    I'll be doing the project and posting shorter progress videos as I work on it. After it's done, I'll put all of those short videos together into a full build video and post that on my main channel.
    The catch is that the shorter video may have more detail, since I need to keep the full build video fairly short. So if you want to see it all in easy to digest bite size pieces weeks before it goes live on my main channel, you can get that for as little as $1 per month.

    I thought the idea of using your vice to hold the table was genius. That video actually broke me out of a funk where ive had no interest in woodworking or tackling home repair projects in months. Dont know what it was but thanks for giving me some motivation!

  • @crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230

    John, have I told you lately how brilliant you are? Man, you are one of the most creative creators on YT. I can't wait to watch the entire build of this mechanism you put together on your drillpress. Having to crank up the table with my DIY table in the way is something I too hate doing. I have to contort my body just to get at it, lol. I just bought a chefs cutting board in black that is18" x 24", and 1-1/2" thick for only $14 US, that I think I may use as the top of the new table I will build. Your ideas always intrigue me and I enjoy watching your ideas become reality. Way to go John. Another hit out of the park!!

    This was my favorite project of yours. I think it's pure genius. One thing tho. You gotta do something about the vise handles banging against the underside of the table.

    • @KipdoesStuff
      @KipdoesStuff Před rokem

      those handles will only bang on that table on the rare occasions when he takes the table off. Not worth the effort at this time is my guess.

  • @barryirby8609
    @barryirby8609 Před rokem

    I agree with all the others who commented on the need for handwheels versus the handles. Or you could turn them into ships wheels with a bunch of spokes. You may want to somehow key the table insert so it won't spin. Make the cut out oval or square. Also put a second calibration on the in and out feature to compensate for the table.

    That drill press table is awesome! This is definitely something I want to build. I think the only change would be to replace the "stick" handle on the front for a wheel type handle that won't hit the bottom of the table. I think I could still get good clamp pressure with a wheel/knob vs. the stick-handle you have. Only way to know is to try it! Thanks for posting this series. I really appreciate your videos. Audio and video quality are very good, and the information is always top grade.

  • @BNETT21

    I just built my electric trike and the battery mount that came in the kit is insanely strong. its just a block of aluminum with a hole drilled in it the exact diameter of the trike frame. Then they split it in two. I was worried it was going to rotate with the heavy battery being cantilevered off to one side of that bracket/clamp but holly cow is that thing strong. I couldn't get it to rotate no mater how hard I tried. I think something like that to form fit the post would help you out a lot with that play you were seeing.

  • @ChuckBronson100

    Hi John, if I may suggest raising the table above the frame enough to be able to clear the handles on the vise. Great job again

    • @IBuildItScrapBin
      @IBuildItScrapBin  Před rokem +3

      It doesn't need to do that. It would reduce capacity, make it less solid and the handles work fine as they are. And the table will be on there 99% of the time, anyway.

    • @act.13.41
      @act.13.41 Před rokem +1

      It would probably lose some stability, due to extra leverage, but it might be strong enough.

  • @dakotamax2

    Love the build John, and great to see that gear vise getting some use! I'm contemplating a design for a momentary, hold-down device on a swing arm for my floor press. Although I own plenty of clamps (including the ubiquitous "quick" mount vise grip thing), they're all a pain to set up and inevitably get in the way of the next operation.

  • @_J.F_

    I love that electric lift. I usually go to all sorts of silly lengths to avoid moving my regular manual table unless absolutely necessary but with yours I could see myself raising and lowering it just for fun 😄

    Now that the table is indexed, you could also put a second scale on the "stop block" part, left and right (either side of the center), for the exact same purpose of the "depth" scale.

  • @MCsCreations
    @MCsCreations Před rokem

    John, the only suggestion I could think of to give you is to replace the vise's handles for wheels that don't hit the table. Other than that, it's perfection! 😊

  • @blaugrana-jw3dd
    @blaugrana-jw3dd Před rokem +1

    I don't know if it's a good idea, but you could get the two handles of the vice to be parallel to each other, so that when you turn one, the other does the same mouvement. Maybe it's just me haha

  • @murphymmc
    @murphymmc Před rokem

    Maybe convert the vise handles to a wheel crank. Not a big deal as you won't be taking it on and off that often but I can see you doing that for the typical, and appreciated, efficiency.

    Did you consider replacing the vice lever arms with knurled knobs so the levers wouldn't hit the bottom of the table? I realize that it's a minor thing, but that's gotta be annoying.
    Nifty project overall.

    • @IBuildItScrapBin
      @IBuildItScrapBin  Před rokem +2

      Doing that would solve a problem that isn't really a problem (the table will be on there 99% of the time) and greatly reduce how much torque I could apply using the vise.

    Just run a bead of PCA or adhesive calk down the pipe on both sides and bond the plywood to the pipe. It will never move again.😉
