Outstanding
ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WITH A FULL BICEP TEAR WHO'S HAD THE INJURY A FEW YEARS HOW. BTW: I'm not yelling, I just capped everything to make my msg pop as I really am looking for answers. Thx
Very sensible approach. I’m getting good at a few specific exercises and I need to start changing up or alternating workouts- still do the heavyweight dips, but not every bench day. 😂
Can you substitute front squat for back squat? I struggle to do back squat
Yes
This was a great video! Very clear and specific. Super informative!
Thanks for your help
Distal bicep tear (complete) left arm back in Mar (2024); repair surgery a little over two weeks later. Cast, then brace (each for a few weeks). I have a few more months until near complete recovery; however, I have full range of motion now and some strength back. What help significantly, was working on my range of motion soon after the surgery. I did not take any pain medicine (post-surgery)…it subsided after about a week. I participate in physical therapy once a week. Both the [excellent] orthopedic surgeon and [excellent] physical therapist are kind of amazed at my progress. To everyone experiencing this, please keep a positive mental attitude…you can overcome it and get back to your normal life. The same mental strength helped me back in 1986 when I almost lost my leg…I was able to complete the remaining 12 years of a 20 year career in the U.S. Army. Good luck to all, God bless, and a huge thank you to the doctors and staff at the James Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida!
Thank you for the intel🏋🏻🏋♂️🦊
This need time stamps!
I’ve long been interested in conjugate but apprehensive to apply due to a lack of knowledge. This video has given me the confidence to jump in now!
Something I was using recently was an Upper - Lower - Full split. I thought it worked very well. Especially for an older guy at 54. Same principal I suppose, just more condensed and a little less volume per body part during the week. But Id say it averages out over a 2 week span... Just started reading Barbell Prescription, which I'll be using to navigate my program very soon. Thank you Andy.
I had to fight with the va to get the surgery. 6 weeks I was very descriptive and explained I needed an MRI and no one believed me. They tried to get me to go to physical therapy first and I refused but the nurse wrote in my chart that I agreed with that plan. I had to use private insurance.
Thank you
Would using your 852 progression on the first lift be appropriate here? And would you still stand by this upper lower routine?
Thank you that was very useful I just got the same injury 3 days ago and going tomorrow to set up the surgery hopefully on Saturday
I recently underwent bicep tendon surgery at the VA, and it was quite a different approach! Instead of a cast, they just put it in a sling for a couple of days. They encouraged me to move my arm freely, with some restrictions for the first month. After three months, I should be able to lift anything I want. The procedure involved two incisions, one in the forearm and another to reach the end of the bicep tendon. They needed the second incision because they couldn't reach the end of my biceps from the initial one, according to the doctor. It's not always necessary, but in my case, it was.
Would love to see some new videos...ive watched all the old ones multiple times
Thanks man I just had my pectoal major tendon repaired this helped!
Thanks for the info I just had the surgery and I was curious on what to expect in the upcoming weeks
I tore my left and I'm 2 weeks post op. I'm seeing a lot of comments of people saying they're on their 2nd tear on the other arm. Do I have that to look forward to if I start working out again? Is there an underlying issue that I can address to avoid that?
😬 I think he’s talking directly to me with overtraining
Thanks bro 28/3/24 ..
This is a great and informative video
How do I contact you for programming. Thanks

Hi Andy. I appreciate your video. I learned quite a bit. I'm at 12 weeks post OP. I am 66 years young and joining a Gym this coming week. I appreciate your advice on exercises for my rehab. My main goal is getting back on the Golf Course and being as active as I was pre injury. If you have any further advice it will be appreciated. Have a great day and good luck in your endeavors. Appreciate the video man, I’m going into surgery in a couple of days.
I'm nearing the end of my NLP and these videos are helpful. Thanks
Do you have your physical therapy protocol documented? I have ran into insurance issues out of the splint and have been having trouble figuring out what to do at home
Killswitch Engage adds +10 strength
Thank you.
Thank you for this. Had to wait 17 days for my surgery but am now one week post op. Needed to hear all of this right now more than you know. Being out of the gym is the hardest part for me mentally. Itching to start pt.
It's a long recovery mate - the first 6 weeks immobilisation is awful. I just hit 12 weeks post-surgery and have full supination/pronation back finally (pronation took much longer). After the first two weeks of doing nothing I started going back to the gym (wearing the sling) just to do *something* with the other arm and leg presses etc. I then did super light free weights work (1-2kg) with the injured arm from weeks 6-12, still massive muscle wastage. Apparently can taper the weight back up gradually now for the next 12 weeks. They say 6-12 months for 'full' recovery, I'm aiming for 6... Good luck with your recovery!
