I am glad it helps!!!
I am a noob to the rc world. dude this video is thorough. thanks for the great content.
Glad it was helpful!
Welcome to the RC hobby!
You’ve probably been getting this comment for years now…. But thanks for the video. I found it very informative, I’ve been out of the hobby for about 15 years and getting back into it with my son.
Glad it was helpful!
Just the info this newb was looking for. Cheers mate
Glad to help!
Let me know if you have other questions!
First drift day today and it was a success. Thanks for all your tips. Had the usual 'first day out issues' but nothing the group could not solve. Correct battery charging was one of them.
Glad it was a success!!! Hope you continue to enjoy it!
Fantastic job on the video 😎👍 I think you covered it all and I agree 100% with everything you said. Even though I think I know enough about lipos, I really enjoyed the video and gave it a full watch. Very informative and thorough. I saved this to my lipo playlist which ins't public just yet.
I really do appreciate the feedback Scott.
I am always nervous when I put these videos out - who am I to claim I know about all of this? :)
Still - I kept seeing all of these messages of people asking how to choose a lipo and charger...so making a video was easier than continuing to type it out!
@@RoadsideRC I always get a little nervous with this type of video as well. Actually I get nervous every time I turn the camera on and never stick to my notes lol. You did a great great job
Excellent video. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Like rc college for a newbie like me. THANK YOU for all this great info !
Yes! Glad it was helpful.
Feel free to ask questions if you have them along the way.
That was cool to watch thank you for sharing it with us
Glad you enjoyed it
lots of great info,great video
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you this helped me a ton :D
Great!
Glad to hear it!
very informative video bud. Good on you
Thanks 👍
I really hope it helps some folks out there!
Thank you! I know this video is a year old. Just getting started with Lipo’s with my first brushless the Arrma Typhon 3s. I went through the Traxxas lineup. I appreciate your video and it answered a lot of questions. Prophet maxes at 4a and I have 5000 mah 3s’s so I guess I’m going to be waiting awhile to bash hahaha thanks again
Glad this was helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Hello Troy, I think your vid has been the most helpful to me out of all the ones out there. I am brand new to the hobby and too many other videos fail to explain things on my level. They all talk too fast and assume that we all know something already. I can't learn it right that way. Anyway, I just purchased a 1/6 scale Rochobby Jeep and I went and got a 5200 Mah 2s 35c for it. I think that is a good starter one don't you? I put it in the jeep and went outside in the yard and had a ball, I'm hooked! I only ran it about 20 min.so I don't know how fast these batteries drain but I kept it in the jeep as I will go out tomorrow and play some more. I am waiting for a battery checker to come tomorrow. I will be kind of nervous charging the battery the first time. Wish me luck. Keep up the great work teach!
Thank you! Very glad this was helpful - I appreciate that feedback.
After you get comfortable, I think that truck will handle a 3S battery also, so you could get a little more power and speed from it.
I feel like I’m in battery class😂😂😂😂
Nice video man keep it up!
Ha! Someone needs to be in school! I know my kids aren't! :)
good tips about the batteries mate

great content im trying to charge a battery for a micro drift its a protek lipo 2s with a umx connector i cant find anyhthing to charge it
Connector like this?
E-flite Battery Connector Wire 1S UMX EFLU3052 Replacement Airplane Parts a.co/d/8HfAaRu
Any lipo charger will charge it. It is just about finding the right charging lead to connect it.
Roadside RC I use a Ev- peak 50w 4.0amp fast charger to charge all my batterys it can charge a 2s 3s 4s and that's it I bought it October 3rd 2018 been using it ever sense with no problems and my Lipo batterys I use are floureon, hexfly, powerhobby, Gens ace, and they all have dean's connector people say dean's ain't really good I love em. I've never used ovonic or goldbat, but have heard good things about them tho, are they really good ? Thanks for sharing the video 👊👍
Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear the EV-peak has been doing well for you.
I personally stay away from dean's connectors - but have to admit that they do the job in a very small space. That is the one issue with the XT90 plugs I use - they are HUGE! :)
Hello, I was just wondering if charging with a too high wattage is bad for the battery? Good vid
Yes. You really want to stay around that 1C charge rate.
Ex:
2000mah battery = 2A
4000mah battery = 4A
Hiya. I just got a EVP Charger Discharger 4way. Would you do a tutorial on how to use it properly please?
Does this help?

My kids just upgraded to a couple 2S Ovonic batteries on the Traxxas ID EZ Peak charger. Charging balanced and at 1A charge rate to try and keep it safe. What amount of time on the charger would you recommend for these?
There isn't a right amount of time when charging a lipo. When on balance charge, the charger will monitor each cell and bring each one to 4.2V/cell. It is limited by the battery, not by a stopwatch. The charger will automatically stop whenever it is done.
No real reason to limit yourself to 1A charge rate. If the battery is a 3000mah = charge at 3A, if it is 4000mah = charge at 4A...etc.
What’s the best cheap charger for a 2s lipo, I just ordered a wltoys 144001. New to the hobby starting pretty cheap to see how into it I might get.
I would suggest you pick from one of the ones I suggested. That dynamite is literally less than $30 on Amazon right now. However, I really do suggest that HTRC charger I showed.
