Our cops have balls of steel. I was in the security industry for 15 years and had people pull knives on me 3 times and the only injury I got was a cut across the back of my hand. I snapped a guys elbow when he tried to stab me in the neck. If someone pulls a knife on me the usual rules of minimum force go out the window. That's how it is here, the police go in almost unarmed compared to police in the USA, which is why it seems odd to us that police there will shoot people dead who are not much of a threat, our police take on armed criminals hand to hand, and to be fair so do the public, they have been out there fighting terrorists armed with AKs and suicide vests with their bare hands more than once.

In 2022 118 US OFFICERS were killed in a year in UK 3 officers were killed over the past several year by criminals.

Pen Y Fan is in south Cymru. I've done the exact same route they do...I can tell you that it's a killer and that's just walking it. Add on the weight that they carry and do that at a fast pace...Yeah; it was the hottest day of the year and they didn't consume enough water, but it's no surprise that people died doing that course...it's a beast

Sentencing laws in the UK are an absolute joke. As far as knives and swords are concerned, anyone over 18 can buy them legally. What you can’t do is carry them in public.

When I was younger, I considered becoming Police. Looking at the situation in this broken country now, I'm glad I didn't. (I did spend time working for a US Dept though as a Corrections Officer, but that just reminded me of how much I don't want to be a cop)

Not going to lie, the commentary really bugged me. It was hard to listen to and I've genuinely never had the ick listening to someone speak as bad as this before...

The nature of UK roads are different from much of the US I would say. They tend towards smaller and tighter roads which lends itself to boxing in the car, slowing it and then stopping it at slower speeds. The UK police also will operate more in groups or at least two officers. This lends itself to being able to use different tactics as well as not having to worry about firearms as much. So is a combination of factors involved which makes some tactics and procedures able to be used in preference of others.

I was on tour with a band when that bridge went down and had traveled under it about 20 minutes before it happened. We knew nothing about it until we checked into the hotel and it was on a TV in the lobby..it really was a miracle nobody was injured!

The funny side of this is how quickly tourists change their behaviour when the Police Officer armed with an Assault Rifle and Semi-auto Pistol chastises them for their behaviour, and in some cases revokes their right to be there (entire tour groups have been ordered to leave the area because of one person).