@tchpandy iam three weeks post op. I live in the uk. I am starting physiotherapy on Monday. How long does this pain and numbness last in the arm
@@Peter-sl6mf Hey mate, I'd say 'it depends' as everyone will be different. I only had very mild numbness in the top of the forearm, and this only lasted about 8 weeks. Most of my pain was gone at 3 months, occasionally it'd have some mild discomfort. Good luck getting started with physio (probably just assisted range of motion at this stage but it's important to get everything moving in a controlled manner) and your ongoing recovery!
@@tchpandy thank you for getting back to me Pandy. I was on a real downer last Thursday I don't do depression but I was down with it for two days. Quadruple heart bypass surgery last year off work for 7 months just getting back on my feet financially then 6 weeks ago slipped off the truck and snapped the tendon. Yes good to hear the numbness and pain will end in another 4 weeks. Are you glad you had the repair. Reading some other comments from patients they are doing OK. My consultant said I didn't need it. I could function.with.20% loss of power in my arm. Iam 62 a truck driver. The consultant said I could go straight back to work. But my social outlet is the 🏋️♂️ gym. Once again thank you for responding
@@Peter-sl6mfHi again mate, yes the mental side of it really knocked me around and ruined X-Mas/New Years/January/February. I am glad I had the surgery but it has been a very long 6 months. I am waiting for clearance for a full return to sport (indoor cricket) on Tuesday. I also wasn't allowed to drive for the initial 6 weeks as it had to stay in the splint/sling, perhaps rehab protocols treat this one differently in the UK? Anyway, there'll be small improvements for you each day, even though some days it'll give you aches/pains. Hang in there! -Andy
This was the so so so helpful thank you.
Hands down best video on how to set up a conjugate program
So an average of ten weeks
Hey Andy I’m a bjj athlete and I’ve currently got around 12KG of fat I need to get off as I’m fat to fat for my weight class (currently 95kg and 5 rep sets are: Squat - 100kg Bench - 77.5kg Deadlift - 140kg Press - 55kg Been doing the standard SS NLP but now things are getting super hard so wanted to move onto something like this. Instead of rotating the main lifts how you said are there any set / rep schemes you could follow keeping the main lifts (bench / squat / press / deadlift). I also don’t really want to do 5/3/1 as I’m not a fan.
Could something like this work ? (No DE work and changes chins / dips for rows or Lat pulls due to body fat): Also increasing main lift by 2.5KG per week Day 1 - Bench 3x5 BB Row 4x10 DB Incline Bench 3x10 Day 2 - Squat 3x5 Power Clean 5x3 Abs 3x1RIR Day 3 - Press 3x5 Lat Pull-Down 4x10 DB Bench 3x10 Day 4 - Deadlift 1x5 Light Squat 3x5 @ 80% Abs 3x1RIR
Do you think once a week for assistance is enough, for example 3 sets 8-12 reps on LTE's once a week, or should we try to fit each assistance exercise twice a week in our programs?
You're the man, just your content on CZcams alone has made my work outs so much better, thanks for putting this all out here for free! Underrated channel
Do you think chin ups pose a risk for bicep tears? I train chin ups hard frequently and now Im paranoid lol
Thank you!
Hi,I'm 3 weeks past the surgery, you give me the information and motivation i needed, still waiting to see my surgeon,I was wondering if the exercises had started or should i wait for my appointment, great video, thanks.
Great video, thanks
This video is odd. My doc is pretty big into this technique used for this injury and I was told to start PT 6 days after surgery. What kind of doctor says pt isn’t necessary? More so why was this guy told no movement at all for 5 weeks. You need to slowly get that tendon stretching along with pt for scarring. I’m so fortunate to have a good doctor and not what this guy had
That first example of TOO MUCH warmup was literally me in my 20's. Even the weight was exactly what I was using. I wish I knew this 30 years ago!
Did you still have pain when letting arm hang at 3 weeks ? Mine is pretty painful
No offense to this guy but Matt Wenning never says its only for very strong guys. Ill take his word over this guys. Sorry bud
I’m curious as to how this technique compares to Mark Rippetoes video about the row.
When wete you able to supinate pronate
