Love how you’re becoming more open to giving other movies a chance that aren’t your particular cup of tea right away. Like you said it’s nice to just sit back and enjoy a film sometime without needing to have high expectations for it.
I watched an interview Alicia said she never did ballet before and had to train for 3 months. Glad she was dedicated
As someone who doesn’t particularly care for famous monster movie horror (werewolves vampires etc) I loved this movie sm it’s my favorite of the year which I didn’t expect. It’s not that this sub genre of horror is bad it just doesn’t interest me. I expected to walk into a good movie but I had sm fun watching I really have nothing to complain about. 10/10 for me personally
The humor is not overdone, thankfully.
I just seen the movie, I didn't find it at all funny, didn't find it humorous. I wasn't frightened either, but having a child ballerina who is a vampire to me doesn't make it humorous in it self.
She mentions jokes, what jokes?
I didn't watch any trailers before I watched it, I only read beforehand that it was a horror/comedy with a vampire, that's all I knew. Didn't laugh or even chuckle once.
@@mediaplayer1594Spoiler:
one joke I could mention is when she possesses the blonde girl and is giddy about tricking the people left. She smiles and looks back in anticipation to set them up.
@@mediaplayer1594a lot of the joke set ups are subversion and irony and the dialogue is supposed to be funny. The comedy was hit or miss for me, I’m curious on any horror comedies you would recommend though
Here for Melissa Barrera, my eyes are glued to the screen every time she stars in a horror movie. 😅
Same! I hope to see her in more horror movies!
@@coltonsteck9154 She's my favorite scream queen since Mary Elizabeth Winstead
I love the use of dance elements in horror when they're used well! The way Alisha Weir used her theatre/dance background to move reminded me a bit of the Grudge, since the actress who plays Kayako is also a trained dancer.
Remember when From Dusk Till Dawn came out and most people that watched it never expected the movie switch genres at the halfway point? This movie was designed the same way and would've had the same effect on the audience if they hadn't ruined so much in the trailers and TV spots. That was my only issue with it.
just went and saw abigail last night, and i came out of it praying that you would review it in your next video because i was so curious of what you thought... you've answered my prayers!
I thought of ready or not when the vampires started exploding! Makes so much more sense haha
My husband is an "old timey" vampire fan, but not really a horror movie fan. I'm the opposite. After hubby had a really bad day the other day (he was the victim of a minor crime), I decided to take him out for a date night including this movie for a light momentary escape. This movie worked for both of us to de-stress. We both enjoyed it quite a bit for exactly what it is.
Saw Abigail last Saturday. It’s a very different vampire film. From one of their interviews, they used practical effects, filmed in a real mansion in Dublin, Ireland and no green screens. Kathryn has a dance background that helped in mimicking Alicia’s ballet dance scene.
I ATE this movie UP. It was so fun and the performers were fantastic. I was along for the ride with them the whole way. They were fantastic.
..... I wasn't that crazy about the ending either.... it was just okay. I was getting a little bored between, or rather with the big fight scene between Abigail and Melissa barrera's character and Dan Stevens character. A little too long and needed to be edited down. It threw out all the dark, mysterious supernatural, elusive quality of the vampire that the filmmakers did well of putting into place earlier in the film.
This was such a fun review. It was funny to see you poke fun at yourself a bit for thinking you wouldn’t like it and then ended up really liking it. Pushing comfort zones yay!
My dad and I saw this in theaters together and we had a fun time. Even though the theater wasn't packed there were plenty of laughs and it was a fun time! ❤ I loved the video, you are doing so amazing! Keep up the great work ❤
OMG, Angus Cloud passed away? I was disappointed he wasn't in the movie longer because he is soooooo good. He was really stellar in Euphoria! 😢
Yes of an accidental drug overdose 😢
You're the best horror film critic imo. Thank you for being awesome!
"I'm no longer watching future Scream movies, but I'm seated for anything Melissa Barrera is in." PREACH. I'm already a fan of hers but now I'm just ready to support her even for things I'm not super excited about beforehand.
