  • NOTE: These are videos of model roller coasters that are built as a hobby. They are not for sale. There are no instructional videos. This model was built using .030 thick Styrene plastic for the track, aluminum tubing for the track support spine and bass wood strips for the structure. Cars are 3D printed and the wheels are O scale train trucks that are modified. The scale of the model is G scale - or 1 : 24 scale.
Rafter Blaster is modelcoasters.com’s first XL (extra-large) 1 : 24 scale model. It is twice the size of our O (1 : 48 scale) models. Because it is larger and heavier, the model moves a bit more realistically as compared to the smaller 1 : 48 O-scale models. This model was located at the now closed Roller Coaster Model Museum. It was built to fit the space above the Playtime: Roller Coaster Toy Gallery, which wasn’t practical for displaying any of our Toy Collection. This is an original design and not based on any particular real-life roller coaster.

Looks great! I'm really sorry the museum had to close, I'd visit if I didn't live so far away. But it was still a great idea and I love to see you still making models. Keep up the good work!

+CoasterRebel Thanks for your kind words. I gave it my best shot, and hey it was my dream. I made it happen (with a lot of help), it just like so many things in life, didn't turn out the way I thought it would, which I have learned is rarely the case. :)

+William Lea It's been a while, because I had opened the Roller Coaster Model Museum. This was one of the models there. Sadly, I had to close the Museum, due to lack of visitorship (several reasons that I won't go into, but one was location) but it was a great experience. I'll be posting a video of a walk through of the museum up probably next month, along with some more pictures on the website. I'm leaving for a couple of weeks to Florida in about 9 days.

So cute. That's the first time I've seen any of your models actually slow down at any point.
It is kinda sad that the site mentions the HO ones having gone out of production. Tried to shop for the arch bar ones sometime last year (the ones that are supposed to form the side wheels) but couldn't find any, tho I have managed to find the other more common kind on Amazon. If needed, maybe it's still possible to pop the wheel set off of an actual train car that you're not planning to use for a model train.

+Sokobansolver Yeah, I'm digging the XL models. It is a bad deal with the trucks not being made anymore, which is one of the reasons I have gone to the XL models. A lot of model train builders are grumbling about them not being in production any longer, so I'm hoping if there's enough folks interested the company would start producing them again, but I'm not holding my breath. I still have some HO scale trucks, but not many, and I do have a couple of trains I re-use. They do model a bit better and are actually a bit easier to build.

Are there magnetic brakes at the end?

Yes, one bar magnet on the train running at a right angle to the track and then 2 metal bars running the length of the track.
