My condolences to families who lost their babies.

    This has shocked the whole UK.
    This took place in the ancient city of Chester, in north-west England. By old tradition, the eldest son of the Monarch is not only Prince of Wales, but also Earl of Chester. His wife is therefore Princess of Wales and Countess (wife of an Earl) of Chester, and this hospital has been called after a Countess of Chester. Chester is the county town of Cheshire (pronounced cheshuh).
    The terrifying thing about Lucy Letby is how normal she seemed to be. She may well have killed - or attempted to kill - many more.
    Way back (1980s?) the Conservative Government wanted to reduce the power of the top medics in hospitals, and therefore brought in powerful managements. They also introduced systems whereby hospitals were competing for funds.
    The result has been rather too many cases where these managements have been seeming to bother more about hospital reputation than patient safety. In thus case it was not only the parents who had questions but also the paediatricians, who were alarmed that statistically there were far more babies dying than there should be.
    The Government announced an enquiry, but there was an outcry that it didn't have enough powers ( notably to compel witnesses to testify). This has forced the Government to give the enquiry more powers.

    She should have been stopped sooner. In fact several doctors on the unit suspected her actions and brought it to the attention of managers. The managers would hear nothing of it, defended her and made the doctors apologise to her - and so she carried on. As far as I'm concerned she should burn in the hottest part of hell for all eternity.

      She's not really an angel of death though, just a c*nt. Angels of death or mercy believe they're doing the right thing, usually regarding disabled babies or old people suffering with illnesses. They think they're doing a kindness and it's most often an overdose of morphine, painless and peaceful. She tortured those babies, they were in agony during their final moments. She's just your regular scum of the earth.
      Obviously I'm not condoning the former but if I had a choice between slipping away on an overdose of morphine vs air injected into my veins or force fed I know what I'd choose!

    The police investigated each baby separately with a separate detective for each so that they could get an independent case for each. The cases that they brought were those with the best evidence and there were still two cases where the jury could not reach a verdict. They are still investigating other deaths and other families have come forward to state that they believe that there were similar attempts on their babies who survived the crisis. At least one of the children who survived and for whom Letby was found guilty of attempted murder will require 24 hour care for the rest of their life due to the damage made by the attempt to kill.😊😊
    There have been other serial killer nurses back to Mary Ann Cotton in rhe 19th century - Beverley Allitt, Ben Geen, Colin Norris, Victorino Chua. Letby seems to be the most prolific and, along with Allitt, attacked neonates.
    She is only the fourth woman to be given a whole life sentence since it became available - Myra Hindley of the Moors Murderers (since died), Rose West of Cromwell Street, Gloucester infamy, and Joanne Dennehy were the others. She will lead a miserable life until she dies, always looking over her shoulder, and despised by other murderers.

    Also to say that we are usually better in UK hospitals that US because we are less litigious here. As someone who worked in the NHS if we make a mistake we are told to apologise and explain what we did. In America they are told to never apologise because it admits liability, but for most things people are just wanting to hear that you’re sorry and will try to do better. Most people here don’t want to sue. A hospital messed up in not seeing my newborn had whooping cough despite 5 hospital visits where they told me I was paranoid and couldn’t cope (actually it was on the notes when I requested them). He was left with health problems with his breathing until he was around 8 and outgrew it. All I wanted was them to say sorry but instead their enquiry outcome was “we’re sorry but ….” and that’s not an apology. In America I would have been suing for the cost of all his hospital admissions after that but we aren’t overly litigious here and I didn’t do anything other than an official complaint. He’s 18 now and I think looking back I should have taken it further because of the long term consequences but I was 23 and proud of our NHS system on the whole (as I am now) and didn’t want to take more money out of it. In reality my son deserved that for his suffering.

These people know they are going to get a long time in prison so an extra two years for not attending isn't going to make much difference

  • @Outnumberedbykidsandcats
    @Outnumberedbykidsandcats Před 9 měsíci

    Yes our judges and the others wear wigs and robes. Also there are never usually cameras in our courts hence the drawings. Also having worked as a midwife premature babies do die - it’s tragic but it’s not the same as with full term babies so your comment after 2 they should be looking into it isn’t going to ever happen. Also, there was an undercover investigation here into another hospital that recorded a doctor as saying if you kill a baby it’s cheap but if you injure it for life it’s expensive. The rules on suing here aren’t like in America. My friends 10 month old died due to a hospital error and they settled for £35,000.

    Death penalties are definitely not something I would abide. Not due to sympathy for the criminal, actually the opposite.
    As someone without belief of an afterlife, once they are dead -no more suffering. Even if you do believe in heaven/hell they would go to hell eventually anyway (apparently) so why not extend their suffering in that case? It doesn't make sense to me.
    It is very barbaric and irreversible decision, I believe we are advanced enough to understand that 'an eye for an eye' rarely leads to genuine justice. There is also the very real possibility of killing innocents.
    I don't know how a society can condemn murder under any circumstances and then commit it themselves as punishment. It's incredibly hypocritical.
    Surely you are just reinforcing that there ARE good enough reasons to kill? I understand it is a stronger deterrent, but from what I've seen most people who commit murder either lose control or believe they wont be caught. Deterrents don't really work in those circumstances.

    • @nickyjones88
      @nickyjones88 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I have just literally said, word for word, what you have, to my partner. If you don't believe in an afterlife then there's no suffering and if you do, why not make them suffer for 40 or 50 years first here on earth. I sometimes have a knee jerk reaction of 'string em up' but I don't actually support the death penalty. Too many innocent people have been wrongly imprisoned or executed and the police and justice system are too open to corruption and fallibility. These people need to be reminded every day what they did and I'm not opposed to a little prison justice either 😏

      For someone willing to do such horrific crimes, death is probably their preferred outcome once caught. You see it plenty of times in the US where a criminal will commit an awful crime and then kill themselves so they don't have to face the consequences. I prefer the fact that they're forced to live out the next few decades stuck in a cell, being bullied and made to watch the rest of the world continuing on and enjoying life outside. She will die eventually, but she may as well sit in a box for the next 40-50 years and think about what she did first.
