Nice to get out of the city I'm sure. I remember seeing Woodchucks when we were there. We don't have them here. No Samsquantches either lol. I know what you mean about the fat bike.
You don't have woodchucks (groundhogs)? Really?! Well I'll be! I thought they'd be all across the US. Whadaya know?!
Much neater than something that's not neat...HAH!!! Mornin' Josh! Perfect daystarter!
What can I say? I do the best I can with what I’ve got. Have a great day friend!
Back at ya, Josh. Looking forward to seeing you in a few more weeks!
@@mfosiecki going to be fun!
Cool bike man! I owned an original 1994 Kona Lava Dome Boy do I miss that bike…😢
Thanks a bunch. I’ll bet there’s another out there waiting for you to find it.
I'll be there in a couple of days.
It’ll be a hoot!
presidential moment, lol. I shall use that forever.
@@TheAmerz1 I’m fortunate that it just came out without thought.
I have 3 fat bikes. I love to ride them, probably more than any of my other bikes, even though I ride my gravel bike the most (exercise reasons). I always think of them as a Cadillac. 2 are rigid and one has front suspension and it's like riding a water bed. It's fantastic! They are slow though. Admittedly, I like the road howl I get when I wind em up. 🙂 I did have to laugh at the "Presidential moment" comment. At this point, chuckling at it is all we can do.
I put a Axiom rack on the back of my Minnesota, because this bike and Randy and Nova have rubbed off on me, but seeing this reminds me, I need to put my fenders on as well. The rear fender is gona take some ingenuity, and I spaced it off.
“Like riding a waterbed.” Hahahahajhajj!!!!!! You nailed it perfectly!!!
Here I’ve got a planet bike big buck fudged under the axiom rack. Works well.
@@EriebyCycle That's the exact one I got, because of seeing it on your bike. I especially like how the front fender covers so much of the tire, compared to a lot of fat bike fenders. I just need to make it happen and get the rear figured out.
@@johndunbar2393 oh neat! I’m fond of both the rack and the fenders. I’ll see if I can make time to make a short video about how I fudged the fender into the rack. I managed to do it without ruining it. It’s kinda halfassed but it’s not stupid if it works!
Always happy when you post a video! Hope you are doing well Josh.
Thanks so kindly! I hope and trust you are well… as well!
I hear ya on that fat tire. My buddy has one of those high end Kona XC MTB's with some 3inch WTB tires. And its just so slow an loud. 700mm bars. Its just to much bike for casual riding but a do everything bike like you said. I guess thats why they make a variety of bikes... to each his own! Anyhoot... good to seeya bud! Im glad things are going well and I appreciate the update. Good to see ya cruise on the 2s!
Another posted about a fit bike being like riding a water bed… he’s not wrong. Your buddies bike sounds like a good time… so long as you’re not trying to get anywhere in a hurry. Thanks friend. I hope to be back again soon.
@EriebyCycle lmao! A water bed 🤣 that's hilarious! If pillows were tires. Lol!
@@billywood9717 lol… have a good week homie!
@EriebyCycle hey, you too, my friend! I'm sure it's been hard to balance everything in life with school and new challenges, but hopefully, you get time to ride more!
You could always build out a "gravel" bike from a hybrid or old 26" mtb. I built out my 1998 Barracuda XC URT frame into a softtail gravel bike that I plan on riding on the Katy Trail in Missouri next year.
I have two 90’s hybrids that I’d classify as unconventional gravel bikes. Both of which I’ve unintentionally managed to avoid making videos about .
Vintage Nishikis rock :-)
Thanks a bunch. Still my best riding bike.
So Don, if you were going to sell it, what do u think it's worth?
I’m not Don, but I can’t imagine it’s worth much here where I live.
Sweet isn't it? I have same bike.
Cool!
Thank you very much for making this video! From Madison Wisconsin...
You are most welcome. Glad you found it useful.
Mornin'! Living vicariously through what you're doing with CC, Josh. My educational pursuits were too purpose-focused and now, I wish I had just been more random in selecting studies. I love your let's-see-where-this-might-lead approach. For what it's worth, I was still clambering on-off machinery and jumping down into excavations in the final months of my 40+ year career. Really dug it. The desk-jockey part of my gig was certainly the more dangerous part of it.
Thanks friend. I typed out a reply but it disappeared when I clicked the reply button. I know this world has more for me. I don't exactly know what it is but I think this college nonsense has something to do with getting to the next step. I don't mind clambering around on industrial junk... I just don't want to do it in the same capacity forever.
