I used to love getting the music papers on a Wednesday-Sounds, Melody Maker, and NME. Meeting my friends after work for a couple of beers and talking about the latest music we’d heard, read about, or seen live was a ritual. This sense of discovery and community is what I aim to recreate with Now Spinning Magazine.
If you’re passionate about music, still love buying physical media whether it’s on CD or vinyl, and cherish the experience of exploring new sounds and old favorites, Now Spinning Magazine is for you.
I created Now Spinning Magazine to be a safe space-a place where music fans can come together without the drama. Here, you won’t find clickbait or harsh critiques. There’s no “10 Albums That Suck” or “Worst to Best” rankings. Instead, it’s like meeting friends at the pub for a chat about music, filled with respect, kindness, and a genuine love for the subject.
I can’t be passionate about being negative, so if it’s not my thing, I simply won’t talk about it. Phil Aston

The Alan Parsons Project - Pyramid (Super Deluxe Box Set) Unboxing
The Alan Parsons Project - Pyramid (Super Deluxe Box Set)
I found this a very emotional journey. My initial misgivings about seeing all the similar outtakes changed as I realised this was a box set with many different levels. Apart from the beautiful music it is a story of love, family loss, and a celebration of life, masterfully told through music and words
In this video, I explore the heart of the Pyramid album and the artists behind its creation. From the initial concept to the final masterpiece, and into the future with the immersive 5.1 Dolby Atmos mix, this box set offers a comprehensive experience like no other. The 45rpm Vinyl hal-speed remaster is just amazing!
This journey turned out to be much more emotional and profound than I ever expected.
Key Points Covered:
Detailed unboxing of the Pyramid Super Deluxe Box Set
Insights into the remastering process and sound quality
Exploration of bonus tracks and previously unreleased material
Review of the packaging and exclusive content
Personal reflections on the album's impact and legacy
Thank you for all your support

My favorite APP...it's the way they mixed exotic sounds and instruments with a futuristic vision...pure genius....and the sequencing...and the power of the writing...a flawless album to my ears ,10/10 in my book.
Thank you for watching - Phil :)
Such an amazing album, staggering concept. A personal favorite of mine. John Glascock, there is a bass player for you, an absolute legend; complete musical skills: awe inspiring singer (those backing vocals!), arranger, composer, stage presence, the whole package. He’s up there with the Chris Squiiers, the Greg Lakes, the John Wettons. So young. Bewildering line up, on what in my opinion was a 7 classic album string. These special editions are just magnificent.
Missing all three of these and Stand Up will be first.Need Heavy Horses and Too Old to Rock n Roll
I love this channel! It's a music channel by a fan for the fans!
Thank you so much for your kind words. You have made my day - Phil:)
I was working at Sound Advice from 1998-2004 in St. Pete, Florida. In early 2000 or 001. Some guy walked into the store and was handing out free copies of Alan Parsons "On Air" CD 💿 in DTS surround sound. I was talking to this guy. He was telling me Yes and Alan Parsons were doing a "DTS surround" tour. The guy was telli me, how great this "On Air" CD sounded. He told me to focus on few of the songs, and hear the beauty of Surround music. He told me the song "Apollo" would blow my mind, when JFK's voice starts coming out of the center channel. He shook my hand, and said he was heading to the Clearwater Sound Advice. When he left, one of my colleague's asked me, "Do you know who you were talking too" I told him, I think he's a rep. for DTS surround. He's Alan Parsons. I had no idea.
What an amazing story. Thank you for sharing - Phil
"Pyramid" was the first album I ever heard/bought by APP. It was one of the very first CD's I ever purchased (in 1986). It's a first pressing Arista CD, still in its original "smooth edge" jewel case (CD collectors of a certain age will know what I am talking about). Anyway, the deluxe box set looks extremely interesting and I just might check into purchasing it. Not sure, though. "Pyramid" has always been my favorite album of theirs, even above "I Robot". I agree with you that "Shadow of A Lonely Man" is a very emotional song. And I have always gravitated towards "Voyager", "One More River" and "Hyper-Gamma Spaces". Thanks for the informative, heartfelt review. 💿 😊
Thank you 🙏
Amazing box set!! I recall buying this in 75' and thinking it should have been a Yes album.
