  • UPDATE/WARNING: the ISDT K1 does NOT have a storage charging feature. Very unusual for a $100 charger. I still do recommend the Hota D6 Duo Peo for the high end dual channel charger.

Criteria for your first hobby grade charger starts with not buying the SkyRC iMax B6. It was good 10 years ago but we have lots better stuff at the same prices these days and you won’t be stuck with an unsafe unreliable knockoff. Chargers have come a long way since the obsolete stuff. It's worth exploring to find something good that will suite your needs. NOTE: Wattage specs for chargers will be different between AC vs DC. DC allows more and that's why people pair them with external power sources.

Building a 1960s trike into a e-bike + matching camper. Thank you for making REAL reviews!

Sure! Yeah I got tired of all the “reviews” disguised as ads and figured I’d do something about it. Glad the video helped.
For ebike batteries though, you’ll likely need something else. I use OHRIJA chargers from AliExpress to charge my various e-bikes. Sounds sketchy I know but the quality is very good. Internal fan and metal exterior casing for dissipating heat. Be sure to choose the right plug connector, battery connector and you do get to choose your metal casing color.

Thanks! Glad it helped. Please note that I recently was informed that the K1 does not have a storage charge mode! I put it in the description, but wanted to mention it in case you missed it. Was very surprised to hear that. Storage mode is an important feature you don't want to overlook. It was so important that I just assumed a near $100 charger would have that no questions asked, but I was wrong.

Your assistant is a cutie! Any new i3 videos in the works? We have a 2018 BEV that will be 4 years old come September and I'm wondering if the 12 volt battery should be proactively replaced. Thanks.

Yes, filming i3 videos. Editing them currently. Yes, I would replace the 12v. You’re in the 3-5 year mark and getting stranded with a failed 12v would be a catastrophe.

3:20 i did that ONCE, or rather the opposite. my balance port is right below the banana plug so i unplugged the banana plug so its easier to unplug the balance lead. all it took with a 4s battery is literally a split second and 2 prong type things on one banana plug melted and the battery got way warmer than i ever want to feel a lipo get. actaully today i almost did it again. i unplugged one banana plug and caught myself before i got the other. not even a newbie, been playing with electric cars since 2010

Yeah, the banana plugs inherently aren't the safest. Very old school. For people who have chargers like that, I think it's fine but I definitely wouldn't recommend going out and buying a 12 year old charger in 2022.

9:05 considering horizon owns at least half the brands i would hardly say xt60 (even if you were including xt90) is the standard connector for rc cars. dont think horizon products have xt anything on any of their cars. also just because your charger has a xt60 doesnt mean your car, and in turn your battery, has to have an xt60.

True on all accounts. I do think though that it would be good to have some sort of standard in the inventory of batteries, whatever that ends up being. That way the batteries can be used amongst different cars.
All the chargers I would personally get do have XT60 as an input for field charging, so I would prefer XT60 if possible.
I do have a handful of Arrma cars with EC3's and EC5's and would never switch those over to XT60 due to the amp rating. But overall having some sort of idea of consistency is helpful personally.
The battery does need to have an amp rating of equal to or higher than the ESC if it's not the same type.
