I set up this channel to put the odds and ends videos that don't fit on my other channels. Usually videos showing short operations (like making a specific type of cut to include in a website article, but can be anything at all - no rules on what I show here.
As usual, take everything you see here as entertainment or a source of inspiration - these are not comprehensive tutorials and should not be taken as definitive instruction on how to do an operation or how to use a tool. It's up to the viewer to learn and understand how to safely use the tools they choose to work with.

I moved here 11 years ago this May and immediately converted the garage into a woodworking shop where i made hundreds of projects and videos. I'll miss it but its time for a change. The (now) old shop will be converted back to a garage this summer and my new shop will be set up in my much smaller shed, but how it gets there and what will be inside will be interesting. Really appreciate your thoughts on the different strengths of 3d printing - Playing around with my parts I found their orientation on the print bed to be a major factor in strength as well. Keeping with the clothes hook you mentioned, laying it on its side will be the "strongest" orientation, since the layers go vertically and shear forces are handled somewhat better, but then again it needs different strengthenings so that it won't deform under the constant load.
on the desert island you are inhaling sand which is bad you would have to make a man made island that is all metal or marble or something, no joke though a marble island would be kinda bussin'
damn now i gotta go bald too
good thing i only wear underwear all day
A lot of modern hand tools are crap, I usually look for good condition vintage, I also restore old hand tools as well. I've being working with wood for the last 46 years and ther has been a steady decline in quality over that time.
A lot of products that we interact with on a daily basis are marginal in strength. Consider any consumer product made out of multiple pieces of plastic, the places where the pieces connect is marginal in strength and if something happens such as you drop the item it will likely break at the connection points. Now make that same item with the material weaknesses of 3D printing and it may not work for normal use. The connection points need to be strengthened but most people making 3D printed items don't understand engineering stress analysis and don't know how to strengthen connections. They have to build one, wait for it to break, then rebuild it with more material in some areas, until they get something that works.
Hey John, I achieved the same outcome by changing the handle for a straight cut gear and matched that up with another straight cut gear to reverse the direction required. The two gears sit side by side in mesh.
How did you get the glue off?
2x4s are a little different from foot molding though. I've got a bunch of spikes in foot molding left from a "professional" flooring company.
DO NOT do this ..
Tapered. Or magnets
I've heard the fiberglass gets lodged in the lungs, you can't get it out and it and causes tissue damages. I would do more research before downplaying the dangers of this material
Y'alls metabolisms' is so much more than ours is!!! down here in Jawjaw!!
You are fantastic
Hi John, The purpose of the design and print orientation factor in for sure. Love the tweak on the handle. Shell thickness or outer layers often compensate for higher infill. I have a 10% infill hockey puck type adaptor that goes on my trolley Jack. Have had no issue with it holding up my car.
Always fun to hang out in your shop and hear what you've got going on.
I've had good luck using a mini split with a heat pump. It works well with Minnesota temps which sound close to what you get in Canada. What's handy is some of them have freeze protection which maintains temp at around 40F so you don't have to keep it heated to 60 when you're not in the shop. Still, it sounds difficult to give up that setup in the garage for a shed 😆
John, The little eys flipping back and forth insert was funny. Glad your staying in the “workshop” that we built together (well I watched).
It would be really interesting to see a fusion design of the sanding block. Something that involves using a wooden plate for stiffness and 3D printing the frame and handle.
Please no one say that B&D and DeWalt are the same company. I;m mad, and I don't want to shred any John Heisz fans with the facts.
So the best woodworker on CZcams John Heisz, and HE is the guy B&D is going to sue? What geniuses! I swear, if this ridiclous frivolous suit costs John 1 penny, I will go thru my 50 year old collection oif tools and pile every B&D tool in my firepit and post the inferno on you tube. First off your patent expired many many MANY years ago. His creation looks nothing like your rusty metal mess. And it's WOOD!!! A-holes. And you aren't even B&D, your a chinese company, who took a shitty tool company and made it worse. DeWalt is good, B&D is crud. Like Skill, wne they sold out too. Thanks Democrats.
That's good rethinking John We should all probably give second thoughts to many decisions we are going to make.
Your nose snag sanding block?
Think that is a good decision to stay in a well insulated shop. You do need some comfort with what you do. Also the poem underneath the caption is pretty snazzy 😃
Sing to the tune of the “Love Boat” theme, if you didn’t catch that.
@@gooberpea8134 even better now, thanks 😅
We got up to 34C ( that is 93F ) last week. We are just south of where John is. Not Arizona heat but with the humidity that we have, it is quite uncomfortable.
I didn't see plans on your website for the bandsaw, did i miss those? And what size is it horizontal & vertical? Thx
Looking forward to the next projects, John! 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
When you 3D print the blade, I'll be impressed.
I wasn't going to say anything about moving out to the shed but those thoughts went through my mind. "Won't it be really hot/cold? You did all that work in your garage just to store your van and some other stuff?" I let people be and try to reduce giving my opinion but I'm glad you're staying in the garage for now. I don't know how many of us could handle the change.
Great Job John, Great Design, kudos to you!
Would you be allowed to put a carport in front of the garage? That would give you shelter from snow + ice on your car.
Let the chips fall where they may. ( little turning humor for ya, lol)
yay

But the thing I love the most are the 3dprinted parts for the 3dprinter box? enclosure?... So clever, so simple and so beautiful... Please keep going John!!!! Cheers from Buenos Aires!!!
A Diresta drill press?
It's not only the size and shape of the fibre that makes it harmful. The time the body needs to remove the fiber plays an important role. Generally speaking: The longer a substance remains in the body, the higher the risk of damage. Modern rock wool and its fibers do not remain in the body long enough to cause lasting damage. In addition, modern rock wool is biosoluble in the human lungs. It is not good to inhale anything except air. But the risk of becoming seriously ill is less than some people think.
This keyholes are useless. These power bars should have through holes from the factory.
If I may suggest, *Marius Hornberger* has an excellent video (actually _two_ 🙂) on doing a number of upgrades to his drill press. I'd link, but... YT deletes said links, even internal-to-YT ones. Search on: *"Marius Hornberger Inside a Drill Press"* He then followed it up with "World's Best Drill Press Upgrades" which adds still more. Marius has a GREAT channel, FWIW!
Im a designer in a machine shop. I was thrilled when company bought a 3-D printer. It was very expensive and the spools of material were crazy expensive. Cool that prices have come down for the hobby level.
My power board becomes looser then stormy Daniel’s when I do the tape trick
A video that proves without a doubt that when making videos, you should have a somewhat clean bench to demonstrate the product. It certainly would have not taken long to clean up a bit.
Great video.... btw: I don't know any company that doesn't lie about power ratings. And another thing is, that if you measure a so called 4 Ohm loudspeaker, it usually has around 3,4 Ohms DC resistance, at least that's my exp. Doesn't add much, though. Clearly, the power brick is too weak, no doubt about it. I wonder, why all these brands always ship their I would say very fair products with "underpowered" PSUs: It should be the other way around - if you don't need the output, you should be able to take the cheaper option, but the standard should be the full power version, IMHO.
John, did you lose some weight? I hope it's intended.
His argument is basically "Drinking bleach maybe bad for you but so is drinking alcohol. Everything bad for you." It's false equivalency. Equating the two as if they're both equally as bad when they aren't. Asbestos is gonna fuck up your lungs way worse than dust particles from your dryer is gonna do.
