So just hoping to help out at least a few people from making the mistake of getting something way too big and way too heavy for their needs or to expect too much out of whatever they're buying. Great video - I made sure to give you a thumbs up. I have a Lite and from 1st hand experience I can say it's a great grocery getter. I have a rear rack and Bushwacker panniers - they work great. The extra weight isn't enough to make a difference, even when loaded. I also have an extra battery, and again I would recommend it. I have one on the bike and one on the charger. I never have to wait to charge, I can always just get on and go. If anyone is looking for an ebike that is user friendly, doesn't weigh a lot, and doesn't require a hitch and rack, the Lite is a great option.

    I have an XP Lite that I use when RVing, storing it folded in the back of my Jeep, all towed behind my 35' Class A motorhome. Real world on flat trails, I get 30 miles range. I'm 76 years old and found that it was getting too strenuous to lift my old Juiced Oceancurrent ebike on the heavy Hollywood rack on the back of the motorhome. (The rack was even higher on top of a splitter that had the car's towbar attached to the bottom. I'd often move the rack to the Jeep when settled.) I've gotten used to its one gear and even rode it all around the Vancouver, BC harbor area without the motor because the controller stopped working, but had to walk it up the Lion's Gate Bridge incline from North Vancouver. Now that I replaced the warranty controller, the bike rides great.

    I was thinking of getting the Lite model because of its lighter weight and because it fits all of the things for my use that you described, especially being able to lift it to and from my SUV’s trunk. I do plan on taking it places at times in my SUV or by riding the e-bike on flat surfaces. However, you stumped me when you recommended not getting a second battery. I plan on doing some lengthier e-bike outings at times (like I used to do when I was younger in age with a regular bike.) I’m 70 and still ride my regular bike but it’s gotten
    harder for me to go on outings. My thinking has been I would purchase and when needed attach a rear carrier rack over the rear tire of the Lite for those outings, one as lightweight as possible, to carry with me a second battery when needed. When I would not be going on a longer outing, I would take the rear carrier off and not carry an extra battery. I only weigh 135 lbs I can’t imagine once in awhile adding a temporary rear carrier with an extra Lite battery with a light cover around it would significantly detract from the bike’s handling…when the bike is made for others who weigh a lot more than me. Is my thinking rational that in my case I am someone who possibly could carry an extra battery without any drawback? I look forward to your opinion. -Jeff

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před rokem +4

      Lite sounds like a good match. If hauling a carrier isn't going to be the norm and just an every now and then scenario, and all else fits perfectly, I would have no hesitation.
      Think of it like a city dweller with a Honda Fit and takes it to the snow. Surely, he'd be better off with a 4WD SUV for those outings to the snow. But 95% of the time, he's in a non snowy city looking for parking where a large car would be a huge drawback. I'd say decide on a ride for the best use case that you'll anticipate for a majority of the rides and you'll just make do with the minority scenarios.
      I drive an i3 electric car and people laugh at the range of 73mi. But I drive way less than that daily and parking is a breeze. I'd hate to have a heavier (worse handling), more expensive car I can barely afford that's too big for parking spaces in the City just so I can make the occasional 100mi + trip. If I'm going somewhere far like 500 mi away, I have zero issue spending the money I saved in ownership of the used car and renting a car for the 1% of the time I go on long trips.
      I think the same is with you. If the Lite fits a vast majority of your needs and in the best way possible, don't worry about the minority scenarios.
      If you do get a second battery and carry it with you, just be prepared for lower performance due to the weight itself and the distribution. You'd also have to charge twice unless you plan to have two chargers to charge them both at once. Remember though, you also have to store the battery. They don't do well sitting around charged or uncharged (ideally 70%). So you maintaining the battery is something to consider. You'd probably end up swapping batteries regularly to keep them each in use even when your trip only requires 1 battery. A second battery is more of a headache to deal with than you might anticipate.
      Coming from a guy who owns dozens of different sized batteries for various drones and rc cars. If you're up for the task of maintenance and storage, go for it. Just don't forget to think about that. Majority of the time, the battery won't be in use, so storage and maintenance is a big deal. No one talks about it b/c it doesn't get youtube views and doesn't sell well. But that's the truth.

    This is really good, thank you. You mention the weight of the premium. But what about for the 3.0, is the weight going to seem heavy, as compared to the lite. Seems you're saying if you are going to use the bike as a regular bike at times the lite is the way to go (because of the weight) even though you have seven gears on the 3.0, is that correct?

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před 8 měsíci

      Great, glad it was helpful. The 3.0 is like most budget ebikes in this category these days and weigh 60-70lbs. The Lite is significantly lighter and is closer to a weight of a heavy regular mountain bike. I would highly advise against trying to ride any ebike with more than 10ah as a regular bike. These are really meant for PAS to be used. Riding on PAS 0 to start off is a myth and can be quite dangerous. Two wheeled vehicles will have the most stability at speed. When you have something heavy like this, the tipping point will really cause the bike to collapse and it's much harder to get back to center.
      You will max out quicker on climbs not only b/c of the lack of gearing on the Lite but also the motor size, torque and overall it's not meant to be a hill climber.