YES!
I was hoping you’d review this!
I didn’t see it in your “upcoming 2024 horror movie” vid you did a while ago
so glad you enjoyed this! i loved it, i thought it was super fun. this is definitely on my list for halloween costumes for my daughter and i!
I saw this today and really enjoyed it! I didn’t watch an entire trailer (just a snippet before a YT video) and wasn’t sure if it was going to be cheesy, but ended up being so surprised! Love your review, too and super agree about the cast ❤
Unrelated but your hair is beautiful damn. U slayed that
omg really thank you!
Love your Layers of Fear mention. You should totally do a Horror Game vid ❤
Saw this last night with my friends it was so fun! Great cast and you’re right it never slowed down and it was kinda long.
Great review! This one was definitely a fun surprise. Even though the trailers gave a lot away, the movie still had a lot going for it and agree with your comment that the house/location was gorgeous! Alisha Weir is SO talented!! This movie absolutely delivered on a Dolby screen!
i'm so happy that you LOVED it! i had a blast on it also 9/10!
The kitchen reminds me of that Black Mirror episode Playtest!
You covered every point I made on my own review of this film, and I 100% agree with your takes
My husband and I saw this trailer like 5 times bc we’ve been trying to see more movies in theaters this year. We were looking forward to it but had low expectations, but it was so much fun!! We laughed out loud a lot.. especially when Kathryn Newton’s character brought out the onions instead of garlic lol
First awesome shirt! Good review and cool video Sarah!👉🙂👈
The way that I absolutely lost my shit when Matthew Goode came onto screen at the end. Vampire media icon
Love the shirt! Did you see the 45th anniversary of Dawn in the theater? We saw it at Alamo here in Virginia.
Love your shirt!
Cabin in the Woods was the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer!!
Can’t wait to watch!
A. Loved the review, cannot wait to see this one. Really hope I can get out to the theater this weekend. B. AMAZING Dawn of the Dead tee!!! C. Amen on the support for Melissa Barrera!
Thank you for the great review! I'm excited to see Abigail. Can I ask where you got your Dawn of the Dead shirt from? It's awesome!
Watched it and loved it! Radio Silence has yet to let me down. RIP Angus Cloud, this was the first and maybe only thing I'll ever see him in since I don't plan to watch Euphoria.
I always wait to watch the movie first and then come back to your videos and enjoy ❤ thank you for speaking up for 🍉 stay safe 🫂
I love vampires and Radio Silence!! Scream 6 is my favorite Scream film!! All that being said, I was so excited for this, and it did not disappoint!!! I loved every second of it!!! The characters were so well written! Melissa and Alisha were the standouts for me!!! I loved Katherine too, and I'm not sure of the actor's name, but whoever played Peter was really funny at times! This is my favorite Radio Silence film I’ve seen!!! I want a sequel sooo bad!!!! R.I.P Angus Cloud.
I went to a matinee of Civil War the day before yesterday but this Saturday evening or Sunday my daughter and I are going to see Abigail. I'm really excited! Yes this year has been killing it lately. Loved The First Omen as well.
Great video! i watched Abigail last night & enjoyed it! I agree with everything you said!
Girl, First - I love your channel! Second - can you share where you get your awesome horror t-shirts?
This has been such a fun year, so far, for horror.
LOVED abigail so much! Loved the characters & cast, loved the GORE & i loved the setting / story!
I LOVE WITH READY OR NOT. I am so excited to see this movie
I finally got the chance to see Abigail last night, I loved it! It was so fun to watch! Also, "Father" played another vampire in Discovery of Witches (very cheesy show but watchable), so when I saw him I had a nice laugh at that :D
I really loved this movie and im glad you did too, and i encourage everyone to please support this in the movies
Crazy to watch. Friday is coming 😎
I 10000% thought the same about the Cabin in the Woods reference!!
