    Thanks for the video. My toilet valve was running but then I could not shut off the water to the toilet because the shut off valve was now bad. I thought I would have to replace the whole valve which was a soldered valve but replacing the valve stem was A LOT easier in an especially tight space.
    The old Brass Craft brass valve stem looks in good condition, just bad 30+ year gaskets I think. I'm going to size the gaskets and clean the valve stem up and re-use it. The new plastic stuff doesn't give me a lot of confidence. All told, under 40 minutes to replace the valve stem, toilet valve and clean up. Appreciate the clear instructions!

    On the full turn Valves , I open them all the way and then close it a half turn. That often prevents them from freezing open. I have some valves that are almost 50 years old and they still operate. The new ball valves are the way to go though when replacement is needed.

      I am so grateful for your video. I recently sprung a leak in the supply line hot water side. I temporarily taped it and it has stayed in place but now the faucet when turned open with the valve shut off still trickles water. Does this indicate to you a faulty valve or simply a gasket? I am not knowledgeable about back pressure but I can't help but to think taping the pinhole did something to maybe have pressure build up. Please help!

I did not replace the entire valve with the new valve, because the old valves are sweat soldered in place and I don't have those skills. I was not able to see the part number clearly on the packaging. Could you be so kind as to provide the part number of the repair kit please? Thank you.

      It doesnt. It is just a bubble mixture meant for air/gas/oxygen systems. From Oatys website "The Oatey 8 oz. All-Purpose Leak Detector is designed to form large bubbles to indicate even the smallest leaks in many types of piping applications. It detects leaks quickly on all types of tubing, valves, cylinders, pressure tanks or other systems under air, gas or oxygen pressure. Oatey products have earned the trust of plumbing professionals for over 100 years."

Due to the configuration, there's no way to soak the fittings with vinegar or LimeAway. Any suggestions on how to dissolve the heavy limescale deposits so that I can loosen the fittings?

  • @jimmckinney100
    @jimmckinney100 Před 4 měsíci

    My kitchen sink shutoff valves do not have nut tightened supply lines to the sink, but rather seem to be fully integrated valves with no way to remove and change out or replace the faucet feedlines. I guess they are old, they are solrt of quilted looking and not braided. I can find no tutorials on these things. My house was built in 1990, not so old, but I guess the builder used ultra cheap valves.. I want to put in a new faucet. Do the old valves have to be cut off and replaced with new? Do I need a plumber? There is veery little copper pipe between the valves and the wall.

      Give it another 1/4 turn. Initially tighten the compression nut 1/2 turn past finger tight. If it leaks keep turning a 1/4 turn at a time to a maximum of 4X until the leak stops .

    Nota single plumber who visited our home was able to explain why we had a momentary back pressure that violently shot water from the back of a bathroom wall and leaked some water that caused a small leak on the ceiling on the lower floor. What happened was we shut all the valves in the house, but not the main water line for 2 month, meanwhile, we had a friend water our lawn 2 times a week. Would you know what might have cause that leak? The plumber was not able to locate the leak, now what?

    • @c.m.bigler
      @c.m.bigler Před rokem

      You had some sort of backflow issue. In my experience it is due to a faulty valve from a tub faucet w/ a shower head. I won't pretend to know the exact science occurring within the pipes & valves, but I have seen this before. If that water main isn't off there's still full pressure that will flow wherever it can. Anytime you shut off locally only (only shut water off to the fixture you are repairing/swapping) keep in mind that when you go to initiate removal of a line...there's a chance of this happening. So know the location of that main shutoff and make certain there is a clear path to it just in case.

      It will probably also involve shutting off the water from the street. Depending on where you live, that may require your water company to do that. Even if it doesn’t, find the location of the street shutoff valve on your property to save your plumber time searching for it.👍

      The water in this video has been turned off at the main valve for the house. If you don’t do that, the water would be flowing out of this pipe under the sink.
      Find the main valve for your house, turn it off, turn the sink handle open to drain the last bit of water, and then follow the instructions in this video.

If you have to use braided water supply lines easy to install or most new faucets have them built in. it…with all the time you waisted you could of worked on something else. Why would you use a plastic valve. Just use some Dawn or dish soup TO TEST A GAS VALVE.
