How to Choose the Right Leather/Cork/Vinyl For Your Project
zhlédnutí 2,9KPřed 5 měsíci
Unfortunately it's not just a simple answer when it comes to choosing the right leather, cork, or vinyl for your sewing project since there are a lot of factors that come into play like 1) what are you making? A slouchy hobo style bag or a raw edged wallet? 2) what machine are you sewing with and what thickness can it handle? 3) how thick is the vinyl and what kind of temper does it have (tempe...

Tips For Printing PDF Patterns Correctly

I’m quickly covering how to ensure your PDF pattern prints correctly. Almost all sewing patterns have a test box (at least all mine do!) to verify your pattern pieces have printed the correct size so you can confidently cut into your good materials. PDFs are best printed using a program designed for them such as Adobe Reader (a free download on their website here: www.adobe.com/acrobat/pdf-read...

Finished my very first Stephie bag. So happy. Great tutorial. Made it so easy to make. Thank you. I’ll be making more.
This is such a fantastic idea!
Thank you!
That’s super cool
What does decoville stabilizer feel like? I have something that doesn’t have a label on it but not sure if that is what it is…uhh should have labeled it😢
It’s an off white color. That’s the easiest way I can tell it apart from other stabilizers that are typically white or black. Decovil heavy is very firm, decovil light is not as firm.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns and which one do you prefer I use for this bag?
@@ufoquilter86decovil light!
I am excited to give this a try, I have always wanted to make a backpack and this is a great one!
Thank you! Can’t wait to see yours! 🤗
Just bought my pattern and hoping it goes smoothly for me lol, I think mine will be made with TULA PINK fabrics! I hoard that stuff
Ooooh that will look so good on this!
Just what I was looking for! Where did you get that fun vinyl?
It was a custom print from Backstitch Fabrics.
I love Mojo's!!! Sounds awesome ❤
This is wonderful! ❤ As a newbie, this will help for sure!
Yes! It’s exactly people like you that this is for 🤗
What a great idea!! Also, great idea to keep it "small" for all our small businesses!❤
Great idea. Maybe vet a couple of other shops for hardware, webbing, etc?! Sourcing good materials is the challenge, not sewing up the item. JMHO. Love your patterns, Linds. Really special!
А бесплатно не как нельзя это зделать
Correct. This is a pattern for sale. I create these videos as a courtesy for my customers to supplement the written instructions.
I link to my website in the description box above for the pattern. But here’s a direct link: lindshandmade.com/collections/pdf-patterns/products/guardian-anti-theft-backpack-pdf-sewing-pattern-includes-svgs
Great video. Excellent explanation of how to make this bag. I can’t wait to get started on my first bag. Thank you so much. Gillian from Australia. 1:03:20
Thank you for such a nice compliment! Can’t wait to see yours!
You're going to love it!!! I have a Fabricator!!!
Question: I have this machine in my cart but have not purchased. I currently have Juki TL18QVP which does a good job but not perfect. I am also a quilter so I need machine for that. I have held off on an industrial machine as I just don’t have the room. This one seems like a good one. Do you think I will be satisfied with this one being my “industrial” or will I regret not buying big one with big table?
It actually sounds perfect for your needs! My friend just used this machine with 30 wt cotton thread to do some FPP and said it sewed up beautifully. And I already know it handles my WPC and leather layers great. I always recommended this machine for bag makers who don’t have room for a true industrial.
Wowzer. It’s gorgeous!! ❤
Prepping for the retreat- my Ultrafeed is being delivered today!
Eeel! That’s so exciting!
Welcome to the dark side.
When leaving the paint to dry should the strap be snapped shut or left open so it sits flatter? Or does it not matter? Thanks for a very informative and helpful tutorial. I’ve just ordered a set of mojo paints to try and can’t wait 🎉
It should be left unsnapped. You want the paint to fully cure so that it’s rubbery/bendable before snapping it shut so it doesn’t crack.
@@LindsHandmadeDesignsthank you for clarifying. Glad I asked. Can’t wait for my paint to arrive 🎉
Welcome to the dark side. 😁
You are going to love it. I love mine.
I love my Sailrite ultrafeed, just wish I could figure out how not to chew up my vinyl on thick layered corners.
Have you tried reducing the foot pressure?
Have you tried using a smooth or leather foot? You can change your feed dogs too. Try letting up some of the pressure on the pressure foot.
@@Jaded6911 I have tried letting upon the pressure foot but then the stitching becomes wonky. I have not tried the smooth or leather pressure foot I will have to invest if this will cure my problem.
@@user-fm2ip3kj2y the leather set comes with a change of dog feet. It is a learning curve. Keep going. It's a great machine. Wait. Is it the pressure foot or the dog feet? Also they have great customer service. You can email or even talk to an actual body.
Love my Sailrite Ultrafeed LS-1
Sweet!
Ooooo Sailrite! I love mine!!! Great choice in my opinion.
Brilliant
I made the mistake of buying some very soft kidlike vinyl with which I would like to make a small bag. What interfacing would you suggest using to stabilize and eliminate stretch and stiffen. It is really soft. Thank you Thinking an H2O 2GO if possible.
Maybe try a small sample piece interfaced with sf 101 (or any brand woven interfacing) and see how you like it. That will take the stretch out but still keep it easy to work with.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thanks, Lindsay. I tried a small piece with SF101 as well as fusible fleece and the fleece seems to do the job.
Very nice
I really appreciated your review on the Sailrite you’re using and the gorgeous things you’re making on it. That topstitching 😍 I’m seriously contemplating one, as it’s cost effective, is a walking foot, and most important, fits my space.
Yes to all those things! I completely understand that a full on industrial with a knee lift and table isn’t feasible for people with limited space or budget. This is a great little machine 👌🏻
What are you mixing? Edge paints?
Yes these are giardini leather edge paints.
Cute. Because I only carry small bags these days, I hacked your Purse Pal to four cc slots instead of six, and it’s wonderful. The PocketPal is too small for me, the Purse Pal too big - hope you don’t mind. I don’t sell or teach this modification. Love all your patterns. I have quite a few. 🥰
Awesome! I’m glad you were able to tweak it to suit your needs 👌🏻
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns You’re so generous and fabulous!! Thank you.
How wide is your strap?
@@Misscrazytrain2u No strap on mine but I did widen the snap tab and added RFID.
Beautiful.. love the colour🥰
Me too!! One of my faves. 👌🏻
Where did you get the stand that holding the purse
From mojosew.com It’s their “helping hands” tool
Where did you get that awesome hanger??
+1 I’m curious too
It’s called the Helping Hands tool from mojosew.com 👌🏻
Dlaczego malujesz frezem?
🥰 he's so stinking cute. Love those cowboy boots.
Thank you! He’s been asking for a pair ever since we got back from our camping trip in TN. Welp, we finally got him a pair this past weekend and he is OBSESSED! Wears them everywhere 😂
Linds, which pattern is that? I don’t think I’ve seen it before and I need it! 😁
It’s my Andrew Trifold wallet. ☺️
Thanks! Found it, bought it, now looking for the full tutorial! 🎉😊

