  • Today I'm at the Makerspace laser cutting a lantern inspired by George Washington... more specifically the wallpaper from one of the guest bedrooms at Mount Vernon, his home.
Hospitality was a big part of day to day life at Mount Vernon, especially after the American Revolution when Washington became a world figure. The property saw an almost constant flow of both dinner guests and overnight guests who stayed in a range of guest rooms on the property. The volume of hospitality was possible only by the work of a multitude of butlers, cooks, housekeepers, farmers, tradespeople, and others, most of whom were enslaved.
Today I am recreating the wallpaper currently on display in the Yellow Room, a guest room once noted as having the nicest furnishings.
It's not the original pattern, but an educated guess as to what the Washingtons could have selected for the room. Enjoy :)

See, I personally think he’d love it bc Ham has long been an iconic product of Virginia. Served very often at Mount Vernon. Bacon too.
