I did this to my old Bolton bike (now Area 13 bike) by learning from Jerimiah Macintosh's channel. It was pretty easy but I've since had a stroke so my tinkering skills are null at the moment
Oh man, sorry to hear! Glad you're doing okay now though. Yeah, the 14-34T was from an old bike. I did the swap from the 11-28T b/c I was desperate for low gears and did have to sacrifice my high gears. So now with the 11-34T, no compromise!

great job. i just installed the tannus inserts on my expedition and changing that rear wheel was a BEAST! turning the bike upside down is a MUST DO!
Awesome! Can you say a few words about the range and performance differences with the Tannus inserts?
@@Funcentric i haven't tested the range yet, but performance wise, i can run much lower tire pressure which makes for a much more comfy ride!

I live in a hilly area and did this mod, too - so much better climbing steep hills! 👍 The 34-tooth low gear makes the bike more usable as a pedal-only bike (with zero pedal assist) when I want a real workout!
Great video: very helpful with great camerawork and clear, complete explanations. Minor suggestion: grease freewheel threads; makes future removal a bit easier.

I just did this to my XPedition and the tip about the grease is a good one. If I didn't have a 36 inch long breaker bar that gear assembly would have never came off but having watched the videos and read the comments I made sure to get grease for the threads as I don't want to have to put in a bunch of effort if I end up not liking this mod.
Also for those who would rather use a socket instead of an adjustable wrench it's 1 inch socket that you will need. A 26mm will also work but it's not as snug

Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it! Someone told me that I may have gotten the socket wrench sizing wrong. It did work for me but possibly too large is what I was told. Just fyi.
@@Funcentric I’d like to change the free when to increase top speed instead. What free wheel do you recommend if any?
@@raulh7814 you will not be able to do that because the highest gear is an 11 tooth and there is nothing beyond that. If you’re OK sacrificing low gear, you can change the chain ring.
You can change the 52 tooth to something larger like 54T or 56t. All your gearing will increase though, so you will not have as low of a gear as before. Personally, I think hillclimbing is more important than speed. You will likely need to lengthen the chain though if you go with a chain ring too big.
This was a great video and thanks for providing the details on what to buy. I would not have tried this had you not made this video. It took me under an hour to change the gearing, install a new rotor and pads as well as replace the worn tire, install a tube protector, a new tube with 7.2oz of slime and get it assembled. I did have to make some slight adjustments to the derailers set screws but another person posted a fantastic video on how to adjust them and I had it tuned in quickly

Great video and tutorial! Would likely be challenging, but getting some riding footage of the new setup compared to the old would be great! Just so folks could really see the difference this change makes. I climb a 7.5% grade every morning, but so far, the 3.0, XPedition, and Trike we three ride all seem to do pretty well with it. On hot days, the Trike does flash HOT after about 3.5 miles though. Wish there was some better heat dissipation for the controller.
I wouldn’t recommend it if it’s doing well for you as is. But as long as you don’t rush the installation and have all the tools, you should be fine with the replacement if you do ever decide to do it.
oh also, i would maybe throw some grease on the freehub/cassette threads. makes getting it off in the future a little easier
Yes! Someone recommended that to me too! Smart idea. I should’ve done that. Last time I had changed freewheels prior to this bike was literally 10+ years ago on a recumbent trike
So I'm a 5'5" lady and on the lowest seat setting I'm on my tippy toes. It's so crazy. And the handle bars are an uncomfortable distance. My fingers go numb. I haven't found any videos on flipping the handle. Anyway my boys and I have been loving riding it so far.
Yeah, the seat height is high for me too. Im 5’-7”. The handlebars should be able to adjust towards you quite a bit. If your fingers go numb, it could be that the levers are too high. I have a video on that as well.
A video of before and after of hill climb would have been a good add to video with similar loads and such
I don’t really have the equipment to be able to show that effectively. Going up for teeth is quite drastic. 34T is the biggest cog you can go for a 7 speed.

I've kinda toyed with the idea of a dual motor setup too, but decided in the end it was too heavy. I may eventually get the Yadea Trooper dual motor. Comes out next year. I don't know enough about implementing a second motor to be of any value to you. Sorry bud.

@@Funcentric I've been thinking the same motor. If I must, I'll save the freewheel gears for when these go bad. I've found a 48volt, 14 amp hour water bottle style battery and set it up without a controller. Thumb throttle only. I've got a hilltopper unit on a ride1 already set up that way. I'm just not to keen on relacing yet. My alternative is a 2 1/2" setup I've seen.

Can this be applied to the XP3.0 STEPTHRU ?
Yes! Just make sure you get a freewheel and not a cassette. Replacing the gear is the same as most entry level bikes. Higher end and newer bikes use cassettes.
Are those torque plates the old ones or upgraded ones? Looks old to me..
Torque arms are stock. About a month old. They’re not worn. What makes you feel they are old?
The torque plates that are both silver are known to causes issues. Saw a bunch of posts on Reddit about people having them fail. Some poor person has been dealing with Lectric support and even after getting treated like trash from Lectric this person bought a second one so he would have a bike for the months long repair/replace from Lectric. People with a black plate and a silver plate, that are mounted different and are thicker are not having the same issues.
Mine are black and silver so I think I'm good. Also that free wheel remover tool you didn't provide a link for where can I get one?

Hi, I’m planning to buy an Xpedition and am wondering if shipping time was prompt? I’ve seen some comments on other reviews that said they didn’t receive theirs and it has been five months since purchase. I own an Aventon Level and looked at the Abound but I want Class 3 capability, the Abound tops out at 20mph. Dual batteries and the Class 3 capability are the reason I want this model but not if it takes forever to receive it.
LECTRIC Offered the $1000.00 Challenge.. if you find a Road or Street that it won't climb... MAKE A VIDEO OF YOUR EXPEDITION NOT CLIMBING A HILL ... SOMETHING IS NOT WITH YOUR BIKE OR YOU MUST BE WANTING TO GO UP AT FULL SPEED LIKE YOU'RE ON FLAT LEVEL GROUND.... SOMETHING IS AMISS HERE WITH YOUR CLAIM.
It can climb it, but barely and straight up dangerous with load (which is expected on a cargo bike designed to hold....cargo). Glad I put the new freewheel on for sure. Again, likely you're not really climbing real hills. If you haven't gone much else outside of Ohio, you are probably just running along little inclines. That's okay - not your fault. You can't control the terrain and elevation changes. Most states across the country don't have actual hills.
Flat level speed isn't necessary but I do need to go about 10mph to keep stable with load. 5-8mph gets sketchy.
I definitely won't be uninstalling my new freewheel, install the original just to prove to you what I already know. I'm not out to prove anything to anyone. Just loading videos to help people who care. Sounds like you're not one of them so that's okay. Just keep moving along.
I'm at Max weight capacity... My Xpedition NEVER Has had a problem climbing ANY Hill And I Live in a VERY very Hilly County with Long Steep roads And Walk & Bike Paths...HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH? HOW FAST DO YOU WANNA GO UP A HILL??? Something isn't right with your story..I'm Straight out Calling B.S.💩💯% !!!
I can only report what I experience. I weigh 155-160lbs and would want to go up a hill at least 10mph to keep stable. Likely your hills aren't really hills. That's okay. Most people haven't really come across hills. Every "hill" I see on youtube is like a tiny incline. When I say hill, I mean an actual hill.
