Astrology + Anna May Wong = An incredibly fun & enjoyable film. I know I say this a lot, but this is an underrated gem.
***Upscaled from its original size (640x480) and & improved the image quality using AI technology from Topaz Labs.

This is one of my favorite AMW movies, because her character is less stereotyped than in most of her films and more like I imagine her to have been in real life. Plus, it's a fun little murder mystery from Warner Bros. at its peak. Some of the more superficial AMW biographies say that she only played stereotyped roles, but there were exceptions. This film and Daughter of Shanghai are notable examples.

This is such a fun film! Part of me feels like she really enjoyed her role in this movie. RIP Queen.

Once again, you've outdone yourself, thank you. The re-do upscaling looks great! This is in my top 5 of all Anna May Wong movies. Not that the film is all that great, although it *is* a perfectly enjoyable little romp, immensely entertaining. But my love for it is Ms. Wong's character Mei Lei Ming and how the others interact with her. Although she's treated as something of an enigma at first, and maybe a little throughout, she's given the utmost respect from the police and other authorities, professionals and such and for the most part is able to avoid that "inscrutable" clichéd performance so familiar with Charlie Chan, Mr. Moto, Mr. Wong and other Asian film detectives. Her uniqueness as an astrologer has very little to do with her being Chinese, although it's alluded to somewhat. She's confident, clever, humorous and looks gorgeous. Plus, she lives in San Francisco. It's a damn shame it wasn't a bigger hit. To quote IMDb: "The film was meant to be the first in a low-budget franchise starring Anna May Wong as a amateur detective who uses astrology to solve crimes." Another in a sad history of lost opportunities.

Note: I did a re-do of the upscaling of When Were You Born to correct the aspect ratio and image quality. Hopefully, I was successful at keeping the correct aspect ratio while upscaling to HD and improving the image quality to look more "natural" looking. Wish I had done this correctly in the first place, but It is a continual learning process for me... Anyways, please let me know what you think!
P.S. The older version is now unlisted. But if you'd like a link to it, please let me know.
