THIS "RACE CAR PART" IS MAKING ITS WAY INTO BMW'S ALL OVER THE WORLD

  • Chassis mounted shifters are more and more popular for BMW's like the e36, e30, e46, e90 and e92. Today I find out if it is a good fit for the e36 m3 and if it is a good alternative option to the infamous short throw shifter. Does it only belong on the track in race/ drift cars, or is it also good for the street?

    I had a RTD Mini V2shifter which was still taller than stock height on my 135i when I owned it. Although CAE is the "Gold" standard for chassis mount shifters, the RTD takes the cake hands down because you do not have to cut anything in order to install it and the craftsmanship is tops. That is my next upgrade for my E36 M3.

    I've had three manual Z3s (E36), I always go from neutral to second then straight into first from a stop, especially when it's cold. Changing the transmission fluid on a manual helps. Every used car with a manual is low and has thick black fluid.

  • @Mitrofanvlad
    @Mitrofanvlad Před 3 lety +1

    If you can buy a stock shifter from manual BMW e60, in e36 it will be as short shifter, almost identical to z3m shifter but you get it for few dollars

    • @joseherrera5264
      @joseherrera5264 Před 3 lety

      Yup, I was considering this for my E39 since stock is such a sloppy shifter. I mean for a 20yr old car you can't really expect much, but yeah insane value for your money. My shifter and many other BMW owner's shifters wobble around so much, sometimes when I pop it into 1st the rightmost part of 1st is almost right in the center where 3rd would be.

      Lsd. Welded is probably better though. The lockup on the m3 LSD is only 25%.

    damn i gotta start pausing the video and writing how it goes lol
    1) 10/10 burnout gib more
    2) Shortshifter is an okay thing but as said, chassis mounted shifters are the best there are. Only thing better/quicker are SMGs.
    3) Going to 6spd is a lot of work and money, maybe just change the clutch for now. Video idea - get lightened flywheel, there's many options. I'm using m20 10.8 pounds one (i machined it, stock it's heavier). Different car. That bich revving hella quick. Trust me try it.
    4) I see you're a spinnyboi, now on video too that's perfect keep up that spirit! lol
    5) mentioning that, another video idea -- get open 3.38 diff and weld it. I just did it couple of days ago on my semi street - semi race car, it's fun as heck. Not too terrible to live with except when parking tightly. It's a bit embarrassing chirping if you wanna "look cool" for biches and your tires get melted but hey fvck it it's awesome. And you can swap it in and out in a day. Also those diffs are cheap so... yeah. It's awesome, try it.
    6) so weird seeing you give your car to different people. My car is nice but it's a shitbox compared to yours. And i don't give it to Anyone ever.
    7) Look into some quick release steering wheels with hub. Now when you shift fast, you'd quite enjoy having snappier steering command if that's correct phrasing. Most of them are shiny but for approx $450 you can get non obstrusive, short radius ones. Real good thing for performance driving. Also you'd be surprised how much more hand grip they have compared to the stock factory steering wheel.
    P.S for the love of god get that red thing out and screw your factory M shifter knob on. It just doesn't belong there, not for my taste at all...
    Keep it up Gav, loving the content! I also see you grew to 40k subs! That's fkn awesome! Much love man, cheers

      ah also bushing on that old shortshifter can be easily replaced. Wobbly shifting part too with a little bit of work.
      There's many kids loving e36 platform, and you've got quite a community here. Don't throw it away, gift it or donate. Someone would be very happy to have such piece :) gl
