Stamp collectors consider taggent (the name of the ink) as an additional color of a stamp, albeit only visible under UV light. If it's not there and it's supposed to be (or vice versa), it's an error, and it's probably more valuable, which makes checking for tagging a bit like using a metal detector on a beach. Keep in mind that many of the early issues (post 1962) commonly had tagged and untagged issues: the Lincoln stamps in the video are of equal value either tagged or untagged. Only later did the Post Office become consistent in tagging stamps. All modern stamps are tagged except precanceled stamps (generally used by businesses) and low-denomination stamps (1 cent to 10 cents). The first US test-run was on a 1962 airmail stamp, Scott C62. C62 was originally printed without taggent, but the Post Office later added taggent to some sheets. The first US stamp printed with taggent in the initial production phase was the 1963 City Mail Delivery issue, Scott 1238. Also, the taggent used on airmail stamps is orange-red and the taggent used on general issue stamps (as in the video) is yellow-green.

Too far off one sees nothin'!Some still never learn using youtube " professsors" when measuring perforations. Some measuring edge to edge full stamp. Some measure only the frame inside the stamp ..then the ones who see this think they got a million wirth stamp and dump it on ebay saying is rare😒.

YUP - last thing to do before you go to bed. Then it does not matter how long it takes. Stamp collecting is a leisurely hobby in any case. I usually also soak any stamps I want to in the late afternoon and put them in the stamp drying book overnight.

I can recommend the stamp drying books - they work very well - one surface is shiny so the gum residue does not stick to it. The other side is designed to dry and not harm your stamps. And the stamps come out complete flat as if brand new.

That temple stamp at 6:36 is beautiful. There are several denominations and they are from 1957. If I start a Japan collection, I'll aim for early used and MNH lots. I'll use a stock book to store them.

I an thinking about collecting Japan scenery stamps in addition to Ceylon, Gilbert & Ellice and coffee themed stamp. I feel a stock book would be my way to store them.

Is it true that with normal paper you can see some tiny fibre lines whereas with chalky you dont see the paper fibre. Important to indicate NOT TO DO EXTENDED SWEATBOX on chalky stamps (dont leave for more than an hour because the more soaked the stamp gets the easier the ink comes off - I lost a handful of stuck together stamps without even realising why the damed stamp ink was rubbing off.)