As someone who is not a traditional horror movie lover (I usually don't like them)... I loved this. All the actors are fantastic in their roles (shout out specifically to Dan Stevens, Melissa Barerra and Alisha Weir). I loved the setting, loved the plot. I'll echo a statement someone else made- I want more from this world. They established what a vampire is, but not how they originated (which would have been great if the movie was mediocre, but because I enjoyed it so much, I want to know more). I only have head canon for what Dean and Rickles were guilty of to make them end up in the mansion. And what happens now?!?!? At the end of the movie, whomever is left standing can't just walk away into the sunset without being permanently changed by what happened. They know vampires are real. How is that going to play out?
I really liked this movie. I also respect and like your review of it, Sarah. I like your channel and your reviews 😊. We may not have the same tastes, but I know that, if I am interested in something and you say it's worth watching, than it's worth watching. Keep up the great work!
I love your shirt. Dawn of the Dead is my favorite George Romero flick. Abigail seems pretty good 🧛♀️
My name is Abigail, I love vampires and horror. It feels like this movie was made specifically for me. I will absolutely be a vampire ballerina for Halloween 🧛🏼♀️🩰
I went with hubby and watched it last night. I agree it was a nice balance of action, dark comedy, and mild horror gore vibes. It was 😁 fun!
Wait so what is Melissa Berrera (sp?) advocating and why does it involve watching at home instead of theaters?
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 watched it in Cinema 🎥 it gave me Goosebumps
Would love to see you review the movie Freaky !
Kathryn newton is in paranormal activity 4 too
If you like Kathryn Newton & want to see more of her range I recommend 'Freaky'! It's a lot of fun.
dan stevens acting in this movie awakened something in me. like oh.
Went to see it last Monday I really enjoyed it and I thought it was one of the best vampire movies that I've seen in a long time from Scott.
I know Kathryn Newton from "Supernateral". I love her!!!
Felt like I did after seeing Renfield
I would love to go see the movie at the movie theater or I have to wait until it’s streamed maybe on Netflix
“Bodies bodies bodies in the pooool”
I honestly didn't know I should give this a go, but now I'm very down to watch it.
Kathryn Newton is in Freaky! I haven’t seen it since it came out but I remember liking it a lot!
And Paranormal Activity 4 & Blockers!!
Not sure if you've ever covered it already but if not could you do a video on the movie May? I was obsessed with it as a teen and it seems like no one knows it, its very weird. Its from the 2000s
yes I love May! I’ve included it in a lot of list videos before especially Halloween ones
When I was watching Abigail the explosions made me think of ready or not.... Which now makes more sense
I wanna watch it and own it. Esp its prob the last angus performance 🥺
IM SO SAT FOR THIS. I’ve been waiting for this video!!!🫧🌀🤍🫶
This is definitely a movie I want to check out.
I enjoyed Ready or Not, and the cast is AMAZING, so I'm sure I'll love it.
This movie had its moments, but all in all it wasn't very good. I know its a vampire movie so suspension of disbelief is important, however the point of horror movies is blending the unbelievable with the possible. What did it for me was the Hollywood typical girl boss main character who weighs maybe a buck 5 soaking wet, putting the Russian in an arm lock and him not just flipping her over his back. I mean I know she has him in an arm lock, but her hands are no way near big enough to grasp even his thumb tightly, nor would she have the arm strength in any universe to snap his arm even if she wanted to. Its like playing football with a child and when they go to tackle you they just end up wrapped around your leg, and you just drag them to the end zone. The end was pretty dumb too, but I won't spoil it since some people may want to see the movie. Hot take, the best character of the movie is the villain, watch the movie and you'll see what I mean.
I loved this movie, it was so good and entertaining. Some parts made me laugh too. Melissa Barrera and Kathryn Newton are so talented and beautiful. Also this movie kinda reminds me of the vampire version of Megan
I highly recommend Freaky if you want to see Kathryn Newton’s range. It’s a horror comedy that has a lot of good kills that I think make up for its lighthearted tone
Me nodding along to practically everything said, fellow vampire meh-er. Hahaha.
