Why You Should Build a 2S Arrma RC Car For More Than The Price Of A Stock 3S

  • If you’re stuck wondering whether to buy a 2S and mod it or get a 3S BLX, there are a few things to consider. Short answer is that a 2S build is way more RELIABLE than a stock 3S car.
    0:30 Do you want to build a 2S or buy a 3S?
    0:49 Mega sucks
    1:49 Recommended cars for kids
    2:15 Do not keep a Mega Stock
    2:21 Condition upon which to buy a Mega
    3:15 Do you like wenching on cars?
    4:17 Who is the 3S really for?
    4:50 How slow / fast is the 2S?
    6:16 My build for a 2S Senton: 57T spur with 18T or 21T 32p pinion. Surpass Rocket 3660 4300kv motor, Max10 SCT. Stock receiver/transmitter.
    7:08 Why 2S over 4S?
    8:02 Would I get a 2S car or 3S car if I had to go back in time?
    8:27 2S first or 3S first? You know you will end up with both.

    You have such a pragmatic approach to an obsessive hobby. I wish I was as disciplined as you!! And I agree that 2s can be very fun! I swapped out the stock Senton 3s motor to a 3900kv and run 2S packs. Tires do not become unglued and it takes some decent jumps 💪

      Haha, thanks for your compliments. Just trying to be real as I suspect most people watching CZcams are trying to balance practical with fun but also with a sense of budget and value.
      Not everyone wants to get super deep into everything but enough to have fun and learn something. I’ve learned a lot about designing power systems from these cars.

    I upgraded my Arrma Mega to a 3s brushless and I put a 19 tooth pinion and it hits 36 mph and that's ENOUGH speed lol it's an animal. Speed is not everything. My Mega goes fast enough for the alley ways and streets in my neighborhood. Good video bro!

      Sweet. Nice to find the sweet spot for whatever speed you're looking for. I find 40mph quite nuts and takes way too much space to even get it that far w/o hurting anyone. Which Mega did you mod?

      @@Funcentric yea 40mph is crazy if you don't have the space. I started the RC hobby last year and I bought the Green Arrma Typhon. I bumped it up to a 2s lipo and then a Spectrum brushless motor and ESC combo. Then I bought the 3s Lipo. 19 tooth Pinion and it rips lol

      Thanks! Sometimes I can’t tell if people get too impatient with the long ones. I try not to repeat myself but catch myself doing it. Just trying to reiterate important parts I guess. Hope the video helped.

    Very interested in a follow up video on a 2s build. Bought 2 Senton megas with this exact idea. Tons of videos about motors and kv ratings but not much on this specific topic. Thanks for the info.

    These Arrmas do look very well designed and built.

    For 4s? I would do Drag Racing. That is more fun than going back and Forth. I have the cones for it. So possibly? I may get me Street Stock Arrma and make some Drag racing. I have cones and lights. But doesn't have the tree lights which is fine and I can make the end of the line Which ever works for me

    I got the brushed 4x4 senton and put a castle short course setup in it and it's absolutely insane. I've shredded a couple tires and broke an arm but for the most part it's been pretty tough. The diffs are pretty upset, I'll have to address those soon. The money I spent I could have bought many other cars but it's what I wanted. Moral of the story... do what makes you happy lol

      Yes, learning what your car is capable of (and not) is part of the discovery experience.

    I dont agree here go 3s an lower speed from radio to 50 or 75 percent till you become very good if needed. 2S GR8 if running 4000kv.Get 2wd to keep costs down if needed

    what about getting a 3S and just running it on 2S for less wear and tear?

    • @mauriceharvey4300
      @mauriceharvey4300 Před rokem +1

      I was about to ask the same question. The Arrma 3S range will run on 2S I'm guessing, they'll just be a bit slower?

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před rokem +2

      I should’ve addressed that in the video but will make a new one. For designing power systems whether it be a mn rc car or drone, high kv goes with low voltage and low kv goes with high voltage.
      If you match a 2S on a 3S car, you’ve running low voltage on a low kv motor which will feel very laggy.
      The 2S system you’d build from an Arrma mega would be designed specifically as a 2S rig with much higher kv motor than what’s in the 3S BLX stock.
      In other words, a 2S built correctly will outperform a 3S on 2S power by a long shot.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před rokem +2

      @@mauriceharvey4300 not just slower, but laggy. The kv rating of the motor on the 3S blx is much too low compared to what you’d have ideally on a 2S build.
      High voltage goes with low kv.
      Low voltage goes with high kv.
      2S on a 3S BLX would be low voltage on low kv which will be very very underwhelming. Definitely not the same as a car built specifically as a 2S performer.

    • @mauriceharvey4300
      @mauriceharvey4300 Před rokem +2

      @@Funcentric Thank you very much for your explanation. I didn't know about kv ratings and voltages, etc. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

    • @Funcentric
      @Funcentric  Před rokem +1

      @@mauriceharvey4300 Sure thing. 2S in this particular application will still operate. It is not harmful. I do have another video about the math behind it all. Each battery has an amperage rating which needs to be HIGHER than what’s being drawn by the motor. In the case with the 2S and the motor on the 3S BLX, it’s fine. Again, performance will just kinda suck.
