Building Objects out of LIFE Magazine from 1960: …the WIBBLER?

  • I found this issue of LIFE Magazine from 1960 in a basement, brought it immediately over to the Makerspace, and relished every moment of flipping through its pages. I think it could be a cool series to recreate old objects from its pages, and the first object in question: the wibbler. Which appears to be an antique hover board of sorts?
I can’t wait to show you guys how this thing worked!

In the 70s, my grandparents got us some store-bought version of this -- and then just a couple of years later the skateboard craze arrived where we lived, and the same physical motion pays off more on a skateboard, sooo these things vanished completely in like a month. Still more fun (and safer!) than the pogo sticks we had.

at 13 I was driving an old Voxhaul Victor car around the disused open cast coal mine at th back of my house - we kicked the windows out for "safety"
I had to drive the wrong way up a dual carriageway to get there - waving at the neighbours as I went -- no one cared.
3 times this year people have called the police on my sister 16 year old for sitting on a bench listening to music on his ear buds - each time its old people who have moved to the village for their retirement.

I grew up driving the rear wheel drive car around the quarries so I have never not been able to drift a car, which became a big problem when I came to do my driving test.
