Making Objects from LIFE Magazine in 1945: The STITCHLESS BUXTON leather wallet
I found another issue of LIFE Magazine, this time from October 1, 1945. It's (natrually) a treasure trove of old news articles and ads, but one in particular stood out to me: The Stichless Buxton wallet. Today I'm going to try my best to recreate this wallet design with a little help from the Laser Cutter. Enjoy :)

Turning George Washington's Wallpaper into a Laser Cut Lantern
zhlédnutí 1,9KPřed 14 dny
Today I'm at the Makerspace laser cutting a lantern inspired by George Washington... more specifically the wallpaper from one of the guest bedrooms at Mount Vernon, his home. Hospitality was a big part of day to day life at Mount Vernon, especially after the American Revolution when Washington became a world figure. The property saw an almost constant flow of both dinner guests and overnight gu...

I've made a few laser cut handbags with living hinges and one thing I'd like to improve on is their durability. I'm laser cutting an old pair of jeans for this experiment, and using a whole bunch of mod podge. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoy :) -Brooke Download Laser Cut Watermelon Handbag Files HERE: (coming soon) Get a discount at algolaser.com with our links... USE CODE: YTB...

Don't leave us hanging like this!
Full videos up on my channel if you can’t wait. I can only fit so much in 60 seconds 😭
Anyone else thought she was going to make stuff out of old magazines? Like a bunch of magazines put in a press, epoxied together and turned into the raw material for various projects. That's what the video title made me think of. 😅
Very nicely done! Just a tip: a bone folder would have made the folding process much easier, and probably would have made the folds tighter
In the 70s, my grandparents got us some store-bought version of this -- and then just a couple of years later the skateboard craze arrived where we lived, and the same physical motion pays off more on a skateboard, sooo these things vanished completely in like a month. Still more fun (and safer!) than the pogo sticks we had.
Awesome! Love the high five with the dog!
She’s big on high fives
Is there a way to recycle the support parts to use again in 3D printing?
It's lovely, but the center should be a gold tone, I think. Because daisies have the yellow centers and all.
That machine ! OMG ! ! ! ! That is so COOL ! And that is a beautiful dog. And I remember seeing those ads as a kid.
So cool! Thanks for sharing
I enjoy seeing these projects much more than I expected In terms of the folding, it can be helpful to skive your fold lines to make them cleaner and less bulky
Thanks for the tip. How difficult is that to do on non-edge folds?
How old was Shirley? She still looks so young in that pic
Doesn’t she? I looked it up and she was 17
OMG. Is that a Duck Toller?
Oh yes it is 😎
Cool content
I'm really interested how this is going to turn out. Please, post the results.
The full video is already up on my channel with the end results :)
This seems really cool!!
You dont need supports on domes they support themselves
Wehshhhhhhh❤❤
Be careful of the fire if it's made of wood
Love seeing the process, very cool and always cool to see your loyal shop helper.
Thanks Dave! I really enjoyed making this one
This is really cool! If it makes you feel better about the "one piece", I have a repro sewing pattern from 1918 that says it has one pattern piece...then it has separate ones for the collar, cuffs, and belt. 🤔
Very nice!
I freaking love this video!!!
Thanks so much! It was a ton of fun and I kinda love the wallet. I’m going to switch over to it
How cool! Also puppeh is such a patriotic distinguished gentleman in his neckerchief! ❤
Red the Shop Dog always dresses to impress
Awesome reverse engineering. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thanks!
Fun project - I liked seeing your process of iterative design. Interesting to see the stitchless design - similar to Jimmy's bags
Thanks! It’s a fun concept. I read some marketing on it, and Buxton presented it as being a more durable option since there’s no stitching to unravel or wear out over time. I wonder if that’s true!
It's like a skateboard from before they invented the wheel
I did not knew what wibbler is.
You still acts better then I'm on hooverboard ;)
The flying pig is really doing it for me what a beautiful design!!
Consider the strings on your shorts when operating power tools Stay safe
It's like if you made a skateboard, but couldn't afford to buy the wheels! .... 😄
Give it to me,that's what you should do ❤❤❤❤
monster walks on a skateboard, but with extra steps! subscribed <3
I have a vague memory of using a plastic version of this toy in the early 90s
You are talking about the era that saw rise to the Yoyo and the hula-hoop. Everybody and their brother tried cashing in on the kids' physical prowess toy fads. About 98% of them fell flat on their face, even when advertised by renowned publications like Life Magazine.
I remember dying 3 times as a child and I was told to walk it of.
Find plans for a "bongo board" and make one. They were lots of fun.
Like taking a walk on top of daddy's feet and shouting "look ma, no hands."
This needs to be a ceiling fan
So I got two cookies, approx 35" x 3" and I set them up outside next to an area that blows HEAT like crazy. IT's got AIR between EACH piece and THEN a Black plastic cover to not only gather MORE heat but to keep them dry.
You had a laser cutter? You could have built the whole base by laminating ¼ layers of plywood..
For Sale The Wibbler ...now make it outta aluminium and add sum skateboard trucks ...with a Heal flip at the back lol
Really pretty! You and the project 💗
I want this as a purse! So cool 😎.
Ooo, wait I love that! Popping the snout on and off to get the stuff inside would be so funny
You would have fun with my collection of Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, and Science and Mechanics magazines from the mid-1930s to the 1960s! Every five years or so, I go down that rabbit hole, and once I start, I have a hard time putting them down.
I've got a half-shelf of Popular Mechanics 1940s/early 50s articles collected into book form. Some neat stuff in there, some very useful, some pretty bizarre. The original "Maker" culture. (The only thing I miss are the period advertisements, since of course they didn't get compiled into the books.)
@@tombiggs4687 I recall the ads were mainly about new cars and cigarettes. In those days, every man was expected to carry on the farmer's tradition of being able to make or fix everything. Every man had a workshop in their basement or garage (sorry, ladies, this was strictly man's sport in those days). I am now inspired to pull out a box to look them over again; I packed in handfuls of bay leaves the last time to chase off the silverfish.
I think I could use that with my patient to facilitate hip rotation. Maybe in the parallel bars
Yeah you really didn’t need all those supports
P.s. Great build by the way !👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Back then it was more like " You have choice ! Play with the Wibbler or Daddies shotgun " ! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
