A BETTER way to Decorate Pumpkins || Laser Cut Pumpkin Sunglasses

- Today I'm decorating pumpkins at the Makerspace with the help of the laser cutter (obviously).
I went for some laser cut acrylic sunglasses and this ended up being a fantastic way to decorate pumpkins because I didn't need to hollow them out and they didn't rot nearly as quickly as a traditionally carved pumpkin would. They've been in the Makerspace for about two weeks and still look good as new. No rotting pumpkin goop to be found!

Cool project. Thanks for sharing! :)
Have you tried lasering the pumpkin directly? I did it a few years ago and raster engraving takes off the more opaque skin of the pumpkin so the light will partially shine/glow through. You can also run a vector cut like 20 times to cut through too. I did ironman (the arc reactor was cut all the way through) on a pie pumpkin sliced in half so it'd fit in a K40 laser.
I haven’t mainly bc I don’t want to get pumpkin guts in my laser cutter but I’ve seen others do it and been tempted :)
@@MakersWorkshopLLC fair enough, anything that you ablate/engrave just vaporizes. If you've got enough height to get a full pumpkin under the laser head you could "carve out the guts" after you laser it.
When I did mine, because I had to cut it in half I just laid down a piece of scrap plywood to keep the pumpkin from touching the laser case, but it still wasn't very messy.
Good to know. Maybe I’ll give it a go one of these days if I’m feeling like it :)
Do you have to drill? Can you just hammer the peg in?
Yep, you probably could. I just used the drill bc it was sitting right there