New cars are not made with cd players anymore, and most people like to listen to music in their cars
My ranking of the top 8 Sabbath albums with Ozzy: 1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (because it is an absolute masterpiece) 2. Never Say Die (believe it or not, but the melodies and Ozzy's vocals are delightful) 3. Vol 4 4. Master of Reality 5. Paranoid 6. Black Sabbath 7. Sabotage 8. Technical Extasy
Thank you for sharing
Great, great album indeed. There's something I really love to know about. What does it means on CD2, Eric Woolfson’s Songwriting Diary? Is it Eric talking about the music? Is it some beats of melody? Is it a conversation? What is it all about? Does anyone let me know what it is, please!? 👋👋👋
I explain a lot of this in the video. The diaries are Eric’s music ideas and journey towards the finished tracks. Many recorded at home on cassette as he was working on songs for this album and others. They are fascinating to listen to - Phil
Zero The Hero
Wonderful heart felt review Phil - I do love The Alan Parsons project and have a quite a lot of their stuff. Magnificent as the box is I'll probably give it a miss. Just preordered Jethro Tulls reissues so have to watch the pennies. I must say though I LOVE my box sets lol such wonderful music, and at great value. Cya on the next one. Cheers
Thank you 🙏
Great review as usual Phil. Looks like an awesome set with all the extra goodies, but this album was not a high charter, so it seems like an odd choice for the deluxe treatment, especially in the middle of their catalog coming out of the blue. Is Eve next? What about Gaudi? See what I mean? Seems so random or are they doing what Tull is doing but out of order? Cheers.
Thank you 🙏 I know what you mean. I am hoping to talk to Alan Parsons soon so will ask him. Phil
My favourite Alan Parsons album, bought it on cassette tape when it was first released.
For clarification, I believe Alan composed all the instrumental tracks on all albums. Great unboxing video. I hope Eric's daughters watch this.
Thank you 🙏
You once asked me why I support the channel and this video is a prime example of why I do. I sincerely mean this Phil and I am not trying to blow smoke up your bum but you should be on a national tv or radio show like the Old Grey Whistle Test or something similar to John Peel. You are the new Bob Harris. As for APP I am one of those casual fans who can take or leave them but I will listen with new ears when I next play their music. I have all the original studio albums apart from Sicilian Defence on cd and nothing on vinyl. Maybe I should invest in the vinyl box set if it’s still available. Vinyl is my favourite medium but like you I consider myself multi format but I didn’t opt for the 45 rpm option when I bought my Linn Sondek just to save a bit of money. I can however play 45’s on my older Linn deck but that’s not as good so I know that this box set isn’t for me.
Fantastic review as usual ❤
Thank you 🙏
I have never gotten into this band. But I have enjoyed this video about them.
Phil, I have just done the first 400 "conversions" from hard CD cases to the clear sleeves and I cannot believe how much storage space I have got back (as well as a dustbin full of hard cases). I keep my CDs alphabetically and got halfway through the letter "G" before running out and having to order another 400!
Hi Terry, the amount of space you get back is stunning. Lots of people are doing this now.
Good news indeed, I am still missing a handful of them.
Great review Phil 👍😀
Thank you 🙏
One of my favourite videos of yours Phil, great to hear and see the love you have for this set. I was lucky enough to meet Alan and the band at the end of tour party for the On Air album at Shepherds Bush Empire back in the day. I've ordered this from Townsend to get the signed print as well, and have the others too. I hope Turn of a Friendly Card gets redone to match these other more expansive sets - perhaps the Atmos mix could be a selling point for a rerelease of that particular underwhelming-in-comparison-with-the-other-sets-though-I-get-why-they-did-it-that-way-with-the-album-having-been-only-relatively-recently-released-as-a-three-disc-set. Can't wait for this to arrive, hope it's not the last, I, Robot is the obvious next contender. Sally's voice is also right there in the other sets, too; like you, it gives you a familial immediacy to what we get that gives the bones of a product a human spirit. They're impressive sets without her. With her, they become more valuable and possess more heart for us to share. Hope I'm not sounding too abstract here. 🙂
You’re sounding totally clear and rational! Thank you for sharing - Phil
Great video Phil ! This album is my early twenties & listening to it takes me back to a very happy great time. Thanks for a fantastic review 👍👍👍
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for a great review, Phil!
Thanks Phil for that information. Was hoping for Warchild to be released again. Of those three, that's the first one I'll purchase.
My second favorite APP album after I Robot. 'Can't Take It With You' got a fair amount of play on my local AOR FM station which turned me on to this album back in the late '70s. I'm hoping to pick up this super deluxe set after waiting for a price drop. I have a minty original and the big album box set like you, but I really want that 2 x 45 RPM pressing! Bought the similar set of Ammonia Avenue which has a 2 x 45 RPM pressing a while back and really loved it. Would love to see I Robot and Eye in the Sky get the same treatment eventually.
I got my box set on order. Pyramid is my personal all-time favorite APP album. Thank you for sharing. Also, the Analog Productions Atlantic 75th releases are amazing. Yes, 90125 is simply the best recording I have ever heard. Genesis Selling England by the Pound another top Notch Analog Production release. They are expensive but the remixes 45rpms are the best.
