  • IS The Harley Street Bob The NEW Harley Sportster!?? The Sportster used to be the easiest entry to Harley Davidson for people to start riding and then grow into a large bike. Has the Harley Street Bob now replaced the Sportster as that bike? I see many people trading in their Street Bobs for larger touring bikes, why is that?

    I’ll never get rid of my streetbob. I’ll just buy a touring when I’m financially ready. different bikes for different rides.

    I hadn't considered this until you mentioned it, but I can see the Street Bob positioned to take the spot previously occupied by the Sportster, absolutely. The comparison is apt.

      exactly. I followed this very common pattern. Truthfully I may have kept the Street Bob if it wasn't the same engine architecture as the touring model.
      I don't miss the Bob, thought it is a nice bike. I do find myself wishing I had an Evo motor Sportster- particularly the Roadster version.
      Do you still have your Sporty? I can't remember if you traded in for your current bike or if you kept it.

      Nothing with the new rev max engine will truly be a sportster imo…no disrespect, it’s a decent bike in its own way but shares no characteristics of the sportsters we’ve all come to know and love over the years. They should’ve named it something else and just embraced the fact that it’s new and different. Especially the sportster S.

    • @Jordan-0692
      @Jordan-0692 Před 5 měsíci

      @Return_oftheMack auto manufacturers have done the same shit for decades. Look at a 60's Impala compared to one from the 2000's, they're not even close to the same thing. The Nightster is the new Sportster, it's fine if you don't like it, don't want one, but that's just the facts.

    I love my 23 street bob. I got it for a steal because it was the last 23(~2months). I was shopping used and the price was within 1k. It’s my first bike, took the MSF and rode off into Texas sunset(not new to riding, rode dirt bikes in high school). I’ll always keep mine, I’ve always loved softails. This bike is rowdy and an absolute blast! With that baggers really aren’t my thing. Being 5’8 185 this bike is absolute perfection.

    I have not owned a Street Bob. However, if I could own a second bike for my shorter rides (100ish miles) I would look to this model. My brother and his wife both bought one of these. At that time, they were just getting back into riding. Neither had a license. So, they got me to ride their bikes from the dealership to their home (about 70 miles). So, X2=140 miles. That was a pretty good test ride. I really enjoyed it!

    In the sense that it may be the new "intro" to Harley, you've got a point because what real options are there? In the sense that most will be trading up for bigger bikes, it depends on what riders are looking for. I had an '18 Street Bob and now have a '23. I'm a fan of the FXBBS' look, speed, nimbleness - all great for L.A. freeways and lane splitting - and that it is a perfect bike for customization. The baggers , in my personal opinion, are like the Harley version of oversized SUVs - too bulky. Again, only my opinion and no offense intended to fans of baggers. For longer rides, there's the detachable windshield, Army duffel strapped to the sissy bar, and 3-gallon fuel can. FTW!

    I honestly feel like the old 883 and 1200 sportsters are the best beginner bikes, and maybe the street Bob is for the guy that just wants the next step but not the full leap into the bigger bikes so maybe it’s a step two bike?? Ha ha

    I have owned road kings, dynas, and sporties, and honda shadows, I wouldn't consider any bike a "beginner" bike unless it's the first bike someone has ridden. I see bikes like a bag of golf clubs, theres different choices for different rides

  • @granzlewi
    @granzlewi Před 5 měsíci +1

    I can think of a few factors to consider; weight, power, and skill. One has to be in touch with all 3 to confidently and safely ride. These 3 fluctuate WAY TOO much for me to consider the street bob and sportsters comparable for a beginner. Example, that whiskey throttle in a wide turn looks ALOT different on a 107 than a 883 or 1200.

    Well here in Denmark I don't see the new nightster selling well either. The Nightster is 36.000 dollars with tax compared to the Evo sportster which was about 24.000 dollars. Import tax is about half of the price of a motorcycle in Denmark... 😅
    The street Bob is 38.000 dollars.. So if I had to choose between the nightster and the street Bob I would go SB without thinking 😆

    I love my '23 LRS. I've been sorta tempted to trade to a LRST but, nah, I can get bags that I like on my own and could care less about the fairing. You gotta always fight the newer is better temptation. Live with and build on what you've got. Those dealers are blood suckers. Take advantage of the food, music and drink but leave the bike lust at home. I have zero interest in the info-tainment laden baggers. The "reveal" event was pretty damned disappointing. It seems Harley is a bit lost.

    I can not justify a 600 + lb motorcycle with the 107 and especially the 114 engine in it as a beginner bike! Obviously, you can start on anything, but that's a lot of bike for your first ride. I rode my 883 for over a year before I got my FXLRS with the 114, and it was still a huge jump in power and weight. Now, the intro to the Harley world? Yes, definitely. I don't see the MoCo doing a beginner bike again either, seeing the current trends in their lineup. Which is ridiculous imo. But they obviously are no longer interested in making affordable motorcycles for people. Just bigger and more expensive models.

  • @dgross2009
    @dgross2009 Před 5 měsíci

    Problem with that is what you alluded to in the video, the weight and power. Personally I don't see any Harley as a beginner bike. They are just too heavy and expensive to learn on. Problem now is that it may take 2 imports to move into a Harley now whereas you could get into Harley more easily on a Sportster before. I'm talking normal size riders here. Obviously a 6'6" 200 lb person could probably jump on a Street Bob from the get go. Don't recommend learning on anything worth more than a couple grand though.

    In my opinion the Revmax bikes look and sound horrible. If I were going to get away from the traditional Harley look and sound I would get away from the brand all together. At that point it would not make sense to pay the Harley prices at all.

    I think I like the look and sound of the old Iron 1200 better than the Street Bob.
    I made the mistake of selling an Evo Sportster and getting one of the other Harleys. At some point I'm going to make my way back to an Evo Sportster. The grass isn't greener. I'm convinced the Evo Sportster is the best bike Harley has ever made.
