I've seen one Nightster out in the wild. I don't think it was the special. But I think the right side of bike looks really good. But the left side looks like garbage. I think Indian and Victory did a much better job on Scout and Octane as far as symmetry goes. But I do think liquid cooled OHC is the future. They're not "traditional" but that's fine by me.

thanks, really useful. I have been pondering the memphis shades road warrior for longer journeys as my nose fairing throws the wind and bugs right into my face. Big question for me was height of screen, at 5 10/11 I am a few inches taller but 32 inside leg. most of us have similar trunk size so there is prob not a big difference unless well over 6 foot. I was looking at the 11 inch but will now check out the cafe style. Thanks again

I just bought a 2016 roadster. I am 54 years old. The first time I rode it, my legs started cramping in my upper thigh/ hip area. It felt like the controls were a little further back than mid. Maybe it was because of the short bars? I bought the bike because of the Cafe style look. While I probably just needed to stretch my thighs, and they do not hurt anymore, I would not suggest the Roadster for "older" riders. Maybe one day I will be able to afford a street glide! 😂

#1. the Street Bob price increase is not due to it being faced out, on the contrary, it is one of the best selling models because it was one of the best deal to get a brand new Harley with the 114 Milwaukee. Harley is just capitalizing on the demand and price gouging. At this point it is getting ridiculous buying anything new from a dealer. But depending on your region, the used market is just as bad. For example, where I live now we have a very short summer, we are in the middle of riding season, so buying right now is a mistake, wait until October and you can find some amazing deals. Also wait for all the bike rallies to pass, people put their bike for-sale right before the rallies hoping to get emotional buyers to over pay. Right now the current rate for any Harley is about $1K/year, so a 2019 would be around $19K for a Street/Road Glide. Also, never buy a whore/prostitute, a bike full of modifications, people think they can charge extra for having their hands all over the bike wrenching on it. I would gladly pay more for a virgin bike that hasn’t been messed with. Those are some of my criteria when buying a bike that have worked for me, hopefully it can help someone. Also consider the alternatives, Indian as an under dog are offering more bike for the same price as Harley, you do not need to ride a Harley. I just picked up a British classic and couldn’t be more happier, zero vibration, full of character engine, awesome stock exhaust melody, and it rides so smooth, looks amazing, everyone wants to ask you about the bike, it has been amazing owning a Triumph.

Of course you can take the Street Bob on a Highway. And it can handle it effortlessly. Its like saying can the LRS, Fatboy or Softail Heritage handle the highway? They are all on the same Softail frame and you can add saddle bags, cruise control and fairings. All those that say it is just a bar hopper are just chatting BS. Because they just think getting a bigger more expensive bike can only handle highways.

Dude, if you mention the size of the engine one more time… You think just because you have a big engine that you have a touring machine and you wrong, there are excellent touring machines with much smaller engines. Let me define for you what a Street Bob is… The street bob is a bicycle frame with a Harley big twin engine on it, the most barebone bike Harley makes, an engine on a frame with absolutely no frills, Harley answer for those looking for a quick and short thrill, a bar hoper. There is a lot more to touring than just a big engine. So, NO, the street bob is not a touring machine by any definition. Even within the Soft Tail line up, the Street Bob is the least of a touring option. I would actually pick the Sports Glide as the better touring soft tail, which comes with luggage, cruise control, better brakes, better suspension, and better handling. What you are saying is an insult to all the efforts that Harley engineers have put forward to create the most complete Harley touring machine. Please stop the madness. The Street Bob is the answer for those who wants a Sportster with the biggest engine Harley is making at the moment, people who actually don’t want anything to do with touring. Actually, by definition the geometry of a soft tail is the worse posture for touring, it makes you ride all stretched out not being able to support yourself correctly. You must be 7 ft tall with extremely long arms and legs to reach the controls. Even then you are riding on your tail bone, not being able to use your legs to absorb some of the jabs from the road, specially with the short suspension of such a style of bike. If you look a the touring bikes, people sit like a police, straight up with good posture which will help you extend and prolong your riding time, you won’t look cool like a renegade, but you will be able to ride longer. Remember people back in the days went cross country on a donkey, so yes you can use anything to go around, but that doesn’t make the street bob a touring machine. Furthermore, I think that all the soft tails are the biggest rip off from Harley. If you can buy a new fully dressed street glide for $23K, why would you pay $18K for a stripped down soft tail just because it has a Milwaukee engine. Just pony up the extra $5K and get the real deal. I think Soft Tails are a great option at the S12K option. The Sportster shouldn’t be anymore than $8K. Last but not least, Indian tricked Harley by daring Harley, Harley fell for it and will pay the price. Notice, that Indian has been able to create liquid cool engines that are high reving without changing its looks, sound or feel. The bottom of the line up scouts are as powerful as a street bob, but they remain a classic cruiser. In order for the sportser to become more powerful and liquid cool it had to become something else. Harley just doesn’t get it, they seen what happens every time they have tried a different engine, the vrod, the street 750, etc, it will be a flop, it doesn’t sell, unfortunately for Harley they must remain who they are, Harley is not allowed to murph into something totally new and different. Harleys are supposed to have a tractor of an engine that just pulls and doesn’t rev very high, engines with a lot of character, unique sound and feel, not a sawing machine. Harley should copy Triumphs and what they have done with their modern retro, the Boneville, they added liquid cool and fuel injection, but that’s about it, still the same tractor engine from the 1960 that just pulls, people are buying the Boneville for that old school feel of the engine and the retro classic style. Harley has completely abandoned their classic style for the worse. A Sportster no longer looks like a Sportster with that weird looking engine design which requires a huge hike in price and looks like something made out of random legos. Don’t get me started with that ugly road glide design trying to copy the Indian challenger which is also butt ugly. The new street glide is a bit more passable but still too much of a departure. That classic design of the Street Glide 2023, that will go down in history as the last of the most beautiful Harleys, the summit, the peak of an era in style and design.

I ride a 2020 Softail Standard with the “small” 107 ci engine. It is definitely faster than either any of the Sportsters (except maybe my 1964 XLCH) and my Dyna. The idea that a 114 ci, light weight motorcycle isn’t powerful enough for highway riding is ridiculous. Even fuel range with the smaller tank is manageable. If you need a radio and weather protection, drive a car.

Great review nicely done. Completely agree with you that it’s not for everyone…..but in my honest opinion, it is the direction that Harley needs to go to attract the newer riders. Also, The RevMax engine is very mechanical sounding and not for everyone. There is a lot going on under there hence all the clicking and clacking noise that you can hear (especially on startup). I believe from the bottom of my heart, every dealership that wants to sell these bikes, needs to pull the stock pipe off of them AS SOON as they uncrate them, and put an aftermarket system on. The RevMax engine sounds AMAZING with a TBR or S&S kit on it….kind of a cross between a Ducati and a KTM…then they will sell.

After installing the lane splitter SP pipe along with an S&S 475 cam on my FXLRS 117, I can say that the pipe is very loud. I like it but it is very loud. Need earplugs even with helmet for a long ride. Leave original tune in after changing cam and the bike runs terrible...definitely need a tune with a cam change. Now my 117(with a tune) is cranking out much more than before. But, the SP Concepts pipe is F'in LOUD! Not sure I want to keep it that loud...might bother the neighbors too much.
