    People just flip out when they see my Guardian Backpack. I make them with souvenir t-shirts that I interface really well. I also use a quilting cotton lining that coordinates, then flip the back flap around so the outside flap is the the lining fabric and the lining fabric is the t-shirt. Tons of fun! Thanks for the great pattern!

    Absolutely love this pattern... Great price and sew 😉 worth the money! ABSOLUTELY HATE the double-sided tape suggestion. Maybe it's that my tape was too sticky or my machine isn't tough enough but my machine couldn't properly sew through it... So many skipped/dropped stitches for the handle that I had to sew by hand. Thankfully, i started with a prototype bag that's just gonna get tossed in my truck for on the road extras. I figured I would need a test subject to figure out the quirks. Just multiple the length of the zipper tabs by the percentage you enlarged if. So if your printing at 120%, your enlarging it by 20%, if the tabs are 5in long, multiple 5 x .20 = 1 then take the 5 and add the 1 so it would be 6in (idk how long her zip tabs are for this pattern, just using a number as an example).

      @dajanalaketic1455 Před 3 lety

      @@LindsHandmadeDesigns It matches perfectly. I was just curious what the material was, but I am not sure whether the decovil gives it the firmness ( probably it does). I saw Ecoweld at Tandy a few months ago, and didn't buy it at the time but now it is nowhere to be found [if I so find it, it is $35 a bottle].
      Tandy now sells something called Eco flo- leather craft glue, but I am not sure whether it was the same thing as the one you are using. Basically, I wanted to buy it and try it on my vinyl because you said it doesn't smell bad and it gets really tacky. I wanted to try something different than Beacon glue because it takes such a long time to dry between two pieces of vinyl when I make the snap closures for purse/pocket pals. I guess I will buy it and try it, and then let everyone know. :)

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Před 3 lety +1

      I don’t really find the eco weld to work great on vinyls though because of the fabric backing 😕. It’s the roughed up suede side of leather that makes it so great on my leather projects. I think the fabriTac is still your best bet for vinyls honestly.

      @@LindsHandmadeDesigns Thank you so much for sharing. Maybe I am using too much, since when I apply beacon 3in1 glue on one side of the strap and press the other one on top, unless it dries overnight, once I go to cut it and sew it, it kinda oozes from between the layers (even after close to an hour). I thought this might be the problem with the vinyl backing, but I know I am not the only one using this glue,, so it must be user error.. I haven't tried fabrictac yet, I know a lot of people use it to treat cork. But thank you for sharing, you have saved me a few bucks from spending at Tandy's :D

      In our more recent patterns we’ve started using a 2” box because the 1” box can *appear* accurate but actually slightly off and over the course of a larger pattern piece, it makes a difference. Occasionally printers will “force” print it to fit a certain size, sometimes at a totally random number like 96%. You’ll need to check your printer settings and make sure it’s set to 100% or “actual size”.

      It was a custom order from Backstitch fabrics called “creatures”. This particular one is a boardshort material I interfaced.

      Accurate seam allowances really come into play when there are multiple seams before attaching an oval base. It should be a perfect, (although thick in some areas), fit

    Hi Linds, me again😊 I can't find Decovil so I bought fusible fleece (some call it compressed batting). When I attach it to the bottom WP canvas liner, the heat alters the shape of my piece. Any suggestions please?

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Před rokem

      You will want to irons with a pressing cloth over the plastic coating of the WPC so as not to melt it. But fusible fleece isn’t an ideal substitute for decovil light. For bases of bags, I would use the pellon peltex, one sided fusible if I couldn’t find decovil light.

    Hi - what type of fabrics have you used as your main fabric? (I suppose I was surprised to see the waterproof canvas for the lining and not the outside) - thanks in advance

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Před 6 měsíci

      It’s actually a boardshort material that I interfaced with a midweight woven interfacing. I wanted a fun print for the exterior over the solid WPC I had.

    I just have a question about snipping into the zipper tape. I’ve done it on my H20 2GO bags (the pattern suggests). But does it cause the zipper to unravel? I’m always so scared the zipper is gonna come undone when I cut into it. Jw if anyone has any issues with it doing that or anything.

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Před rokem

      I personally have never had an issue with it but I will say, snipping no MORE than an ⅛” is super important and I find certain zipper tape is higher quality than others.

    Where did you buy your reflective webbing and does the waterproof canvas have a certain thickness or are they all the same?

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns
      @LindsHandmadeDesigns  Před 2 lety

      I got that from the shop formerly known as seams sew awesome. They have since split into 2 separate shops, sewful therapy and sew awesome supplies. I believe they both carry it now. Either that or I know wonderground fabrics now carries a reflective webbing. As for the WPC, mine is a 600 denier but some shops carry a lighter weight version as well. I’ve never tried the lighter weight ones though to be honest.

    • @LindsHandmadeDesigns

      You want thicker sturdy vinyl for bag use so whatever your machine can handle really. You want to avoid the super light weight stuff used for table cloth covers. That’s way too drapey for this use.

      The yardage also accounts for the top grab handle as well as the optional shoulder strap, not just the 2 backpack straps. 😊

      Depends on the material you choose but quilt cottons come 44” wide and it would be 18” tall for a half yard. Canvases oftentimes come wider than that at 50+” wide.
