Excellent video. My husband and I did 2 bathrooms over that had the old plaster mesh and slats. I initiated it 🤪 what a process.
I'm a new sub. So glad you're channel was recommended because I'll be doing reno on my place mid this year, so these videos will come in handy as I've never done anything like this before. Thank you for these videos🙏
Thank you, and let me know if you have any questions during your demo!!
@@HomeRepairTutor absolutely! Thank you🙏
Great demo and explanation I was a young boy when my dad was redoing our home back in ‘64. The house was built in 1908. Lot of work
Thank you, these old homes are typically solid in terms of the framing but always need TLC
Luv the old knob and tube wiring
Still have some in my old house.... need to upgrade
Wish you linked the gloves and mask. I need a new pair and willing to try your recommendations
Thank you. You channel is very helpful ❤
Do you have a discord
Hello home repair tutor.
I have a pebble dash wall. An the upstairs has water coming through wall.
It is a bedroom but years ago was q bathroom. Iv ow has the soil pipe from outside removed an patched up from outside . Finally the walls inside became dry.. I think I had thin render around the pipe fitting.
Anyway now I painted the inside of the room an the paint is not drying. It is wet in the place that use to be damp.
Any ideas what's going on or how I could dry the paint
Thanks so much for the video this is excellent! My home was built in 1910 and I worry about doing a few rooms due to lead paint. Is this something you had to worry about for this video?
Wow I’ve seen some jacked up wiring but that takes the cake.
Ya, it was messed up, not sure what they were thinking - if anything - about safety
I got a question about drywall compound. How to prevent from bubbling up? I use pre-mixed compound.
Could there be issues with asbestos?
What should also be mentioned is that a lot of the times plaster has asbestos in it. I've renovated 4 homes with lath/plaster and the plaster came back positive for chrysolite asbestos 3 out of 4 times.
N95 for sure
@@priceandprideNoooooo! It has to be remediated by someone wearing a full tyvek suit, hood and respirator. Asbestos is incredibly dangerous.
How is it removed safely?

Lots of precautions should be taken. Proper masks and suits, the room is usually sealed off under negative pressure, and the waste gets bagged and taken to EPA approved sites. Something to definitely test for before doing a project like the video here for sure.
What year/era homes were these?
Great information
Glad you liked it
Would love to see a work setup video. Work truck, trailer etc.
When I demo'd my shower I was surprised to find it was plaster & lath. I could do 20 full power swings with a hammer and only make a tiny hole. It was a bit thicker than yours in the video. After demo'ing about 4 square feet by hand I gave up and bought a medium sized hammer drill from the big box store. Saved me an enormous amount of time and probably my elbows and wrists too. With the point chisel attachment it hammer drilled through the plaster like butter. Then I just pulled it off in sections. I dealt with the wire mesh with my sawzall after I made a line of holes with the hammer drill.
Whew, that was a lot of work. Demoing these older homes makes you respect how they were built!! And with no power tools
I wanted to see how u end cleaning the dust part broom or vacuum.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 that’s all I have to say just clap!
Sounds like perfect enunciation to my southern ears.
🙏🏼🙏🏼😊😊
Oh U are the MAN ! 💕
Thank you :)
Quick question about your 240 step-by-step tutorial. Is this all video and goes into more detail? thanks!!
Yes, all the videos inside my Platinum Membership are full tutorials and go into much more detail. I add several new videos per week for members and plan on expanding the video selection quite a bit. It’s approaching 260 tutorials and will easily be over 300 very shortly
I have learned so much from this channel!! How about a video on removing those old-fashioned hideous pink, blue or green (usually bordered with black) tiles from a bathroom wall & doing a more modern painted wall? Thanks!!
Thank you and yes, hopefully soon!!
That old knob a tube wiring… can really get an idea of how old the house is
Should you test for lead in an old wall like that?
The plaster isn't a problem for lead, or old wall paper, but if there there are layers of pre 1960's paint...yes!
help me in seattle
The old tile wainscoting with floated mud walls are a bioch worse than tearing that plaster wall!
I like your chicken coop.
Lol thank you
Absolutely do not use a circular trash can. You will miss the can with the majority of the falling plaster. Get a trash can, new if necessary, that has flat sides that can abut the wall more completely. This is a massively messy job, and any attempt to contain the mess will pay off. Remember, these walls will probably also have lead paint in them, that will get mixed in with the plaster dust during demolition. A temporary "zip wall" to contain the mess to one portion of the room is also a worthwhile investment. At least a few plastic drop cloths taped to the ceiling, if zip wall isn't in your budget.
Holy Christ man, that electrical gave me serious Daymares. Sheeesh.
Same here, fortunately it’s to code now
Ugh. This video is informative but has me bummed now. I just want to remove a small wall on one side of a closet door entrance and it's plaster 😬
So is this the last video?
Are they still in business?
6 months old, nothing new
Yes, this Sunday there will be a long form video. I publish new short videos every week and have added over 70 long form videos for our Platinum Members since the beginning of this year over on homerepairtutor.com - that accounts for close to 1000 minutes and counting 😊
@@HomeRepairTutor I've been on that website a few times. Glad you are still in business.
@@Kenwood.. thank you, yes, very much alive and in business
U just threw copper wire away ! No no no 😊
The electric in that room was done by an unlicensed electrician it looks like to me
Holy cow you talk slow even on speed 1.5. but great vids
Haha, thank you 😊
“How to remove a plaster wall”. Don’t. Under any circumstances unless you absolutely have to because of some damage. That plaster wall is better in every way than a drywall wall.
It’s not better if the soil stack behind it is leaking and the electrical is potentially going to burn down the house, both of which are the bigger problem here
@@HomeRepairTutor “unless you have to because of some damage”. Now where did I read that?