I remember buying this album on its release back in 1978 and that it has always sounded great on a decent Hi Fi .
Phil great video as always, Marillion is coming with a new boxset as well! The engines one
I've always been a fan of the Alan Parsons Project and this is a really great super deluxe box set Thanks Phil.🇬🇧🎸🎹🥁🇬🇧
Never really got into the Alan Parsons Project. Maybe it's time to give it another shot
I have a box 🙂
Great vinil...😎
Phenomenal song. 🎵. 💯agreed. Loved your summary Phil 👍💯
Hello Phil. I'm a newby to your CZcams posts. Just watched your Squire/Hackett review and I knew nothing about this. So I found the album and played over half, then I went back to your review and found your thoughts on several songs, sounding exactly as I'd have felt. I'm here because I really love this, have done for decades. I'm with you on your favourite - Silently Falling. What a fantastic track. Sadly, I couldn't say the same about Safe (The Canon Song). I felt that it went on too long. I really wished that he could have faded several minutes earlier and faded in The Fish. I feel it may have brought a better climax to end the album, possibly giving more meaning to the album title. Thank you for both of these Chris Squire reviews. Very useful, easy to follow and very accurate (IMHO). I'll be listening to your reviews more often. Now you are joining Sea of Tranquility and Niamh the Prog Nerd. Thoroughly enjoyed this 👌
Thank you 🙏
I love kiss 💜❤💙💚🎉🎉🎉🎉
i'm in CD land at the moment as vinyl has just got too expensive
Love the vid Phil, a big AC/DC fan this is my favourite Bon album just love the album, so different to any other DC album a real corker
Wish this was done with 'Twice Removed From Yesterday'
Me too !
I've really enjoyed this album. Parts of it remind me of The Xenon Codex and the guitar playing of Hew Lloyd Langton. Dave Brock sounds a liitle frail on this album, and this, taken with some of the themes explored here, gives the work a sort of thoughtful, retrospective and melancholic vibe. Definitely some classic Hawkwind on display here.
At last I'll be able to get hold of War Child the only set i don't have. I've looked for it for years on eBay and it was anything from £200 and upwards to buy. These re-issues will have the greedy sellers on eBay cursing the record label. Love it hahaha.
Hi Phil! Enjoying the show as always- nothing but positive vibes! When somebody loves music, whatever it is, it's the stories behind the discovery of said music and the emotions involved that result in the music having a special involvement for the listener that never wanes- not for me anyway! In 1978 when I was 15, I finally got the courage up to ask this girl out, that I fancied for a while. I turn up to her house as arranged one evening and her best friend is sitting between us, which I took to be not a good omen! After 5 mins of smalltalk, the conversation stalled into a very awkward silence, and to break that silence, the girl put on one of her older brother's lps. Never saw it before didn't have a clue what it was, but it had a chap on the free t bent over carrying a bunch of sticks. I thought- bloody folk music or something like that ( this is 1978, had 3 Purple albums, Paranoid and Rainbow rising), and when the needle hit the groove on the Sharp 3 in 1 music centre, thisweird sound emerged followed by the riff of Black Dog. Wow! Eureka moment! Awkwardness and said girl didn't exist anymore! My introduction to Zeppelin. To this day at almost 60 , I still get transported back to that first listen when I put on Zeppelin IV. Anyway Phil, just thought I'd share that! Hope you're keeping well and keep up the great positive channel! Fair play. Kevin O'Connor.
The song "Back To The Family" from the album Stand Up is my all-time favourite Jethro Tull song.
Hello Phil. Thanks so much for the info. The Stand Up issue is the one that I hoped would come back!! These reissues from Jethro Tull set a really high standard. Good news!!
First got into Horslips just before the release of The Book Of Invasions. Remember World Of Sport (a UK weekend sports programme from the 70's)?, Dickie Davies introduced a race segment one Saturday (bikes or something?) and had this fantastic music accompanying it, at the end he said the music was Horslips and a track from their forthcoming album Book Of Invasions. I bought it on the basis of that track. Fantastic band. Re the box, I just wish the artwork had been 'Celtic' instead of that ruddy 'German clown' picture...it put me off buying it!
I bought this album as soon it was released here in Sweden, but for me the first side are the most perfect songchoice and Martin did a perfect mixing to get them on to the first side! This is way better then how it was live I think when Man On The ilver Mountain just disapeared among other blues songs. For me still today Man On.. and Tarot Woman are their best songs. I think I have so much of theirs album that are available + many live bootleg. I love the German tour 1976.
My fav Tull album.
Hopefully too old comes out with more previously lost material 😎
Well… if you allready have them…is it OK to buy them again?…😂
Have you heard if Ian will do Under Wraps .. it would have amazing live videos ..
