I bought this movie based on this review. I loved it! It went in a direction that I was not expecting going into it.

When I clicked on this video I was so convinced saw 3 was still the best one after watching saw X, however you twisted my arm and now I don’t even know what to think 😂

Can't blame you on this one. The hype was really huge, most people have been praising it really well but when I watched it, it wasn't as impactful to me as most people were saying. It had so much good potential. I was still hooked every minute... but yeah, it was okay.

That skeleton pic was horrible

they could have easily just paid to have these made, they act like they didn’t have the budget for it. i think it’s dumb they did it

everyone saying the movie wasn't very good or at least mid until the last few minutes but I loved the symbolism omg, sydney sweeny was so good in it

AI aside, I think the movie is just plain boring

Nothing much bothers me anymore, I've seen "liveleak" videos. But the two scenes in Lake Mungo did something to me that no other horror movie has. It's not scary in the traditional sense, just very very unnerving. To the point I feel a full body shiver. It's like my body is telling me there is something very dangerous about that "thing" and I need to get away. But my conscious mind is saying "It's just a body, it can't hurt you." Which only makes it more unnerving because why is a lifeless body being seen as a physical threat?.. is it truly lifeless?

I know Kathryn Newton from "Supernateral". I love her!!!

I ATE this movie UP. It was so fun and the performers were fantastic. I was along for the ride with them the whole way. They were fantastic.

..... I wasn't that crazy about the ending either.... it was just okay. I was getting a little bored between, or rather with the big fight scene between Abigail and Melissa barrera's character and Dan Stevens character. A little too long and needed to be edited down. It threw out all the dark, mysterious supernatural, elusive quality of the vampire that the filmmakers did well of putting into place earlier in the film.

... Yes I thought thAt Megan was sooooo by-the-numbers generic and utterly predictable and dull.

.... for a vampire film I think it went a little over the top with the vampires exploding into gallons and gallons and gallons of blood and internal organs. A little too overwrought and silly

Sorry but for me it was boring, loud, corny indeed. Not scary at all, not funny either. To me, Megan was much much better!

I watched The girl next door years ago and wished I wouldn't have. It was awful knowing it was based on a true story. Soul shattering stuff. Cannibal Holocaust was another that I could have done without watching. The turtle 😭 I tried with Irreversible but had to turn it off. I have enough horror in my own mind. I don't need extra.

"I'm not gonna discuss it, I'm not gonna get into it, I'm not going to describe it" so yeah.... Makes total sense you would expect people to watch a video about you refusing to describe some thing you made a video about

With all the creators who post Content about "the most disturbing movies ", it's a little disappointing to find a creator who finds movies so disturbing they won't even discuss the content of said movies are rated R and showed in the movie theater on Sundays. Make whatever continent your heart desires, but please label it accordingly

I also find it interesting that we hold CGI to a higher standard than practical effects. When practical effects looked slightly off, we just got on with it and didn’t hand wring about it. I think the shoddy CGI was totally inline with the long history of low budget horror that we’ve all come to adore over the years.

AI uses inputs to draw that Skeleton on, sure. But so does the human artist. No artist draws that Halloween illustration from scratch and without drawing inspiration from many sources. The act of creation that AI uses is no different than humans. And if a direct correlation between an AI and another piece of art can be drawn, there would be legal ramifications. It’s the same with a human artist! So the rules remain the same around plagiarism. As far as the ‘jobs’ thing is concerned, this goes back as far as the industrial revolution. Automation takes over human jobs. And humans move into other jobs. It’s the cycle of progress. The is satanic panic and Luddite level outrage stupidity IMO. Calm down and create things that computers can’t. Also, AI can’t make logos made of type. At least not faster than it would take almost anyone to create that logo out of a font. And 9/10 that font isn’t properly licensed anyway. Where’s the outrage over typography theft? I bet most people that cry out about AI also have stolen fonts on their computers.

My understanding in the production of this film the decision to use a.i. was simply to deliver a truly demonic looking image and then pay digital artists to touch it up. This was done in part to not take away work from artists but to also generate an image beyond human capability in the sense of unease. A.i. is far from perfect and over the years has been referred to as horrific in a sense, so the team decided to experiment with this concept a little bit for this film. Out of its whole run time id say less than ten seconds of a.i. imagery is not breaking artists hearts in the slightest, not when compared to the amount of actual artistry displayed in total for the film. In my opinion they did not abuse this concept at all. Just experimented.

I want to see Abigail so bad! But we always end up seeing something else. We had kids with us last week so we saw civil war. And I want to see it this week but kids will be home Friday so we are going to see something else too. Me and my oldest try to go every Friday. And I usually take the kids Tuesdays to the movies. I want them to grow up loving movies like I did.

Saw and TCM "transformed" the genre but not Halloween or Friday the 13th? So you know nothing about horror movies

The trailer and movie poster gave too much away. I would have prefered it if we found out about Abigail WITH the characters😊

I'm late but just watched it after the hype died down a little. I enjoyed it over all. I think AI has the potential to be a good thing but I think there needs to be more regulations in the way it's used. Think when photoshop was still new.

You wasted a lot of time on a topic -use of AI in film - for a low budget indie movie that uses 3 still photographs. Kind of making a big deal about nothing, and seems like something that needs to be resolved by the unions. The showrunners said that they used their own graphics team to work on those images in addition to the AI. So nobody lost a job. It wasn't that big of a deal. Also, the movie takes place in 1977, NOT 1997. Hard to take you seriously as a reviewer, if you can't get simple things right. Do better.

As far as AI…not a fan, but I don’t think this is the film to use as the start of the revolution. As far as the found footage thing, which I have seen other reviewers whine about…”it’s found footage but they didn’t do found footage right”… I prefer to judge a film on its own merits rather than to how closely it adheres to the rules of any of the myriad stupid micro-genres that people flip out over. I grew up in the 1970s and this film really nailed the look and feel of a late night talk show of the era. I find most reviewers on YT who didn’t care for the film are younger and probably didn’t get a lot of the references that those of us who were there picked up on and appreciated.

I saw this today and really enjoyed it! I didn’t watch an entire trailer (just a snippet before a YT video) and wasn’t sure if it was going to be cheesy, but ended up being so surprised! Love your review, too and super agree about the cast ❤

Loved this one. All the performances were fantastic and I loved every weird direction it took. Agreed re: Kristen Stewart as well, been a fan since her portrayal of Joan Jett. Who knew when Twilight came out that Kristen and Robert would become some great actors taking on such interesting roles?

One thing that saved this movie for me was the end. I love cosmic horror, the cgi gave me "great old one trying to cross by any means" vibes and that was just the ticket! I want more movies to not be afraid of being just movies!
