Well actually, a sawstop will use an integrated sofisticated switch witch would be mutch safer than your permanent solution. Why don't you just buy an obviously better tablesaw John?

There is no installation more permanent, than a temporary installation.
In computers, we say there's nothing more permanent than a temporary hack. Came here to say this, and found it already said :)
Many years ago I made a table saw fence copying Biesemeyer design . I made it with a larger T so it had more squaring power.
It does not have rear locking capability, but it works fine for what I needed.
Being made of heavy steel tubing it's just fine.
I'm sure heavy side pressure or rear lifting pressure could create problems but so far it hasn't for me.
That t-square fence was one of the best things I've ever made.
I'm looking forward to seeing your fence and the rear locking mechanism.

Being stubborn and easily distracted, I would have pushed on and disassembled the old switch and figured out how to fix it... (and completely forgotten the original task).
I did this the other day with my router - but I did fix the switch!
(It was full of sawdust - there was a little opening, and being upside down in the router table, it was gradually filling to the point where the contacts were forced open)

Any thoughts on the new compact sawstop? I was thinking about maybe getting that and building a larger table around it with your fence. Seems like the cheapest way into getting the safety feature, but it's only go a 24inch capacity.

I bought a Powertec paddle switch from Amazon February 2020 in January 2021 it broke. I am not a heavy table saw user. I have a twenty dollar trim router from Harbor Freight still running after four years.

Always cool in the shop, even on the hottest days. Just 19 C this morning when I recorded this. Lots of insulation plus no sources of heat plus the thermal mass concrete floor slab regulating the temp.
You could have poked your eye out! 🤣
Not using electrical tape doesn't bother me, but having a screwdriver rolling around next to a spinning blade, that's the line!
