Videos of modelcoasters.com's working model roller coasters. This is a showcase channel. I do not have tutorials any longer, was spending waaay too much time answering questions. If you want to build your own model, I'd suggest Coaster Dynamix. (You can Google them.)
Joyland Model Roller Coaster
This recreation of the defunct real-life Joyland Amusement Park in Wichita, KS "Roller Coaster" (1949 - 2004) was made using the CDX Blocks system by Coaster Dynamics. The train was made by sanding the block tab parts down and gluing to brass metal for extra weight. The car bodies are also from Coaster Dynamix and I used stickers to replicate one of the 1970's era train paint scheme, which was my favorite (the other during this time was a red, white and blue Stars and Stripes theme). Silly Serpent - Project 31 Worlds of Fun Model Roller Coaster
I wanna see the New Schussboomer!
Very nice model of a blast from the past. This was quite an iconic roller coaster that I remember riding on back when I was 9 at the time. Do miss it however. The best part was when they introduced a cool inversion called the kamikaze curve.
Well done. This roller coaster made history at Worlds of Fun as the first roller coaster in the park with inversions just four years before the (now-defunct) Orient Express that had interlocking loops and a kamikaze curve. And then when Worlds of Fun decided to enter the wooden roller coaster market in an effort to be more competitive with other amusement parks, that’s where they didn’t have any choice other than to remove this and sell to another amusement park to make room for the Timber Wolf while reusing the station and entrance for the newer ride.
So cool! This was my first "upside-down" rollercoaster as a kid. It's funny now to see it wasn't all that scary, but it was to me as a kid. It still surprises me that they only used a lap bar even though it went upside-down.
You know, there is an exact copy of the JetScream! at Frontier City, in Oklahoma City. I just rode it this past Sunday. There were about 10 of them manufactured. Luckily, the one at Frontier City still survives.
ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN AWESOME!! A Beyond Awesome Job!! The Great American Revolution in All of its Glory, the way I remembered it when I took my Very 1st Ride in 1978 after graduation from Marine Corps Bootcamp, when there were NO LAME ASS TRIM BRAKES on the top of the hill before The Loop, and after The Tunnel, giving The Trains Awesome Speed coming out of The Final Helix. The Coaster also had a 5 Train Operation. Great Job on The introduction of The Video. The spelling of Revolution, just like in The Movie, Rollercoaster, with The Sky Writing. And I can understand the difference with The Music, because of Copyright.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎢♥️
Thanks for your thoughtful comment, and I'm glad the model took you back!
@@modelrollercoasters Man, Did It Ever!! I also rode Colossus the same day after taking my 1st few rides on Revolution, and I'll never forget how Awful, and Painful of a ride experience it was. Plus because of ride operator negligence, Ms. Flores met her untimely death in December of 78. They should have known she was of a much larger size, and not allowed her to ride. To this day my Deepest Heart Felt Condolences goes out To The Family, who lost Their Loved One much Too Soon. After Colossus reoped on December 23, 1979, and rode it with the New PTCI Trains that had Buzz Lap Bars, and Skid Friction Brakes, Colossus became my Instant #1 Wooden Rollercoaster, Period!! What was Awesome, that I was able to ride The Once Mighty Colossus about 2wks before being deployed over to the Far East when it reopened. 🇯🇵🇰🇷 When I returned to The United States, and had the 1st weekend Liberty, I headed straight back to Magic Mountain. As soon as the gates went up, I literally RAN to Colossus. I couldn't get enough of it. I really wish that Magic Mountain worked hard to preserve the Bill Cobb Associates version of Colossus, instead of allowing Ruin My Coaster (RMC) to convert The Once Mighty Colossus, into Twisted Colossucks!! I can't believe that the Park President actually said that Colossus was out of date, just after 36yrs of operation. Well it's apparent that he has never been to Kennywood. They Absolutely know how to Maintain Their Classic Woodies! The Jackrabbit, 103yrs old, and still operating like a Fine Tuned Swiss Watch. The Beast at Kings Island opened in 1979, the same year Colossus was reprofiled, and reopened. But you will Never see Kings Island letting Ruin My Coastercome in, and Absolutely destroying it. I don't think much of The Beast. I see it as a Glamourized Overrated Amtrak Train Ride, from Mason, Ohio to Mason Ohio. But still Kings Island continues to give the Coaster the proper Maintenance, and TLC to keep it operating as a True Wooden Rollercoaster. The same can be said for Holiday World. They should open up a School on how to Maintain the Traditional Wooden Rollercoaster. Thank Goodness that the Giant Dipper at Belmont Park, and the Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz Boardwalk Still Continue to Thrill a New Generation of Thrill Seekers. Ok. I'm Done Blabbing, and Ranting! 🤣🤣🤣🎢❤️
The music is nostalgic for my mom scince she visited WOF when she was a kid
Have you tried experimenting with painting the track? It's a shame that such a simple track design only comes in black.
No and for good reason; it's because the tracks are actually extruded with a lubricant built in and it could ruin the track.
I like the cyworld model!
Was this roller coaster located next to the Orient express at World's of Fun ?
Yes, just across the creek in Scandinavia.
@@modelrollercoasters I thought so
These things are amazing!!! Looks like single rail type tracks. I am very interested in learning how to build it or the building techniques behind it. Would love to know or see videos on the construction of these.
