  • #PostalPleasures Presents: British Guiana Stamps Ep1 - From Goodwill Haul Bag 4 - Will I find A #PennyMagenta
Please join me while I explore another small bag of stamps, This time #BritishGuiana, from within bag 4 of my collectable postage stamp haul from a Goodwill store.
There are some fun stamp finds in this lot. I found a nice set of #UPU or Universal Postal Union stamps. I learn a little about "Greenheart" wood which is harvested in Guiana and Suriname.
I noticed replacement over time of the word #Indian with #Amerindian. The latter was a word I was not familiar with which surprised me as I am part Penobscot Indian.
Of philatelic interest, we find some visible examples of watermarks, some stamps which were likely used for revenue use with signature and date cancels, and one stamp with both a circular date stamp (CDS) and a punch cancel. Punch cancels are often indicate telegraph use.
I love to hear from you, please tell me your favorite stamp from the lot and let me know if there are any topics you would like me to cover in the future. Thanks for watching!

I'm learning a lot about worldwide stamps through these show-and-tell-style videos. Thanks! (And may I just say again -- great Goodwill find!)

The 4 UPU issues are an omnibus set so you will find many British Colonies withn these stamps

Yes, I have only recently learned the term omnibus in this context. The Scott catalogs use the term "Common Design Types"

A really great selection of stamps! GPO stands for General Post Office: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Post_Office?wprov=sfti1

Love these stamps! About the men and colors, that is my one downfall with stamp collecting, I'm mostly colorblind. I don't see to many colors, but my grandpa will always describe them so I can enjoy them to their fullest. I love to collect modern stamps, in that it is even worse because most of them are colorful.

Its great you still enjoy stamps and have time with your grandpa! I was surprised to find when learning about color blindness in biology class there was one combo of colors where I couldn't read the number on the flash card. so I am a little bit color blind as well. I like to think of colorblindness as just seeing the world differently than others.

When people ask me how I see colors, I say darker and less vibrant. The best way I can explain it is look at neon pink, that is dark red for me. Orange on green is the my worst. I can see maybe one on the colorblind test if I'm lucky. My Grandpa is the one who got me into stamp and coin collecting. It's still fun though as I get to spend time with him, and collect!
