SM:tv Live clips ft. Steps (2000)

  • Clips around the morning's Pokémon from SM:tv Live, so you know what that means: the Pokérap, of course. Or maybe not, as Dec insists he's only putting on his Pokémania for the viewers at home. All members of Steps eventually make an appearance, with Faye and Claire looking genuinely bemused and borderline scared at what's transpiring around them. There's even a glimpse of (original line-up) Atomic Kitten as the Postbag is introduced.
Also includes a full ad break, although it doesn't seem entirely on-demographic as far as I'm concerned (especially that rather questionable Oxo one). I would say don't buy the News of the World, but you can't. And imagine being Burger King, trying to promote your Simpsons tie-in with absolutely no animation whatsoever.
[EDIT: Possibly from 4th March 2000 according to @kylebulger4240 in the comments, but I need to see your working before I can know for certain.]
Grateful thanks to @David315842 for sending me this tape.
(If you're a copyright holder and have any objections, please feel free to contact me. Alternatively, I haven't monetised the video, so you're welcome to do so, and that way everybody wins.)

WOOOOW, thanks so much for uploading this. Not only was this Pokemon at its height, it was Ant and Dec really coming into their own and it continues to this day pretty much. Cheers, all the best

I was 19 in 2000, and hadn't watched Saturday morning tv since 93/94 due to football practice. But, i stopped playing Sunday league football around this time, and so obviously there was no more practice on a Saturday. That obviously meant i caught quite a few episodes of this show, and that CD UK, or whatever it was called.
I much preferred the old format though, ITV chart show.
But yeah, SMTV was pretty entertaining, thanks to Ant & Dec. You could definitely tell though that Saturday morning tv was on the wane by then.
It wasn't as good as the likes of superstore, going live, ghost train, get fresh, motormouth, and such like.

      @VideotapeFTW  Před měsícem +2

Yeah, I liked the Chart Show, too, but it was a really clever idea to get proper stars in to perform live on CD:UK, and then once they were at the studio, they could rope them into whatever SM:tv Live shenanigans they felt like. It's surprising so many of them were up for making an idiot of themselves in Chums or whatever. I suppose the screen chemistry of Ant, Dec, and Cat went a long way.

@@VideotapeFTW True. It was a good idea to have that TOTP kinda show, with getting bands/groups in.
Maybe I'm just hating on it because i didn't like how music was changing in the early 2000s.
I'm a big 80s to late 90s music fan, and of the majority of genres in those two decades. But, after the whole britpop scene died out in the late 90s, nothing else caught my attention after that. I even stopped going raving in the early 2000s because the dance music had changed so much. Guess I'm just a creature of habit, lol.
Back to Ant & Dec. Yeah, they definitely had great chemistry, along with that Kat. I liked her. I thought she was good too.
The thing that sticks out in my mind the most about smtv is wonky donkey, lol.
Oh, and A & D singing that madonna erotica song, with the lyrics, bill oddie, bill oddie, put your hands all over my body, lol.
I thought that was hilarious. I've never forgotten it.😂

@@TheRetroManRandySavage I'm with you on the music - there was quite a void in the charts for me after Britpop burned itself out, and I didn't really get into anything new for a few years after that. I had friends who went for the whole nu metal scene, but that was never really for me. Although, weirdly, I can enjoy now a lot of the stuff I didn't like back then, at least to a certain extent.
I really hope more recordings of SM:tv (and all other Saturday morning shows for that matter) continue to show up - including that Bill Oddie clip. These things don't deserve to be lost in the mists of time.

@@VideotapeFTW yeah, nu metal isn't really for me. I prefer the old metal, lol.
Black sabbath, iron maiden, Judas priest, early def leppard.
I don't mind a bit of Metallica, but i never really took to that thrash metal.
Would you ever post anymore going live?
I know it's a bit controversial now, what with the actions of Schofield, but I'd still like to see some fresh clips, if you ever happen upon any.👍

I think that one of the ladies that was a voice over in Pokemon also was the host on Cartoon Friday's on the Cartoon Channel in America. Plus she did her iconic pokemon voice in front of the three stars of Harry Potter in an interview for Cartoon Friday's.

I'm surprised usually this would usually include Challenge Ant and Chums from the same morning, unless this was before that. Probably was. 'Insert the usual apologies and gratefulness here'. :D Oh and as for the ads, SM:tv Live was to cater to kids AND teens, with Ant, Dec and Cat often getting away with quite a bit of innuendos and sometimes these jokes could be found on shows like Sabrina: The Teenage Witch and Clueless the TV series. It surely was a show that tried to entertain EVERYONE, so that Oxo ad wasn't really too far from home here. Burger King would have likely had to pay Fox quite a bit of cash for original Simpsons animation for their ad. ;)

Thanks to you as always for supplying the recording! This is definitely all there was of this particular edition, but there's a bit more SM:tv Live to come from your tapes, including Chums. Stay tuned, as always. :-)
