"Fred Allen and Portland Hoffa welcome you to another hour of mirth and melody! After a quick opening joke or two, the episode is filled with a number of musical performances, beginning with I Know That You Know. The highlights from the news of the week comes next - about how comic books and cartoons affect children's development. Today's guest, Anna May Wong teaches Fred about Chinese customs, and the Texaco Workshop Players perform a Detroit automobile drama, Havoc in the Auto Factory." -www.rusc.com/old-time-radio/H...

Thank you for this
Well, she kept her dignity despite that mess, and showed she had an excellent sense of deadpan humor. Too bad she didn’t get to do more comedy. Douglas Fairbanks noted her comedic style way back in 1923.
I know it's all in good fun and not meant to be offensive and I certainly am not an advocate of presentism, but it's just really sad seeing her ethnicity being mocked for entertainment. She deserved so much better.
Mocked? Not at all. Jack Benny took a lot of ribbing. (There was a made-up feud between Benny and Allen.) Even Allen gets ribbed a lot, including the ending. No, Anna May Wong was treated with much respect. I would think parts were actually put in from Wong about China, travels there, her own career. Were there groaners? Of course, that's in comedy, too. (Johnny Carson monologues?)
