After many years of owning my M3 I would still say it is a great daily driver, every time I get out of the car I still pat the steering wheel and quietly whisper "Thanks babe, what a car!". Not many cars leave you feeling that way after 13 years of ownership. However, nothing in life is free and she's getting old now. Some parts are getting harder to find, so that's a consideration. It is expensive to run, not very fuel efficient, but here in the UK, cheap to insure using classic car insurance. I budget on one properly expensive thing going wrong each year, plus more than £1500 a year in regular servicing and consumable parts. Suspension seems to need a rebuild every 5 years or so, but maybe I have been unlucky. The worst thing I can to say about it is that the heating system is not that great compared to modern cars, especially in the winter. The aircon makes a noticeable drag on the engine. Also, it isn't easy to fit decent speakers without cutting into the metal, which I prefer not to do. To get some extra bass, I fitted a subwoofer that fires through the ski hatch, but that's boxed in and costs me some rear boot space. It's a trade-off I'm happy with, the boot is pretty big anyway. All in all, I have never loved a car more. It is everything I think a car should be, everything feels just right.

In my experience, the M tax is huge (although not as big as the AMG tax!). However, I love my E36 M3, mine being the European Evo. It is worth every penny.

It's been 6 years since you did this how long did the plasti-dip last? Did it keep the water from leaking between it and the window?

This is somehing, that makes me laugh every time I talk about buying an old bmw with someone. "But you know it's gonna break down every time". Yea no shit I'm not buying 2015 Toyota 😂

ive had a 328i 96 for 10 years and man this engine sounds amazing and the engine is strong at 230k, its now my weekend car but imma drive it till the wheels fall off

Man, I can listen to this sucker all day long. My wife asked me if I'm crazy - like why do you have to wind down the windows when we hit an enclosed space. I'm like - I'm a car fan, babe🤷‍♀️

One thing, that really annoys me is how people see e36s and 90s bmw in general. I'm saving up money for e36 right now and every time I talk about it with someone, I always get reactions talking about how unreliable and bad e36s are, especially from car guys. The thing is, that people spend money on modifying them instead of basic maintenance. I often see people saying that "it's a winter beater, no point to maintain it like a daily" and after the engine blows up, they call it a piece of junk beacuse they rather spend money on turboing it instead of fixing the already big issues.

When this happened to my black 1st gen Tundra on the window trim and I saw under the peeling black film was chrome, I just took a razor and trimmed off the film. Now it matches the mirrors, moulding and badges and looks pretty cool imo. It’s easy to do and if you don’t like it you’ll then have a smooth surface to hit with the Plastic-Dip. My 2 cents🤙🏻

Does anyone know how I could Turn off the eletric Mirrors on my E36? Everytime I drive the position on the Mirrors resets.

Why i feel my E36 1.6 pr9duced power is not direct deliver to wheels and it comes after a lot of gas pedal to it it could be my catalyt choked ? THX 😊 if anyone bothers !@

Did you change the MAP sensor? You'll get more boost using a 4 bar.

I have a 98-328iS and I Iove it. Had many M3s, but my 328 is my fav. I love the look as is too. No need to change it to M look.

"the only difference is just going to be the engine" uh, the engine is the whole point :P If you don't want the engine, you automatically shouldn't get an M3.

Do the following if you have an E36, on the gage cluster next to the fuel gauge is a button press and hold it, now tourn the ignition on to acc, the first position, now the odometer will display something different, let the button go, because the next thing that's going to happen the gauge cluster enters its test mode, be patient in the end all the needles will go clockwise to their end position, and back, you're welcome.

for interior you forgot black headliner and black pillars makes a huge difference in look

I was so glad to see the auto closing windows i went out to my Z3, unfortunately it's not there.

When it comes to the US version of the e36 it is true there isn't much difference in performance between the 328iS and the M3 however the Euro version of the e36 M3 is a much different story since it has about 80+hp over the US version. If you are in the US and looking for an e36 M3 and you aren't far from Canada I'd suggest finding one there since Canada was shipped the Euro version of the car.

If you're running carbs on a vehicle take a bottle of transmission fluid. Remove the breather and air filter start the vehicle. Used one hand to raise the RPMs by moving the throttle linkage. Raise the rpm to 1500 and try to hold steady. With your other hand hold the transmission fluid bottle over the opening in the carb. Trickle the transmission fluid down into the carb adjust the throttle as needed to keep it running. Run the vehicle u til the transmission fluid is gone. It will smoke the neighborhood up. It will also clean the carburator, valves,intake manifold heads and pistons.

Bmw e60 530xi / N52 motor sitting at 218,600+ thousands miles. She still runs strong. Had it for about 7 or 8 years now one of the first cars I bought around 21 or 22 years old. I got it around 100k miles.

Dont buy them they are not reliable and expensive to maintain and an overall shitbox with no qualities. (I dont want the price to go up, trying to keep that market price down)

I like the Vador as driver seat only, but I hate M3 outside mirrors' visibility. I have a 1999 328is M-Tech manual with 2.93 diff modified to Torsen, plus the quick steering rack from the non-M Z3.

Great advice in this video. I think it all depends on your situation, what you want and what you need. The first car I ever drove was my dads 1990 325i when I was just 14 years old. Growing up the feel of that car stuck with me and made me long for a "proper" 6 cylinder BMW of my own. I finally bought a M140i in 2021 after 7 years driving my 2005 Civic Type R which literally rusted away under me! I can honestly say the M140i is the best car I have ever owned and every time I drive it I am reminded of that 325i. One way or another, owning cars like this is an expensive hobby. If you like fixing up cars and don't depend on it as your daily driver, go for the old M3. If you are an average guy like me and just want something that feels special, the M lites are great value for money.

I've owned 1 of 3 of my e36 for over 10 years my e30 for 5 years now and when I'm not driving my work truck I drive my e46 325xi the most and love all of them.
