Thank you for uploading this British early talkie musical. While Anna May Wong's comical scene was very apparent, I don't see where Alfred Hitchcock made an appearance in this film. Can you point that out, please?

Horrible performance by Miss McKenna. So over dramatic. I can’t believe William Wyler allowed such antics. Jeanne Eagles and Bette Davis shine so much more.

Difficult to describe this excellent movie, but you'll like it. Hard for me to accept Nolan as a Police Detective as he's stereotyped in Hollywood as goofy mouthy P.I.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Excellent stories within stories (clean, w/o soapy sex triangles, thank God), good ethics & moral take-aways (nonexistent in our sinful Babylon 2024). A high-level plausible- early-WW-II IndoChina wartime plot (very fitting) ; OUTSTANDING plot !

So 50 years before "Barb Wire," there was already a gender-flipped "Casablanca," that came out the same year! Thanks for posting this. The ending was a bit frustrating; I don't get why she couldn't just shoot him in the head. (Was her gun out of bullets?) Great movie nonetheless. Not the least because of the two female leads!

MR. WU was one of the first films to use interracial love as a plot element, pre-dating Capra's THE BITTER TEA OF GENERAL YEN by about six years. Of course, both films used white actors for the romantic couple, but the theme itself was considered problematic for films of the era. Wong would return to the same theme in the British film PICADILLY (1929), in which she stars. Aside from the acting, the set design is excellent, and some of the shots very well done.

If you like this movie read a book called Wanderlust by Reid Mitenbuler. This tells the story of Peter Freuchen. He had so many adventures it’s easy to say he’s lived multiple lives in one. An amazing story!

Thank you for the upload. I'm usually surprised at the sound of some "all-American girl" voices of that era such as hers, having heard her described that way several times. Today they sound more British than American.

This is delightfully strange. It's definitely of its time but there is no denying the talent and energy of these performers.

This movie features and was based on the life of Lorenc Peter Elfred Freuchen, though in this movie he plays the villian. Lorenc Peter Elfred Freuchen was a 6’7” tall walrus-spearing, peg-legged, anti-Semite-clobbering Danish explorer and who wore an awesome coat made of polar bear fur, rocked a seriously epic beard, rode a dogsled 1,000 kilometers across the Greenland ice cap in the 1910s, killed a wolf with his bare hands, escaped a Nazi death warrant at the height of the Third Reich, amputated his own gangrenous toes with a pair of pliers (and no anesthesia), and starred in this Oscar-winning movie - which was based on a book that he wrote, and this guy was so over-the-top awesome that he played the villain in a movie that was loosely based around his own autobiography. He was also the fifth person to win the jackpot in the TV game show The $64,000 Question, published thirty books, founded two Adventurer’s Clubs, and his biography is called The Vagrant Viking. Peter Freuchen was so extra that one time he was caught in a blizzard and ended up being buried alive in an inescapable cocoon of ice so tightly packed around him that he could barely move. After 30 hours trapped in a frosty tomb the size of a large suitcase this behemoth Dane escaped certain death by molding his own feces into a knife and using it to carve through a solid wall of ice, then crawled another three hours back to base camp., This man lived a combination of The Revenant meets Everest meets Shawshank Redemption, and then went on to star in a hollywood movie about it.

As much as I like Darren McGavin's work, I have to say I'm not a fan of his protrayal as Mike Hammer. Not at all. I appreciate the film, the actors and background. I just cannot see Darren McGavin as Mike Hammer. Period. Stacy Keach was a much better actor in that role. It was iconic for its time.

For working in a labor camp, Anna May seems to have ample makeup.

You need to de-interlace this one. Everything else looks and sounds fine but it is hard to watch with the interlacing.
