- Richard Jobson gives us the lowdown on what's happening in Hollywood, with plenty of Stateside help from Katie Wagner. Originally broadcast on Wednesday, 12th August, 1992, the lead item is an interview with Sigourney Weaver about Alien 3, while news of the closure of the Max Factor Museum is causing consternation. (I believe it was eventually incorporated into a more general movie museum that took over the building.)
Following the ad break, we have a chat with Patrick Macnee about his book Blind in One Ear and hit record Kinky Boots, but highlight of the show for me is the appearance of 'Weird Al' Yankovic discussing his parodies, with several clips to enjoy. They talk like Al was completely unknown in the UK at the time, but I'm reliably informed in the comments that he'd already had a top 40 hit over here back in 1984. There are also other brief bits of entertainment news thrown in throughout, plus the then-current top ten films in the US, which includes the likes of Universal Soldier, Sister Act, and Honey, I Blew Up the Kid.
Grateful thanks to Ben for sending me this recording.

These people are so full of cheer!
And I absolutely LOVE the unhinged-ness of the machinations in the museum. What an absolute gem! Thanks for posting.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Al Yankovic about 3 years ago over Zoom. He was so so kind and everything you can expect from him. What a lovely man🤩🤩
I've heard he's basically the nicest guy in the music industry. It's rare for someone whose entire business is parody to stay good-natured and never go down the nasty route.
The Top 10 US Box Office films.
Weird Al?!
I'm in the minority that actually likes Alien 3.
Did you see the Alien Romulus teaser?
I'm looking forward to that releasing.
I don't normally say that about modern movies, but I'm hearing good thing's.
I hadn't even heard about that - somehow I completely missed it altogether. Everything's being rebooted, isn't it? I'll be interested to see what they do with it, and if they can create decent characters. (That's the big thing about modern movies for me - too many where I just don't really care about enough of the characters.)
@@VideotapeFTW it's going to be canon.
It's set inbetween alien and aliens. So Ripley will still be in hypersleep.
Apparently, the company (weyland) find the alien that Ripley blasted out the airlock in the first movie. They do experiments on it and try to reverse engineer it, from what I've read.
The majority of it will be practical effects. The director said he dislikes CGI, which is music to my ears, lol.
The sets are real, and not green screen.
They've also brought back the original crew who operated the xenomorphs and face huggers.
I'm stoked to see it.
Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
It better not be disappointing, otherwise I'll never go to the cinema again, lol.
I've got high hopes for Beverley hills cop 4 too.
Apparently, the test screenings have been really positive.
I don't know how this is the first I'm hearing of all this! If they can pull this off, then all the ingredients are there, right down to the practical effects. Can it live up to the hype? My expectations of Hollywood are so low these days that simply not messing it up completely will be good enough for me. Here's hoping!
@@VideotapeFTWThere's also an alien tv show on the way. Not sure if it's canon or not though. That's due out next year, on hulu.
Lol, i hear that, about not having much faith in Hollywood. Normally i don't.
Most of the movies and tv shows they produce these day's are trash.
Although, i watched fallout a few day's ago and it was fantastic. Blew me away with how good it was.
Best tv show I've seen since stranger things and cobra kai.
I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it already. It's on Amazon prime.
Ham on, ham on, ham on whole wheat, lol.
Love Weird Al.😂
Strange to think he was basically unknown in the UK at this point. I wonder if this was his first interview on British television.
@@VideotapeFTW The only time i seen him in the 80s was on a tape that my friend had.
We were playing his nes after school. Had to have been about 87 or 88.
He played me the thriller video, and then showed me weird Al's eat it.😂
I'm trying to figure out which British programme would have shown those. I do remember a Lenny Henry parody of Bad, which he simply called Mad.
@@VideotapeFTW I'd heard of Weird Al before 1992. Eat It got to #36 in 1984 so he would have been on TV at various times after that.
@80sandretrogubbins25 Oh, wow, as far back as 1984? I didn't realise that. That must have been off the back of a TV appearance, but I can't think what. I don't think Eat It was ever on Top of the Pops. Maybe The Tube?
Perhaps the ultimate filler programme. And there's plenty of competition for that title.
I can't work out whether this was made specifically for ITV, or whether the interviews and stuff were recorded and then shopped around for anyone to put their own links to. Certainly that Sigourney Weaver one looks 'stock'.
@@VideotapeFTW I'm tempted to think maybe the latter but don't know for sure.