thank you for calling it like it is - VINYL.
I love it 😍👍 what material is that ?
Vinyl
Wow!!
I’d like to know what kind of needle that you’re using and also thread what’s the weight of the thread
I don’t recall what my needle was at the time, definitely a universal needle but I couldn’t tell you the size. I’m using tex 45 thread in this machine in both the bobbin and top. I always recommend using the thickest thread your domestic machine can handle
Hi! I have your pattern and love it; however, I now have a big Stanley cup with a handle and was wondering if you have a hack for a space for a handle and a square bottom. Love all of your patterns. Thanks!!!😃
I get this request a lot and I completely understand but I’ve tried reworking the design to accommodate the handle but unfortunately, by adding a slit with snap/velcro to the back seam for the handle would mean the handle would bang against your body. If we move the slit to the side, then we are messing with the strap connectors. Moving it to the front means all you see is a giant handle sticking out 🥴. My best recommendation is to print it larger so the bottle and handle fit inside the main compartment.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you very much....I can see how that would be awkward....Do you think 120% is reasonable?
I haven’t tried it myself but I would print the main body pattern piece at 120% and then wrap it around my bottle and see if the whole thing fits (accounting for seam allowance on the back seam). If it fits, perfect! Cut out your materials. If it’s swimming in there, try 110 or 115%.
@@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you so very much!!!😊
This is my first time making a wallet. Would the card strip work from fleece or flannel? I have a strip that is about the right size and color.
I would NOT use fleece. Flannel should be fine. You really just want a material that is as thin as possible so it doesn’t get super thick as you fan fold it for the card slots.
Thank you I used quilt cotton ❤
Awesomr😊
Thank you so much for this video. This pattern is really stretching my skills. My Guardian certainly doesn’t look as pretty as yours, BUT with the video, I was able to finish it!! The next time I will make one out of vinyl and ignore all interfacing lol
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
What an adorable little wallet!! ❤
Right?!
Love the zipper, adding mine now. And I always zip my bag!!!
Atta girl! I’m proud of you 👊🏻. I do too!
Arghhhhhh!!! I just made the bag and closed it up and realized I forgot to sew the straps to the base. And I cut off the bulk seam allowance so I can’t even rip it out and go back. I’m sick!
Oh man, I’m so sorry. Take a breather. Walk away for a day and come back later and seam rip and add it. It’s fixable!
Hello from Spain. What material do you use for the lining, to make the card holder? Thank you!!!
I’m using waterproof canvas in this video 😊
Thank you!!
First let me say how I enjoy making your bags and I love making your water sling bag. I am new to this and having a blast making purses and all the other items. But having a hard time finding the waterproof canvas without shopping on line. Was at a fabric store and the women convinced me to use fray stop waterproof material ( material used for making rain jackets). Well that was too flimsy. So thank you for including the online store to get the canvas. But I have a question, my granddaughter has one of those Stanley cups with a handle and the sling I made her can't fit that cup/water bottle. I noticed there are some hacks on your video on how to eliminate the bulk on the bottom, making a square bottom, and making just a zipper pocket. But there are no hacks on how the sling can be adjusted for the handles on the water bottles. Do you think you can advise me on how I can make it feasible for the handle water bottles? thank you for your help Janice Hughes.
Where pattern??
Are you looking for the printable pattern pieces for the strap accents and d ring connector piece? I have them available on my website and linked to them in the description box above. Otherwise there are no written instructions, just this video tutorial.