Excellent. Thank you for the insight. I’m going to present the CC idea to my husband, he’s been wanting to go back to school and I know the “free” aspect will be what sways him. Bird fight. Frog fight. Geese. Nice spot
Thanks friend. Please keep in mind that while the tuition is free… there are still fees that equal about $75 per 3 credit class (super cheap.) I’m pretty new to this but I’m under the impression that tuition is free until whatever government funding runs out. I’d just call and ask, they are pretty nice, easy going people there. Best of luck to your husband, and you too.
Where you filming at cuz? Looks like a cool spot to dangle a line or two.
Private property. No fishing.
Congrats cuz - proud as hell of you ! ! ! !
Thanks a bunch! Greatly appreciated.
Congratulations!! Proud of you, man 😊
Thank you friend!!! I hope and trust all is well with you.
I’m so confused. I keep hearing that it’s free, but both college’s sites list rates for credit hours. Can you tell me house it’s free?
The tuition is free. The fees wind up being $75 a class. So it’s not 100% free education… just free tuition - but an awful lot less expensive than the other three colleges in town. A parking pass was about $250 when I went to PSU Behrend 20 years ago.
Josh, so great to see you on the small screen again… good work with the school stuff. Way to go!
Hey friend… thanks a bunch!
Hey buddy! Good to see ya man. Facing fears and enduring challenges brings out the best in us. Keep on keepin on. Glad all is well!
Thanks a bunch homie. Maybe next weekend I’ll have another video… if everything goes right.
@EriebyCycle sounds good man. I've been pondering the idea of starting my own content creation. Theres a serious lack of the "average joe, upgrading a budget bike and commuting through town" content. I can't seem to find any American people doing it. I might have to give it a try! Anyway, Im happy to see things going well for you an the family. Good video an good update!
Eye strain is real in taking online courses. Blue light filter coating on a pair of glasses that has a little bit of magnification helped me. I enjoy your online work here on CZcams, and you've sourced some great coffee!
Thanks a bunch. I picked up a pair of blue light glasses a while back. I didn’t like them for some reason. I’ll have to give them another try.
I love how you're always learning and growing. Maybe you'll be starting your own business?
Thank you so very much. I don’t know… can I have a business where I do everything all at once? Too many interests floating around in my head.
Great work, mate, and the best of luck. Loved watching this while having my morning coffee and breakfast. I have also considered going to do some sort of business studies, but at the age that I am at, I always thought maybe not. My dream would be to have a small bike shop. You have just really made me think about it all again. Thank you for the inspiration. I hope this video goes far and wide to inspire others, mates. All the best with the studies 👍 ❤
Thank you so much. Maybe you could take a single class and see if it works for you.
@EriebyCycle as you said, mate, I know how to learn 😉 definitely will look into it mate 👍 👌
That place must be full of deer!
That place is full of everything.
I took Business Class i trade school. only thing I remember the teacher saying was "If you can't sway them with substance, baffle them with bull".
That sounds exactly like my thoughts about business.
Good luck in whatever you end up doing. You never know where your plans may lead, but sometimes you just have to follow your gut. A friend of mine decided to return to college at age 55 and it led her to a job shortly after she loves.
Thanks a bunch. Much appreciated.
"At least it says I know how to learn". I love that! I never heard that one before.
Thanks! I thought it up Myself!
I love old MTB but i hate rim brakes.
I feel like that’s fair. I’ve found that a set of salmon colored Kool Stop pads and rim brakes work good enough for me.
1 lumen is the equivalent of 1 candles illumination, shortened to lumens for us simpleton future people 😜 How they would flip out going for a ride today 😂
Thanks! I did not know that.
We love riding in sandles !
Right on!
As an Englishman socks and sandals are mandatory.
Really? I did not know that. The more I think of it, the more I realize there has been a trend among young people to wear “slides” with socks… but I’m not young people.
I learned what a Pittsburgh toilet is today
Hahajajaja!!!!! I had family in the Burgh all my life and they all had one!
I ride in sandals during the summer, back when I kinda cared about speed I even had Keen sandals with SPD clips but I went platform pedals about a decade ago (MKS RMX) and I am not going back
I knew shimano made spd sandals… but didn’t know Keen did. Thanks for coming by. All the best from Lake Erie.
Loved the video. As someone who cycles for 8-9 months a year in temps between 85 and 105 degree Fahrenheit, sandals are pretty much the most standard footwear for me. Mind you, at least in India, they are super cheap and work wonderfully well with flat pedals. I would love to get my hands on Shimano Sandals with SPD. Hopefully, one of these days.
