  • Is the Harley Street Bob 114 JUST a BAR HOPPER!?? Many people say the Harley Street Bob 114 is just a bar hopper or their around town bike. Is it only good for that? It does have some limitations but in the video I will take the Street Bob on a road trip across Pennsylvania and see how it can hold up to the longer distance riding.

Literally rode my street bob 114 with no windshield, no saddlebags, just my sh*t strapped to a aissy bar, across the USA from coast to coast, south all the way through Baja, Mexico and across the Sea of Cortez on the Ferry to Mazatlan, then through central and south Mexico to Mexico City, where it now resides. I also use it to barhop here. :)

Good video! Yeah, mostly today everyone thinks for the long miles you need a bagger. It's BS, just depends on your age for the comfort. When young you can ride anything for the long miles, as you get older you may want to get a sled that is more comfortable. I'm 74 and just take a ride when I feel like it anymore on my 09 FXD. It's enough for me and I know I could ride it anyplace as I have other sled's in the past. Enjoy your ride.

Hey M.Jawn, I started following you a couple weeks ago when I was looking into getting a Street Bob of my own. Just picked up a 2024 this past week - after some negotiating on a lightly used 2023, and some patience, the dealer and I managed to come to a pretty good out the door deal on the brand new one. Thanks for all your coverage of this model, and you're absolutely right .. especially with a few comfort mods the Street Bob can DEFINITELY eat up a lot of miles. Speaking of which, I need to go back and check out your LePera reviews again 😉

ive taken a 150cc scooter on 400 mile trips loaded down with camping gear (50 offroad) 250cc 80s honda rebel cafe builds on long trips all the way up to nighthawk 750s and goldwing 1200s for some tours. now i have a sportster 1200 thats my daily and i put on 1000 miles just in commuting to work per month. i get the sportster bar hopper comment alot and it means pretty much nothing coming from people on GS BMWs and street glides that put on less miles in a year than i do in 2 months. some bikes were actually terrible for it but the sporty with a good seat and shocks is a treat in comparison.

To eliminate the handlebar vibration, I use GRIP PUPPIES (foam grips that fit over the existing grips) and instead of a windshield, I use a TRASHIN handlebar bag which eliminated most of the wind and it does not detract from the bike’s appearance.

When I bought my 21 LRS, i said I would be using it to ride between Tulsa and Tahlequah and possibly up into Arkansas on some road trips, and everyone said, "you'll wish you got a bagger for those trips!" Well, 3 years later and I still don't have a bagger with no plans of getting one. My LRS does just fine, and until recently, it could outrun any stock bagger.

Dude, if you mention the size of the engine one more time…
You think just because you have a big engine that you have a touring machine and you wrong, there are excellent touring machines with much smaller engines. Let me define for you what a Street Bob is…
The street bob is a bicycle frame with a Harley big twin engine on it, the most barebone bike Harley makes, an engine on a frame with absolutely no frills, Harley answer for those looking for a quick and short thrill, a bar hoper.
There is a lot more to touring than just a big engine. So, NO, the street bob is not a touring machine by any definition.
Even within the Soft Tail line up, the Street Bob is the least of a touring option. I would actually pick the Sports Glide as the better touring soft tail, which comes with luggage, cruise control, better brakes, better suspension, and better handling.
What you are saying is an insult to all the efforts that Harley engineers have put forward to create the most complete Harley touring machine. Please stop the madness.
The Street Bob is the answer for those who wants a Sportster with the biggest engine Harley is making at the moment, people who actually don’t want anything to do with touring.
Actually, by definition the geometry of a soft tail is the worse posture for touring, it makes you ride all stretched out not being able to support yourself correctly. You must be 7 ft tall with extremely long arms and legs to reach the controls. Even then you are riding on your tail bone, not being able to use your legs to absorb some of the jabs from the road, specially with the short suspension of such a style of bike.
If you look a the touring bikes, people sit like a police, straight up with good posture which will help you extend and prolong your riding time, you won’t look cool like a renegade, but you will be able to ride longer.
Remember people back in the days went cross country on a donkey, so yes you can use anything to go around, but that doesn’t make the street bob a touring machine.
Furthermore, I think that all the soft tails are the biggest rip off from Harley. If you can buy a new fully dressed street glide for $23K, why would you pay $18K for a stripped down soft tail just because it has a Milwaukee engine. Just pony up the extra $5K and get the real deal. I think Soft Tails are a great option at the S12K option. The Sportster shouldn’t be anymore than $8K.
Last but not least, Indian tricked Harley by daring Harley, Harley fell for it and will pay the price. Notice, that Indian has been able to create liquid cool engines that are high reving without changing its looks, sound or feel. The bottom of the line up scouts are as powerful as a street bob, but they remain a classic cruiser. In order for the sportser to become more powerful and liquid cool it had to become something else.
Harley just doesn’t get it, they seen what happens every time they have tried a different engine, the vrod, the street 750, etc, it will be a flop, it doesn’t sell, unfortunately for Harley they must remain who they are, Harley is not allowed to murph into something totally new and different.
Harleys are supposed to have a tractor of an engine that just pulls and doesn’t rev very high, engines with a lot of character, unique sound and feel, not a sawing machine.
Harley should copy Triumphs and what they have done with their modern retro, the Boneville, they added liquid cool and fuel injection, but that’s about it, still the same tractor engine from the 1960 that just pulls, people are buying the Boneville for that old school feel of the engine and the retro classic style.
Harley has completely abandoned their classic style for the worse.
A Sportster no longer looks like a Sportster with that weird looking engine design which requires a huge hike in price and looks like something made out of random legos.
Don’t get me started with that ugly road glide design trying to copy the Indian challenger which is also butt ugly.
The new street glide is a bit more passable but still too much of a departure.
That classic design of the Street Glide 2023, that will go down in history as the last of the most beautiful Harleys, the summit, the peak of an era in style and design.