      A few reasons why Radpower Radwagon is objectively worse in comparison. Proprietary tire size is the main one which limits the choices and makes replacements for maintenance or repair difficult. Center of gravity is higher which makes the learning curve that much more difficult. It is known to have the spring prematurely break as I’ve seen many owners complain about.
      Other reasons XPedition is far superior but those are just some of the objective ones.

I finally bought the Premium and am I ever glad I did. I just love how whisper quiet it is while it is delivering its smooth power assist. And the range is so awesome. Yes, it is a heavy bike and I do regularly lift it and put it in the back of my Ford Flex. But the extra weight of an e-bike is so worth it to me. I used to load in my Trek bicycle but I wouldn't ride very long before I was ready to go back to the car and load it up. Now with my Premium I can ride and ride and I feel years younger with my energy level. I usually ride in Pedal Assist 3 and ride for hours and hours. I can ride multiple times before I even have to think about recharging the batteries. I also think the 4 inch tires are needed because some of the roads have broken glass and metal debris to ride over. And sometimes you get going pretty fast downhill. I am really glad the bike feels so stable traveling at those speeds and knowing you have very strong and capable hydraulic brakes to stop you when you need them.

      Yes i did forget to talk more about that. I don’t really recommend the premium to anyone. It was Lectric’s way of feeling the waters. It’s their slowest selling model. Really way too heat and too big. Even the people who have it don’t want it.
      Most ebike buyers these days are new to cycling. They’re not going to have the best experience with a cheap mid drive and wouldn’t know how to appreciate it. Anyone looking to get a mid drive should probably look at other brands.

    So I called the company a couple times I'm wondering about the handlebars they seem pretty far away. So they said all you could just go ahead and buy an aftermarket bar. And the other thing is the return policy is very very very very very very strict so I'm having a problem with even considering buying this bike. I'm in Orlando they said you could go rent one in the in the Palm Coast that's ridiculous so I'm going to go to Palm Coast here in Florida to rent a bike that I might buy

    • @Funcentric

      Return policy is the pretty much the same with all the companies. You have the best luck with an American company so it may not be "the best", but it's the best relative to what's available.
      Yes you can also get a new stem to move the existing bar closer to you. The reach should be pretty generic and fit most people though.
      Ridiculous to rent a bike as a test ride? Not sure I understand.

    I agree with most points made here. But fat tires may not be a trend. They act as cheap suspension for smaller bumps in the road (especially if not over inflated). Also they give you better performance in snow, loose dirt, sand etc. Also they are less likely to get stuck in obstacles in the road. One of my worst bike accidents ever was when my hybrid bike front tire got stuck in a grate and I flew over the handlebars :(. That wouldn't have happened on a fat tire.
    Edit: Also, the added weight of an additional battery isn't a big deal. The total weight my bike, myself, and equipment altogether is over 300 lbs. Do you really think an added 9 lbs is going to make a big difference in range?

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před 5 měsíci

      I think 2.75-3” would be a good compromise for size to address the environment you’re talking about. Most people aren’t going to be riding e-bikes on snow however.
      There’s definitely a place for particular bikes of certain specs for certain use cases but most people are just riding in the city. No dirt, no gravel, no snow.

      @@yogiyoda Yes. The battery needs to carry its own weight before you'll see any improvement in range. Highly inefficient. Same as a full sized electric vehicle. The bigger the battery, the less efficient. It's like having a 25gallon gas tank except gas burns and gets lighter whereas a battery does not.

    • @Funcentric

      No, that’s not how the process works. Companies license the design and work with manufacturers to customize them. The Lectric controller has a custom tune. Many American companies do include Juiced. Also American companies oversee quality control and have American standards. That’s why we buy from them instead of the junk from Amazon.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před 11 měsíci

      No you can’t. It has it carry its own weight before you see a difference. It gets less efficient. You can double the range only if the battery weighed nothing. Same principle with EV’s. It’s not really anything to agree or disagree about. Just physics.

I would be weary of China brands. You want an American company as a second layer of protection and service. China won’t do quality control on their own. Glad it helped. Sounds like you have your eyes set on a Lite then or completely other brand. Sometimes the best way to find what you want is to identify what you don't want. The 3.0 I'm sure you have determined will be way too heavy. In your daughter's situation, it seems the weight is a bigger priority than the utility. So maybe light storage on a rear rack with the Lite.
      FYI, if you have your eyes on the Costco Jetson Haze, just know it's 36v. All the Jetson bikes are 36v I believe which will be quite underwhelming as far as performance is concerned. But if small package is what she needs, maybe she can find a way to test one out.

Another reviewer speaks highly of the OneBot and they look interesting (the normal tires not fat tires). Anything over 3 is ridiculous and even past 2.5 is unnecessary.
