Hello mate, what brand of pants you have on, cool pockets
That looks like particle board flooring under that tub/shower pan. I'm in the process of removing 55 sheets of particle board from the flooring in my house and replacing it with OSB. The moisture areas will get moisture resistant plywood.
HI There For uneven floor ,what is the most correct ,self leveller first and install ditra after wards ,or installation ditra first and self leveller after wards Thank you
I always wondered how plumbuses are made
Amazing how he managed to do all of this without an excessive amount of glue. Somehow my plumbers have never figured that out and I end up having to cut out wool assemblies anytime I need to change something
My Grandma's bathroom sink is clogged.
That’s what she said 😂
You can buy a whole new valve the same brand for $10, and that will be a quarter turn valve which is better.
THATS ALOT GUYS!
I've heard others say this as well, I've had a terrible time getting the mud to bond to the underside of the ditra. I ended up having to back butter the ditra to get a 100 bond. I first did everything by the directions and the first time I had near zero percent bond, it just pushed the thinset down into the shape of the individual cells of the membrane (ditra heat) I put the thinset down quick, and I put the maximum amount of water in the mix (according to the back). Not sure if the extra work is worth it vs how we did it for decades before.
That shouldn’t be the case, I highly recommend watching this video for more details on how to properly install DITRA czcams.com/video/VQbEcXBnMoU/video.html
Do you have an opinion on tiling the ceiling of a shower? If so, should the same backer be used as the rest of the shower? (cement board/kerdi/etc.) Thanks!
So you didn’t back butter the tile? Why??
I use a grinder for almost everything once I got use to it
Vera nice
Thanks, man! Great video it was super helpful.
Most garbage pick up requires it to only be a certain length. Also, use string, its MUCH cheaper
I guess my question is why is there any copper? Can’t you just run all your pex to a manifold? And then your source line to the manifold?
Not supposed be level
Yes, it’s suppose to be level if you’re using a prefab shower pan like I did in this shower
Did you scrap the old grout out at all beforehand? We have sandy type/standard grout. I want to epoxy grout over it without removing it if I can. It’s not flush with the tile, it’s still recessed so there’s room for epoxy I think to just go right on top?
I did remove the old grout by 1/8” but you have to be careful not to pierce the waterproofing
0:25 😐
I have a rigid reamer!
Wow great video 10 years on
Question: if I have a wood subfloor that is slightly out of level, should I put down a self leveling solution before adding thin-set for the Ditra??
Pex through the floor. Really. It kinda irritates me that people think this is plumbing. It's what a hole owner might do with out training. Pex is a failed system . I've only been plumbing since 1985
Bro if you’ve been plumbing since 85 you would have gotten over this a LONG time ago. It’s literally industry standard nowadays
And a failed system? It’s literally the best thing that’s ever happens to plumbing. Worked as a residential plumber for 2 years. Everyone says it’s amazing.
As a homeowner, between Pex and Sharkbites I no longer hate plumbing.😊
Very informative, thanks for doing this! My sink doesn’t come until next week but wanted to start my research. This video is really all I need! 👏🏻🙏🏻
Doing this myself! Great help!!!
What happened to the other guy?
Luv the old knob and tube wiring
ADA shower bench standard height is between 17" and 19". Depth is minimum 15".
What is the ideal thickness of the subfloor for tiling (13x13), with Ditra? My 5x5 bath was 1/2" + 5/8" but the cast iron flange was just below that! Add Ditra and tile, and I'm 1/2" above the flange.
The minimum Schluter recommends over 16” oc joists is 5/8” plywood or OSB. If you need to raise the flange you can do that with a few options
Belt and suspenders by adding a coat of Hydro Ban over the kerdi for no bleed through in 5 years.
Great video! Where can I get that super cub tee shirt?
You should try Tomecanic cutters
Assembling delta shower valve
Why do older light fixtures have the light bulbs laying sideways like that. I’ve always wondered.
Personally, I'd go with Pex-A with the expansion fitting versus what you're using which is a Pex-B with a crimp fitting. For larger jobs you'll need a more expensive power tool for the expansion fitting. But a manual will do for a room or two at a time. With pex-b there are too many parts and procedures to watch. Plus, pex-A gives you a higher water flow because the internal diameter isn't narrowed by the adapters. Such is the case with pex-b.
Bravo, nice attention to detail for us newbs who only intend to do this once and never again, lol.
I unclogged my sink by watching this video! Helped so much . I didn’t need no man’s help .. well the video I did need a man to help but I did I the work myself lol
Why do we need ditra? i mean i did a schluter tiled.. curbed shower, but regular water resist vinyl flooring planks on the bathroom floor..
DITRA is mostly used for ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone floors. It uncouples the tile floor from the substrate and prevents tile/grout from cracking. Thus, it's not necessary for vinyl. That said, I'm not a big fan of vinyl because water can get get between the seams and trapped underneath. This trapping of water can ultimately cause water damage to the subfloor. If you installed it over concrete, then it's less of an issue. But I like tile more than vinyl because it's hygienic and imo more aesthetically appealing. It's just a personal preference.
@@HomeRepairTutor I chose the vinyl over tile ultimately because it was thinner. Too much of a tripstep up from the hallway. I like floor transitions as flush as possible
I just tiled a small laundry room floor and didn’t wet down concrete. Then I see this video the very next day. Ugghhh
You might be fine. It's just an installation principle to follow to reduce the odds of installation failure.
Nice work ! But a 90 on its side is not building code in Pittsburgh.
This wasn’t in Pittsburgh, but which 90 are you referring to?
Well done.
Thank you 🙏🏼 hopefully the tips are helpful
Thank you for this video, very informative
