Anna May Wong plays Lois Ling in this movie which is a part of the Ellery Queen film series. Note: I did a re-do of the upscaling of this film to correct the aspect ratio and image quality (mostly to correct the interlaced video lines present in the previous version). Hopefully, I was successful at keeping the correct aspect ratio while upscaling to HD and improving the image quality to look more "natural" looking. Please let me know what you think!

I applaud your effort. Might I suggest though that the outlines on the edges of people and objects might be what's called ringing as a result of excessive sharpening. A bit less processing would mean a softer image but without or with fewer artifacts from processing. Anyway, a good effort at what is a bit of an art.👍

When movies had class, unlike today.
I know Topaz AI from astronomy imaging. These days astro-imaging is essentially very low frame rate video. It never crossed my mind that you could use it with digital copies of old flicks. Thank you very much for preserving the aspect ratio. Stretching and cropping are right down with colorizing as serious sins for old monochrome movies.

To be honest, It was about 04.00 after Midnight and trying to relax I started to watch this movie. During it I fell assleep again to wake up somewhere near the end. I'll watch it again fully (!!) but, nearing the end it struck me like I had seen this movie before and that it was had been a very funny comedy... It has become 06.27 in the morning by now..😉. Is this a comedy or close to it, or does someone know wich one (out of those days !!) became the parody of it that might be the one that I remember... This with all due respect 💐. Ma. Wong was a woman ahead of her time. It was a cruel cosmic joke that she was born in a time period when she had little chance to live up to her potential. If she were here, and young in this decade, she would be seen for what she was....AN AMAZING,, INTELLIGENT, BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!

It's hard to hear someone refer to a Chinese person as a Chinaman or an Oriental. They used to throw around many derogatory terms in the old days without a thought or care in the world of how the person might've felt being called those things. I'm glad that some of us have advanced beyond that these days. Some of us. There are of course nearly 30% of Americans if not more that are still very bigoted and refuse to have respect for others that are not white. That's very difficult for me to understand.

Why do you see "Oriental" as a derogatory word? I'm 72 yrs old and NEVER heard that word used in a negative way, nor have I ever met someone that would claim that to be an insult.. Back in the day, the "Orient" was a word used to describe Eastern Asia. There are so many nations and cultures in that region, it seemed logical to most of us to use a word like that to cover an area without having to be specific...The corresponding word to describe the west was "Occident"...Yep, Orient and Occident. Thank heaven they stopped using Occidental to describe people like me cuz I ALWAYS felt insulted by that word...
