Enjoy all of your videos but this one’s the best yet. As an ex-Erieite it’s a joy to see so many familiar spots (left in ‘69 just after HS graduation). Congrats on doing so well in school, but don’t stop making videos.

Hi Cathy! Thanks so much for the kind words. I’m always happy when ex-Erieites pop in. I have a lot on my plate right now but I’ll put something up whenever I get the opportunity.
Thanks again and all the best from Lake Erie!!!

Thank you, Dave! It is an interesting place that really doesn't get the credit it deserves. The second blackbird puffed up and opened it's wings a bit as it sang it's tune as I passed. I wish I was able to capture that a little better. The blackbirds are plentiful around here... especially across the bay in Presque Isle State Park.
Thanks for stopping by my friend.
I hope, and trust all is well.

Great tour, Josh! (Apologising in advance for shanghaiing the comments section here.) This vid's personally evocative for me as you've traversed right through the part of Erie where I spent my childhood. You rolled out on East 19th which is where my family lived in an old duplex owned by my grandfather. It was a vibrant ethnic neighbourhood back then...mostly Polish heard on the streets, neatly trimmed lawns...everyone had a garden out back. Densely packed houses with no empty lots like there are now. It all abruptly collapsed in the early 60s when everyone just white-flighted it out of there.
At about 3:40 into this vid, you pass through the neighborhood where my parents next moved to on East 7th street. The East Bayfront Parkway severed that area. East 7th, 9th and 11th were all deadheaded by the Parkway.and this neighborhood subsequently collapsed too. But there's good news. PennDOT's now proceeding with a project that will install raised medians and narrow down the lanes on the parkway to help regulate vehicle speed. (I recently learned that the City of Erie does not have the manpower to enforce speed limits nor does it use radar detection.) PennDOT's also adding pedestrian crossing signals at East 8th and 10th. Slower moving pedestrians that can't get all the way across the Parkway before the traffic signal releases its next fusillade of cars at them will now have a place to wait on the median...a real boost for impaired and elderly folks...money well spent by the state in this cyclist's view.
The Don Jon shipyard went up in the 1960s as Litton Industries. Their first ship was a lake freighter as I recall. The ship's midsection was fabricated in that big blue building. The ship's bow and aft section with all the "smart parts" were built elsewhere, welded together and floated to Erie where they cut it apart and attached it to the midsection (as my dad explained it to my sisters and me anyway).
Really appreciate your shout-out, Josh. My wife picked up on it from two rooms away. Not much gets past her...

Thanks friend! No need to apologize, this is excellent information. There's a few beautiful properties left in that neighborhood, most notably the south east corner of 20th and Brandes. There's an amazing garden there and they keep roses on their enclosed front patio that is often lit up in the mornings.
I'm excited to see how the improvements you mentioned play out.
Seemed natural to mention you as I saw the construction related to the article you wrote.