Thank you so much. In those temps it would seem mandatory to do everything in sandals. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find way more than I had expected ride in sandals. Best of luck with your quest for the spd version, and all the best from Lake Erie.
what era is this bike? doesn’t seem to be much info online about it
I don’t really have much information at all having bought it second hand. I couldn’t find anything online either.
Haven't biked in sandals since my childhood, but when I was en route to a day in the factory, socks and sandals made absolute sense during warm weather. No need to clunk about in heavy safety shoes any longer than necessary! Hey, love the ambient sound on this one, Josh! Breeze coming in off the lake rustling poplar leaves...with the horn of a not-so-distant freight train in the background. Quintessential Erie summer soundtrack!
I don’t think there’s any escaping that train.
Just to everyone out there, Shimano made SPD sandals. Personally I'm a flip flop man so may stretch to wearing crocs when riding.
I switched from SPD to sandals and wool socks last summer. Socks and sandals are amazing, I’ll never stop.
Yes! When I got back into bicycles I cared about spds... now I care about wool socks (I'm a Darn Tough Vermont convert) and sandals as well.
You do know that Shimano made SPD sandals?
@@dotadojardiner8893 I do. I haven’t seen much availability though. But I’ll admit to not looking very hard.
@@EriebyCycle That doesn't surprise me regarding availability, they do seem to be the unicorn of the shoe world. My question was more rhetorical than anything else.
I wear sketchers, with a mesh that lets the cold and wet through, so they might as well be sandles. As long as you have wool socks, you'll be dry and warm.
Wool socks is a staple! I I started using the Darn Tough Socks last year and I swear by them. Expensive but worth the money.
I've been biking the last few weeks in crocs. So comfortable.
I’m amazed at how many are biking in crocs. I’d have never guessed.
I ride my Surly in barefoot endurance running sandles ….hard too 🥰🥳
I’m going to have to look up barefoot endurance running sandals. I know what a Surly is though.😀
“Dad sandals”. “Mandals” would be soft-sole leather boots with shearling insoles and fat wool socks. I like riding barefoot more than wearing any holey shoe.
I think I have the right pedals on my English 3 speed. Maybe I’ll try it this summer.
@@EriebyCycle Deity Deftrap pedals with the pins removed are soft and support my 10 1/2 feet pretty well for 95% of the Erie Canal trail on puffy 2.25” tires.
One of the most honest videos I've ever seen. thanks.
Thanks so very much! That makes my day!!!
I find Crocs ‘lite ride’s are great for spaciousness, comfort & evaporative cooling (or mild warmth w/ socks).
I have to admit that I'm amazed by the amount of folks that have mentioned crocs so far. Clearly I'm missing out!
Crocs apparently tested but didn’t release SPD compatible crocs. That would have been great for riding in the rain. No need to dry out your shoes for the next 2 days on the radiator.
I saw a photo of spd crocs somewhere on the interwebz... but I figured it was a one off someone made - had no idea crocs actually made/tested them.
I have 2 pairs of hiking sandals and something similar to yours. I use them(no socks) mostly while cycling as I often swim in the local rivers to cool down and I don't have to take off my shoes.
Yeah!!! They drain much better than a pair of soggy sneakers!!!
Love the video. I dont see anything wrong with socks and sandals. Bike shed girl bought me some socks that have the design of a sandal on them 👍
Hahahahaha!!! You two are too much my friend!
@EriebyCycle Just enjoying life, mate, and taking it easy. I have skin like steel being married to bike shed girl 🤣
@@BikeShedBoy hey pal… happy Friday!!! I’ve got to go get ready for work. I hope you and your family have a great weekend!
@EriebyCycle and you mate. Have a great day at work. Today, I am building the orange currently just doing an invis protector fitting. Video tomorrow or Sunday. Take care pal 👍
Great video. As a sober bicycle dude, and I’m always building some bicycle or bicycle related things.❤So yeah I Dig this 👍, I just converted an early 90s Raleigh metallic green mountain bike (clean bike from original owner)using a Bafang bottom back bracket motor, 750watt,E-bike for fun.😊
Cool. I haven't messed with any ebike stuff yet. Some day.
If you ride a bike wearing sandals you also need to have your saddle too low so you look like a penguin waddling along with your knees pointed out and not understand how gears work so always ride around in the easiest gear because why would you even consider one of the other gears as those make the crank harder to turn duh.
I'm not sure I understand, but it seems as though you are insulting me. How clever.
@@EriebyCycle I wasn't insulting you. People that ride in sandals generally also ride a bike in the above fashion. Argo, if you want to ride in sandals that's what you need to aim for. This is generally known as "a joke".
@@donpalmera I was unable to tell you were joking. Apologies.