Looks cool! I want to make a park like this model 😊
Go for it!
Wichita is my hometown! I grew up with fond memories of Joyland. It always breaks my heart to know the park is gone. Have you been on this coaster before?
1,000s of times. :) Wichita is my hometown as well, and I even worked and operated the Roller Coaster too!
Good to see another upload
Wow. It's been a while since you posted!! Also great coaster!
YES! just seen squarespace domain hasn't been claimed :/
And it can't be. I still own the domain in general, not on Squarespace. It MAY come back some day. Someday.
my mind: youve watched it like a hundred times already and its five years old my finger: *presses play*
Press Play. You must. Every time.
Ahh man... Wichita KS and Joyland Amusement Park??? To kewl for school. I grew up 120 west of Wichita and went to Joyland in 60's and early 70's. You have built and awesome coaster! Love it. Am struggling to get my coasterdynamics kit built.. (more due to a lack of time vs. trying)
Yeah, I was off for about 14 months between models this time. Folks were wondering if I died. I'm happy to report not yet.
Nice
Thanks so much!
Awesome job. Glad to see new vid. I was tempted to purchase the CDX blocks system. Still hoping Coaster dynamix will create more stuff.
I hope so too! Maybe this will inspire them to create some new trains for the CDX Blocks kit.
Its been too long lol
I know. 14 months. But I'm still alive. :)
Your models have been popping up on my feed. I really enjoy seeing your work.
Glad you like them!
This is awesome!
Glad you enjoyed this model!
Fantastic Work, very impressiv!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful model of an amazing coaster.
Thank you very much!
Holy cow, you have another coaster from my childhood!!! Best seat on the ride was front row, then standing up as it went down the hill. We got booted off the ride a few times for doing that. I don't think they ever put seatbelts on it. Amazing detail. I rode this opening year (1973), I was 5 and loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing work and it's functional! I admit, I did the chicken exit myself first time. Ended up riding it more times than I could count. One year, late 80's/early 90's we got stuck where the brakes apply over the sidewalk before the ride ends. Were were locked in for maybe 30 minutes and it started raining, even though there was a suspended walking platform next to us they wouldn't let us out. Awesome ride...remember the gum tree?
Oh yes, I remember the gum tree. I worked on the ride in 1985 and 10 years later in 1995. And all of my models are working models. I see you saw the Zinger model. There's the Screamroller (4 versions of it!), Schussboomer and Silly Serpent on the channel as well.
Arrow looper + RMC raptor
I was building this style of coaster before RMC. I always teased Fred Grubb with RMC that he owes me money. :)
why is it that when i enter your website i cant and the reason being that it says that content can be in the category of xxx?
I still own the web address, but the website was taken down some time ago and it is not active.
I also entered in www.modelcoasters.com and it goes to a squarespace page that says "Website Expired" so I don't think you typed it in correctly.
This coaster was demonized
Yep. :)
what do you use for the track? It's so cool!
.030 mil styrene plastic sheets.
I’m surprised this channel hasn’t uploaded a how-to video on these amazing models or go more into further detail
We did have tutorials at one point; however it became problematic when supplies were discontinued for various parts one would use. I averaged about 10 - 15 questions a day, when the tutorials were up and couldn't keep up. I made the decision that this channel would for the foreseeable future be a showcase channel only.
This is INCREDIBLE!!!
This was cool! So you had a support from the Zambezi Zinger? Should somebody tell that park in South America they didn't get all the pieces? I'm guessing the first day rider token from Revolution was the one The Young Man had since he didn't need it anymore? 😉 Some commenters said they spotted the Up Down Change Around Rollercoaster in your toys section. I didn't see it in your video but I did have one when I was a kid. I did see the Screamin' Serpent in your video. I got several of those after I was an adult. I was sad to see the museum didn't last long.
The Zinger Support was the top part and it had been replaced at Worlds of Fun, I do believe. It was on loan from my friends at worldsoffun.ORG. They have a lot of WOF memorabilia. LOL @young man comment. That's it! Yep the Up Down Change around coaster is in there, next to the red tracked Roller Coaster Tycoon model.
Awesome.. that is so cool...
Wow, even at actual speed it looks dam good. Great work!
Rocky Mountain Construction wants to know your location.
Fred knows where I am. And I've been making my models like this for over 30 years, so I'm the original, LOL!
Did you quit?
No. Just taking a break for a while. I'll still build, but just don't have the passion or time at the moment.
I remember this coaster from the 70s as a kid. I can still feel the thrill of going round and round slowly upward. Great job so amazing.
Reminds me of a coaster at Kings Island called the Vortex
like the scale speed of the train, it even show a little reduction in speed through the loops and inclines - cool job!
What happened to your website?
really nice
Wow thats a very cool model of a rollercoaster. Very detailed too.
Awesome layout and video! Keep up the great work!
Cool model and but does anyone on this comment section know how to reply to a comment?
So cool!!!!
Ed Morgan would be proud
This is so cool! What is it made of?
I remember riding the Schussboomer at Worlds of Fun in the mid 1970s. It remains my favorite, even after riding 30-40 coasters around the world. Very neat that you did this!
Will tube track replace flat track for your models?
No. Flat Track models are waaaay less expensive, this was an experiment. I will build some of both types in the future, but mostly Flat Track.