I could not have agreed with this more!
I just watched a new british horror film BAGHEAD and really enjoyed it plz let us know what you think I know you enjoy british horror
I agree about the comedy being a little over the top! Like Peter’s character playing “dumb” wasn’t always hitting for me. Overall, it was a fun movie but not my fave! I prefer more atmospheric horror. Love Melissa’s and Kathryn’s characters though!
I just came back from seeing this movie! I loved it!
I think it's an entertaining film. Around a 7/10. Great video.
They did show too much in the previews but it was such a fun ride!
I'll watch it if it's movie of the week at my cinema
I would say that it’s a horror comedy, a movie with comedic elements that is mostly horror I would give to Evil Dead Rise or maybe Get Out, I think everyone has a different range
Dracula's Daughter was about an adult vampire. She's a sympathetic monster.
Watching from india hyderabad❤️
I knew this one was gonna be good!
When they checked her pulse it took me out of the movie. Towards the end it felt like the vamps stayed up past dawn.
Saw it twice with two different people and they both enjoyed it! I really liked the humor and the action juxtaposition. It's true if you liked Ready or Not this is for you. Gory and bloody but has it's more heartfelt moments. The cast really does uplift this film! Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, Alisha Weir, and Melissa Barrera all knocked it outta the park. I love a good ensemble cast. The setting reminded me of the Spencer Mansion from the Resident Evil games.
I had some nitpicks with this movie but not enough to be like: "blah, hated it." Horror seems to be moving away from the slashers renaissance and more into the monster/sci-fi realm especially with releases like Alien Romulus, CUCKOO, Nosferatu, and Abigail. So far I'm really into it! Love vampires and the supernatural.
This movie has absolutely nothing to do with 1936 Dracula's Daughter, played by the magnificent Gloria Holden. Dracula's Daughter is a true classic of the genre with homoerotic undertones.
That said, Abigail is quite entertaining. Not amazing by any means, but fun in its own way.
It pays homage to 1931 Dracula by using Swan Lake music, which is the theme of the older film title sequence.
I was waiting for that final entrance since the beginning, and I was not disappointed.
Fun vampire movie, rooted for Alisha Weir's vampire ballerina all the way 💪🧛🏻♂️💯
Heck yeah it’s a great Halloween costume! My babies are all grown now with babies of their own but let me tell you…when they were home we did everything which could get expensive if we weren’t creative! Luckily, we were creative! Our son played peewee football age 5-7 (not through school) and our daughter made cheerleader for his team! We got our money’s worth on those outfits! The first year we had them, he wanted to be a vampiric football player and she was his victim I think they did that a couple of years actually! They also had the little karate outfits (gi). They had a ball and they still get along by the Grace of God!
It’s a modern take on Draculas daughter film from early 1900s. While I’m not the biggest vampire genre fan (with the exception of Buffy) I enjoyed this. Not perfect at all as the trailers spoiled too much. SPOILERS
I LOVE how Joey kept her pinky promise to protect Abby even after finding she was a vampire. I definitely wanted more. Hopefully there’s a sequel coming
I thought the movie was pretty good but don't have the desire to ever see it again. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.
It felt like a lot of different movies in one, in the best way. It gave Resident Evil game vibes too. Plus my daughter is an Abigail so I'm biased 😂
I want to see Abigail so bad! But we always end up seeing something else. We had kids with us last week so we saw civil war. And I want to see it this week but kids will be home Friday so we are going to see something else too. Me and my oldest try to go every Friday. And I usually take the kids Tuesdays to the movies. I want them to grow up loving movies like I did.
Watch freaky with Kathryn Newton, very different character with circumstantial similarities
I haven't seen Abigail, but I am excited for it. I have seen Dracula's Daughter and I can tell you it is in no way similar, not even close!
This was a really good movie and I will see it again today.
Abigail is really carzy good I love it !!!!!
I was pleasantly surprised at how much i liked it as i really dont like Vampire movies other than lost boys and fright night
