera cuts … and there’s a headless Joe Wilkinson that no one acknowledges 😂😂
ThinG!
The one time Sean was able to have a 9 letters and I really wish he had a standing ovation, the legend absolutely deserved it.
Well he was being a bad sport leading up to it so it kinda deflated the moment.
@@solidmoon8266”bad sport” you mean he was doing a bit? His entire comedic personality is bizarrely antagonistic for no reason. He tells stories about how at bed he locks down his house, unplugs everything and if anyone moves he goes ballistic. As a joke you see. He wasn’t a bad sport, you’re just bad at clocking humour
@@ereynolds72 irony is you not getting a joke and then going on a lecture about people not getting jokes.
4:33 Suzi’s very quiet disappointed “Ah” at Ringier and immediately seeing the lack of an extra R.. followed at the end with a happy “Yay” at Lee’s 9 letter reuniting very satisfying… I love Suzi
You have 4 eyes mate joke is just brilliant 😂
Dont gettit
@@Olm9wears glasses = “four eyes”. Eyes = i’s.
I'd die a happy man if I ever received a congratulatory remark from Suzy.
8:31 Rachael casually making a longer word with the remaining letters
"STEADINGS" will always remain my favourite 9 letter moment on this show
I agree, and i actually knew what it ment.
After Tnetennba of course.
You know Peter's "none of your business" is a top notch line when Sean is p*ssing himself laughing.
Stoner was right there...
I loved that episode where they made the joke she was his daughter and they just kept rolling with it!
Lee found a nine
TWICE.
The most incredible thing about this video was finding out that Rob Beckett was on Cats Does Countdown when he was clearly only 6 years old!
Can we just take a second to recognise susie dent geting 8s and 9s on almost every round (and then having to give jon a standing ovation when he gets one lol)
Surely they have a computer finding the words and showing them, there's no way you could reliably do that and never make a mistake
@@vink6163they have a dictionary to check, Susie is a lexicographer so shes just good at knowing words.
Jons a comedian tbf.
@@vink6163nope. She’s just that good at doing this.
@@r8revolver773 Knowing words doesn't make you good at finding anagrams. I know almost every word they come up with but rarely find them myself. I'd be willing to bet money they have a computer do it - no human is that good.
EDIT: I looked into it and it appears I would lose that bet. Someone who was on the show says in the real Countdown, Dictionary Corner is sometimes beaten by contestants, and that Susie doesn't usually come up with obscure words that an anagram finding program would often suggest. So maybe she does do it all on her own, which is pretty amazing if true.
Lee Mack does such a good idiot, but this should remind you that he's a fucking genius. And if you watch more panel clips of him, he's faster than lightning with his wit, and never misses the mark.
Got you. At this level, all comics are ridiculously intelligent!
@@nickh3043even Rob Teeth (innit) is quite bright.
_Almost_ never misses the mark. Iceberg is a lettuce, not a cabbage. 😉
@@SpiritmanProductions But it did set up a spectacular riposte from David.
the abdicates joke was funny, then got stupid, and then funny again, all in one episode
It wasn't even funny to begin with and just continued to wear thinner. One trick pony.
@@razgriz380 I agree, I like his dry humor and how he stays in character (loved his guest role in Parcs & Rec for example), but that "abdicates" joke didn't do it for me.
comedy comes in threes!
@@razgriz380 i found it funny
Am I the only one who saw REACTIONS straight away from that combination of letters? You hardly have to rearrange them! Also, Lee Mack is so smart.
Literally immediately that word sprung out
I actually saw CREATIONS instead. Didn't see REACTIONS at all.
@@keegan1660 I saw REACTIONS, CREATIONS, ACTIONERS and NARCOTISE. When someone got NIGHTWEAR, I also got WREATHING, but then I'm a smartarse.
I just love that everyone applauds Jon except Sean. He is either angry or just playing his character about it, I cant tell and sadly we'll never know. But god, his reaction makes me laugh every time. Such a legend of a man.
Well said my friend 😢
I think he reluctantly accepted he was never going to be as good as Jon at the game.
Susie is like a teacher being excited for her students
I’ve always loved Henning Wehn on these shows. I cry laughing.❤
the constant cutting back to peter serafinowicz getting abdicates made it for me
Suzie’s proud reaction when John had his 9 letter word at 10:32, like a proud parent. so sweet.
I'm so proud of myself. I saw "reactions" before the contestants revealed their words. Of course, it helped that "eact" were already next to each other on the board.
“You need two Rs” “uh oh” the way she said that was perfect haha
That damn abdicated joke gets me every time
If you can make Sean Lock clutch his ribs in laughter then you know you're a good comedian
Thank you for compiling this. I knew that Lee got a 9 letter word twice but I was only able to find the "Steadings" episode.
I think I've watched about 50 of this programs clips but this one finally shows me what the basic premise is.
With just a little searching you can find pretty much all the episodes on this platform. And more than of few of proper Countdown.
I just watch short clips for the British comedy and good banter but cheers for the heads up.
