This includes groundbreaking artists such as The Soul Stirrers, Johnnie Taylor, Billy Preston, and Bobby Womack's group The Valentinos, along with recordings from Sam Cooke himself.
Launched around the same time as Detroit's Motown, SAR Records aimed to keep gospel music alive while successfully crossing over to secular pop audiences.

I received the compact disc box set of this title from a friend in the business. Through my partner he was able to give me this set when he heard of my love for Sam Cooke.
So fortunate to have this title in my collection.
This music is uplifting and speaks to the spirit in many ways.

Another outstanding review Phil; you know I’m gonna get it.
Sam is probably my favorite singer of all time. He wasn't a big screamer, and he didn't need to be. His vocals were very subtle and full of nuances, and he would always hit the right note. My favorite album of his is Night Beat.
That's the essential Sam Cooke right there that's pretty much all you need if you don't have every single album.

I like Sam Cooke, but for some reason, his R&B contemporaries Little Willie John and Jackie Wilson are even more important to me. When it comes to prolific songwriting, though, Sam was the #1 guy among his peers.