Bro I love your fucking attitude I was feeling so stressed about batteries and like I wasted so much money and stuff and bro your video just calmed me down I fucking love you
Awesome! Glad to hear it. Let me know if there is any other questions I can help you with.
@@RoadsideRC do you have a playlist for RC beginners?
@@Alphabet7 Hmm...I do not. My playlists are by genre and vehicle. Thanks for the idea!
@@RoadsideRC oh ok your video was quite well made. I bought a htrc 150w.
FLOUREON my favorite battery
They have done OK for me. Never puffed one, but had 2-3 of them unsolder the wires from the pack.
So the one on Sakura d5 is the short pack ovarion isn’t? Thanks 🙏
Yes, I run shorty lipos for my drift cars.
I’m an RC dad! My son is only 8 months though! What age would you think he will be ready and what models would you recommend?
I started my kids at 4 and 7 I believe.
The youngest ran a brushed Stampede. That was just about right. I would suggest going with something like the Arrma Granite Mega, or getting the BLX brushless version, but REALLY slowing it down.
Either that or something like a crawler.
I'm new to lipo charging and i have the dynamite charger that you showed in the video. i have a starter box lipo from ultimate rc that is a 14.8v 2500mah 20c lipo. what charging amp should i charge that at? I do believe it's a 4s lipo.
2500mah = 2.5A charging rate. You can always charge slower as well.
@@RoadsideRC thank you so much. I will definitely save your video for a reference 👊🏾. New subscriber on board.
@@favulus1 Thank you!
what charger should i use for the povway5000?
I suggest this one:
amzn.to/3r2qEym
My battery is 9.6V 11.7Ah LiFePo4. It is 27 cell battery. What setting should i use please. I keep getting low voltage or high voltage. What setting should i charge it? What should my mAh and V be on my charger? Please help.
I am not familiar with that type of battery, sorry.
how does it wwork to discharge
i have the prophet50w mini sport \
This charger has settings for charge / balance charge / storage charge / discharge. You select what you want and it does it.
please can you tell me how i battery charge How do i charge the battery?
You sent video
You plug in both plugs, put the charger on balance, and let it charge. That is the simple answer.
Is there any particular reason you use xt90’s over ec5 / ic5? I had deans on a redcat and switched to xt90, because deans can’t handle high current. Since then I started buying arrmas, and switched the redcat to ec5 to match all my arrma lipos. Seeing I have mostly arrmas, I’ve left all my connectors ec5 as to not void the warranty. I have soldering skills and could easily change them. But curious if there is any benefit to xt90 over ec5 / ic5 that makes voiding the warranty worth it.
I don't believe there is a benefit XT90 vs EC5. I think you are good to go!
It's probably more of an issue for us weirdo's who run stuff smaller than 1/10, but a battery larger than your tray is likely also too heavy. You'll end up blowing out shocks, stripping gears, etc... from that extra weight in your chassis.
Great point!
I have a few vehicles where the weight of the battery does matter.
Thanks for adding that.
can u use that charger to discharge
Yes!
@@RoadsideRC how does it work to discharge
What about bullet plugs batteries??
What about them?
@@RoadsideRC
Do u charge them the same way that u would charge any other battery??
@@RoadsideRC
I just got into rc cars. Im a noob.
@@lukerecore3211 Yes, the only difference is the connector style.
@@RoadsideRC
And may I ask how to charge the batteries with the bullet connected??
Sorry. I have bad ADHD and couldn't absorb this info. If I cared only about speed. Not run time. What number do I want to be the highest? MaH, C, S, V?
Sorry - it is a LOT of information all at the same time.
Top speed is going to be mostly from Voltage / cell count - your V & S.
Then, next in importance would be MaH and C.
We need update 2023 thanks
Good idea! Thank you.
you should know golbat battery has fake c current 50C 60C 80C And 5000MAH 6000 7000 ALL THE SAME no different the weight and size for the price they are good
Honestly, I don't believe the C-rating on any batteries.
80 watt charger should work more than sufficient. The safest way to charge All Lipo’s I don’t care what the rating is is at a 1c rate. You can charge higher than that but the battery will deteriorate a lot faster. Also never store a battery fully charged even for a week it will degrade the life of the battery. If you’re storing Lipo is 50% charge. Also it is in your best interest to always use a balance charger or once again you are degrading the life of the battery.
I agree
First
Looks like it.
Still relevant today?
Yes! Any questions about any specific parts of it?
@@RoadsideRC I need to order a battery and charger for the trx4 chassis kit, I'm still a little confused. Is there a link or source of some batteries and a charger, and do I need to splice in an adapter? Do you have a source or link for that? Thank you so much!
@Cranklotus Yes! Happy to make this really easy for you:
Charger I highly recommend: amzn.to/3S0D4BQ
You will want a 3S lipo, like this one: amzn.to/48yWtiS
If you are comfortable soldering (a GREAT skill to have with this hobby), then the battery options open up A LOT more.
@@RoadsideRC Thank you! Subscribed and followed :)
With these batteries will I be able to just plug them directly into the trx4 chassis? I will be keeping everything stock but the batteries and charger.
@@Cranklotus Thanks!
Yes - those batteries will plug directly in.
