46 Seconds of Bunnyhop Attempts by a 42 Year Old

    IMO all of these turnkey lighting solutions have the same fatal flaw, lots of separate rechargeable batteries. Best thing I ever did on my eBike was add a switched 12v sub-system running off the 60v battery that powers everything except the motor.

      Oh yeah, of course. Ideally. If the controller had that option, i would've wanted that too but not going to swap out a bunch of components for turn signals. By contrast, I purchased an aftermarket headlight for the Xpedition you see here and it came with bare wires. I added a connector and just plugged it into the stock connector that was coming from the OEM controller. Works like stock. I love it.

    In Australia where I live, the limit is 250w as for most of Europe. The philosophy being that we are talking about bicycles with electric motor ASSISTANCE, not motorcycles that you can peddle. I live in a fairly hilly area, where I would have to get off and push a normal bike in some areas, but my 250w ebike allows me to climb these hills at 16 -20 kmh which is more than satisfactory. I pedal my bike on flatter roads without power unless there is a headwind or if I am tired, in a hurry etc. I get as much as 150km from a charge on flatter ground, and 60 -70km in hilly areas if I manage things well. This is very satisfactory for me. A throttle would be nice sometimes, but these are not permitted on public roads and paths where I live, but otherwise I am more than happy with my ebike.

      @@rymalia yeah I think that’s precisely the myth. Most folks want that but can’t really get away with it. I see a big influx of buyers regret coming up where people will start selling their used e-bikes. In most scenarios, people still need a car so it’s not fully a replacement and in the meantime, they’re still paying for registration/insurance. An ebike is a nice alternative to driving in certain cases but not quite a replacement for a car for most.

    I loved this video, especially the content related to the Plus 1 Chair. My husband installed the Chair as you have it, all the way back with a pad in front. For context, I’m 5’2”, small build. I took it for a test ride with my 6 year old, and boy was it squirrelly. The back-end fishtailed and overall, the bike was not easy to control. My husband tested it, and although he had better control, he agreed it was a bit squirrelly, even with an adult passenger. He moved the seat to option 2 and I re-tested. What a difference. The bike was no longer squirrelly and I had much better control and the ride felt so much safer. I do see why Lectric doesn’t promote that option. For a newer and maybe smaller rider, that option could be dangerous. One thing I do recommend. The bike mirrors. I like being able to see behind me, without having to turn back, especially when I have a small passenger. Overall, love this bike!

I’ve built two using Arrma cars and there great, particularly drifting in loose dirt. A lot more playing and less repairing. I found myself at the bench with my 3S cars for way too long. This week I swapped the rear brake pads on my Tern GSD by putting a stack of short 2x6’s under the kickstand to lift the rear of the bike off the ground and the whole time I was thinking about you flipping a cargo bike upside down to work on it. I don’t have anything bigger than a regular park work stand, but between that, sturdy kickstands and a little creativity, I’ve never needed to flip a cargo bike upside down. Strong advice though would be to never ever get a cargo bike without a super solid kickstand that will let you get wheels off the ground.

      You're probably reading about all the myths about charging only to 80%. That's not really a real thing for owners. It's just something people who are dabbling about EV's say. There is no way to limit the charging to a particular state of charge on the car side. Your home Level 2 charger may have a way to do it via WiFi. You'll want to charge to 100%.

    20 MPH is as fast as I want to go on most chinese hardware. Commodity ebikes really should be bought by people who can fix them. Brand name ebikes should be bought by people who can afford $100/hr shop rates.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric Před 21 dnem

      Agreed. Although all the hardware is Chinese made. It’s more about the brand that stands behind the product. I much prefer an American brand even if their products are likely made in China. You want American backing.

      @@Funcentric my $560 Viva FM20 will be delivered in a couple days. It will replace my $700 Ancheer mountain bike which was my first ebike. I learned a lot. You don't need or use 21 speeds with power. And my 70 year old body resents a hardtail. And smaller wheels and step over will be fine where I ride and be safer getting on and off. But my rides and yours are likely much different. What makes sense for me may not make sense for younger and taller folks. I can buy and use generic bikes because there is no part of them I can't fix, even the electronics or rebuild motors. It's like we exist in different worlds and certainly budgets. A good video nonetheless.

    These are all valid considerations, but as somebody with a kid and two dogs with a family total past 20k miles of cargo bike use and car ownership becoming a distant memory, I think the trade offs are very much worth it. Going on “nap rides” with my 10 month old in the front of the Packster 80 facing me while she slept is an unforgettable memory that is well worth the occasional parking challenges over the years. I’ve done panniers, let me tell you, putting a shopping cart full of groceries into a shopping cart shaped bike is living the dream. These days the bike getting the most miles is a Tern GSD, it’s a step through with parallel tubing that is easy to lock, and also easy to get serviced, and can be parked vertically to save space (or for maintenance!). Also, my bikes all live outside, but under a roof, and they’re doing fine other than seasonal problems like pollen and ash.

  • @ccederlo
    @ccederlo Před 26 dny

    Thanks for this honest take on cargo bikes. It's a little too late for me, I'm a bit anxious about the maintenance logistics, and we'll see what happens! Seems like even basic maintenance of changing a rear tire in the case of a flat is going to be real rough. What to do when out on a ride and that happens?! Hopefully someone can pick me up 😅. Perhaps I'll lock the bike somewhere, call an Uber and drive back to pick up the bike. I plan to get a motorcycle rack for shop maintenance trips, but gah, another rack. Oh well, it's just stuff and thankfully I do have the space. I have hope that my Aventon Abound will still be useful for my cargo plans (Costco shopping among others, haha) and upon further thought, I don't see another good method. I like the idea of a trailer as it adds flexibility and options across the board. However, I fear the safety risks with the trailer. In any case, I'll use my cargo bike as an opportunity to learn. If all else fails, I can sell the equipment and be back at the start again with a more wisdom and perhaps just a little less money.