One of the greatest "game shows" (and I use that term loosely) in the history of broadcast television. RIP Sean... you are missed.
I can't believe I laughed so many times at the "abdicates" joke, especially when he mispronounced it as if it were Greek.😆
Watching the difference between Jon's and Lee's differing reactions to Lee's 9-letter word makes it even funnier! This show is a piece of comedy panel show genius
Peter’s delivery of that line was perfect, I think Jimmy was genuinely worried.
Lee getting a 9 letter is still possibly the craziest moment in tv… then he did it again
Peter Serafinowicz is a comedian's Comedian. Only other comedians appreciate what it takes to be that witty, let alone how quick.
Jon is still not fine with "steadings."
14:14 Rob asking "Is it a word?" LMAO 😂
I believe that Paul Foot is the best guest player in cats does countdown
Does have to be noted that Peter loathes Corden… and didn’t want to be in a studio with him.
Peter is not alone with that feeling.
@simon
Hideous creature.
O wow I like him even more now
Who the fuck would?
Susie's excitement is infectious!
Just found your channel several months ago. Best show to date!! Great work!
I got a alternate 9 for the "unclaimed" puzzel:
Abdicated.
Or abdicates
I think Claudia did an excellent job filling in for Rachel.
In at least one episode Claudia had Rob Beckett as an assistant. Not like Joe Wilkinson assists Rachel, Rob actually did stuff to help.
I love how excited suzie gets
The first bit is my favourite ever.
Their faces whenever Lee gets a 9er (let alone a real word!)
I actually got remounted. First time ive ever found a 9 in the 30 seconds. Absolutely buzzing
Jon is a legend
You can tell Lee has a very high IQ. Super witty
So miss Sean Lock, absolute brilliant man
If youve never seen Peter's impression of Terry Wogan stoned you haven't lived - its amazing.
The letters that made "reactions" can also make "creations."
"I haven't seen sean on telly for a while" then i realised😢
You canceled the hated Licence Tax because the BBC is so left wing, and they other channels are woke crap?
I know. He’s so missed.❤
Well, whenever a celebrity of his age dissapears off TV almost instantly, it's for a much worse reason...
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL AT 9:53 when the classic, “You’ve got four eyes” joke was used xD
Jon missed an opportunity after "idolatry" to tell everyone to bow down before him
It was "idolaters"
wont ever be the same without Sean Lock. loved this man.
Who would have thought at the end of the day, Jon is in fact a genius. 😂
The actual most impressive thing here is that Susie knew Saltation was a word AND the definition DESPITE THE COPY OF THE DICTIONARY SHE HAD IN FRONT OF HER NOT HAVING IT
I still find it odd that Sean lock is no longer alive. Rest in peace
Anyone notice Jimmy was doin the best push-ups of the three?
Jon with the goatee and his dimple is almost more than I can take ❤🎉
He came in that episode with a full beard and ended it clean shaven.
@@christianboehlefeld5168 That’s too bad
Dictionary corners rectionto Lee Mack getting a 9 letter word was priceless
"RECTIONTO" for 9. Susie, could you check if it's in there?
@@szipszi9625 That's a no, I'm afraid.
John's a legend!
I imagine a pun along the lines of one of the guys commenting “I’ve got a ten; but, if we’re just talking word length I’ve only got a five” probably happened long ago.
Love that the "abdicates" clips kept sneaking in
Where was Richard Ayoade - tnetennba
But lets all take a moment for Rachels yellow dress.
Came for 'steadings' and was not disappointed.
I love how Rachel Riley instantly makes Clone out out the remaining letters after Stab.
That steadings play was absolutely absurd.
"I think I have a 4. It's STAB."
**Rachel casually making the word CLONE with the leftover letters, which is a 5-letter-word**
Loving the thumbnail. That’s how she looks in my.. inner heart
Idolaters is the most impressive 9 letter I've seen. What a geek 😂
I didn't know this show until my best friend Tim & his lovely wife saved Major & I. Sadly Major passed away, I now have Sergeant, another beautiful Datamation
Jon is really good at this 🎉
Hennings youve got 4 eyes was perfectly timed
If someone makes Sean laugh that’s true success
Joe Wilkinson's poem has Sean almost sick with laughing.Joe looked to Sean to see if it made Sean laugh.
I always find it reassuring how many 9s I get as a non-native speaker. :)
Jon is the goat of this game for sure haha
Say what you may, Jon is by far one of the best players in this game
Peter Serafinowicz is a class act and the best zombie in shaun of the dead too 😂
I love British comedians they look like allt o be great friends
Marvellous as always. I would like to know, though, whether Sarah really did get that nine with the help of John's powerful beard. 🙂
I just got watching the show again after Sean died..i miss him😢
0:30 - Master class in that side smile that let's your friends know you're taking the piss.
The weirdest moment of this video is Jimmy saying "is it in?" when Sean got TURNING.
You can also get atonalist and stational. Such lovely letters.
